  • The purpose of the present study is to examine the effects of academic demands and resources into academic burnout and engagement among Korean highschool students, applying Job Demands-Resources Model(JD-R) into academic settings. A structural equational modeling was performed on data that collected from 934 seniors in 8 different highschool on the regular curriculum and investigated the relationships among academic demands, resources, burnout, and engagement. The results suggested that academic demands composed of effort, over-commitment, and teacher pressure had a positive effect both on academic burnout and engagement. On the other hand, academic resources consisted of rewards, peer support, teacher autonomy support, and parental academic support had a negative effect on academic burnout and a positive effect on academic engagement. The current study has its significance on applying JD-R model to academic setting and the further study as well as the limitations were suggested.

  • This study was conducted to collect basic data for establishing a revitalization plan for agricultural machinery departments in technical high schools. A status survey on satisfaction and career plan of students majoring in agricultural machinery in technical highschool was measured. The survey results showed that the selection motivation for technical high school was mainly due to the academic score obtained during middle school, and an academic major for agricultural machinery was mainly based on personal interest and aptitude. About 90% of the students answered as "normal" or "satisfied" to the questions asking satisfaction level for agricultural machinery major and education. For career plan, 68.5% of the students answered as "entrance into academic schools for higher level education" and 31.5% answered as "employment". Most preferred higher level education area was "engineering" (30.8%) and "agricultural machinery" was only 12.6%. Expecting employment area was also automobile or other industrial machinery rather than agricultural machinery.

  • In this study, we investigated the difference in the affective characteristics between science-gifted students and general students through the positive experiences about science (PES) index. We also explored ways to apply the characteristics of gifted classes suggeseted by the teachers of this study, which had a positive effect on science-gifted students, to general science classes. For this study, a PES survey was carried on middle school science-gifted students enrolled in the gifted education center in the central region and general middle school students in the same area who had no experience in gifted education. Based on the survey result, we conducted in-depth interviews with teachers, having teaching experience with both science-gifted and general students. The results revealed that science-gifted students showed a significantly higher PES index than general students in all five areas of PES. The area with the largest difference between the two groups was science-related self-concept and the smallest was science academic emotion. Teachers suggested ways to apply the characteristics of science-gifted classes to general science classes, such as organizing general science classes around inquiry activities, supporting class materials such as MBL or tablets, reconstructing the classes using materials reflecting students' needs, and changing the textbook content and narrative style, to induce students' interest and curiosity. Based on the study results, ways to enhance the PES through science classes for general students were proposed.

  • This study aims at identifying the effect of problem posing on the academic achievement in high school mathematics. As subjects of the study, two classes of first grade in high school were selected. One of them was treated with problem posing learning, the other was treated with learning-in-a-body. Each has 40 students and was also divided into two groups(high- level and low-level) according to their learning-level. Two instruments were used for this study. One was the teaching-learning method developed by the researcher. The other was TTCT(Torrance Test of Creative Thinking). The 't-test' was used for this study and the significant level of test was within 5 percent. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The group with problem posing learning showed significantly higher academic achievement(learning-ability) than the one with learning-in-a-body. 2. There was no significant difference in the academic achievement(creativity) between the two groups. But there was significant difference in the creative factors. 3. There was no significant differences in the academic achievement between high-level-groups in each group. 4. There was significant difference in the academic achievement (learning-ability) between low-level groups in each group. And there was significant difference in the creative factors. On the basis of the results above, the following conclusions could be made. The problem posing learning method was more effective in the academic achievement in highschool mathematics than learning-in-a-body. Especially low-level group was more effective than high-level group. These facts implies that it is more effective for a teacher to adopt the problem posing learning considering the students' learning-levels.

  • The authors investigated the relationship among stress, mental health and academic performance of high school students(322 males and 320 females). using stress questionaires and Korean version of SCL-90-R. The problem related to academic achievement was highest stressful. The percent of disturbed subjects was 30.68% Interpersonal sensitivity(12.4% ) in the male and depression(15.6%) in the female were prevalent mental health problems. The scores of the stress questionaire positively correlated with the SCL-90-R scores. It suggests that stress is highly related to mental health problem. However, there was no significant correlation between the academic records and SCL-90-R scores. The results were discussed with respect to adjustment problems of the high school students, and implications for prevention and educational program were suggested.

  • There has been a considerable number of studies on aggressive behaviors and violences, but it is hard to find one that gives us clear and satisfactory answers with transparent conclusions. Juvenile aggressiveness seems to be caused by unsatisfied desire in the problematic situations and emotional instability. The aim of this study is to find out how emotional instability - especially mathematics anxiety - is correlated with aggressiveness and how aggressiveness affects mathematics proficiency, and thus to help students improve their academic proficiency by finding out appropriate measures to take in case of aggressive behaviors of students. Main tasks of this study are as follows : 1. To find out any correlation between aggressiveness of the experimental students and their mathematics proficiency. 2. Is there any correlation between aggressiveness and mathematics anxiety\ulcorner 3. Is there any correlation between aggressiveness and academic proficiency\ulcorner The conclusion of this study is as follows : 1. There are some negative correlations between the degree of mathematics anxiety and mathematics proficiency. This is mainly because negative emotional state developed from one's uneasiness for fear of failure disturbs one's learning process and thus weakens the will for achieving the task. 2. While aggressiveness doesn't show any significant correlations with academic proficiency, it does have some with mathematics anxiety.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify any differences in academic records of students after they got into the Korea National College of Agriculture and Fisheries through the entrance exam. The target group was the students of 1,035 who enrolled from the year of 2012 to 2014 by the exams respectively, and this study compared those first year's records. As a result, this study found that their academic achievements have no significant differences statistically. With regard to the result, we could recognize that the average achievements of students are arithmetically high, who were accepted by admission officer's interview(talented students of agriculture and fisheries) and regular admission procedure to which the scholastic test result is applied. Accordingly, it is more desirable that we should rather focus on measures to improve the admission procedure that could contribute to academic achievements of students who are mostly accepted through the nonscheduled admission. It is pointless to focus on discussion that the achievement of students selected by a particular procedure is low. That kind of criticism proved groundless. Secondly, the study of the correlation between their admission records and after admission records of the freshmen in 2012 shows that a significant difference does not exist whereas those of in 2013 and 2014 has a slightly different statistically, though a coefficient of correlation was a mere 0.17. It account for this result that KNCAF has increased the applied-rate of highschool transcript from 33.3% to 50.0.% in admission procedure from the year of 2013. However, lowering the applied-rate of farming and fishing background is not everything as we consider the graduates' easy settling into rural area. It is a well-known fact that after graduation, the majority of students who have applied for a grace period of the delay in performing the obligation of farming and fishing, and of students who have paid the school expenses back came from ones with no sufficient foothold. This means that we should formulate a supporting policy for the students to settle into rural area smoothly after graduation if we keep the regulation of lowing the applied-rate of farming and fishing.

  • In this paper, we studied the consciousness of Fisheries high school students Through these kinds of works, this paper will focus on how to activate the Fisheries high school in Kyungbuk province. Primarily, research of the consciousness of people living in the fisheries community of the Kyungbuk coast has been engaged in fisheries. Secondly, research is done the consciousness of Fisheries high school students. Thirdly, research of consciousness of neighboring middle school teachers. Finally, searching for reform measures toward activating Fisheries high schools in the whole country. The conclusions of the study were as follows: First, the proper view of fisheries should be settled again. The understandings of basic knowledge about maritime affairs and fisheries in the stages of elementary schools and middle schools are needed. Secondly, in order to find a way out of the difficulties in fishering villages, governmental financial support has to be presente. from the view of fisher folks who are engaged in the fisheries. Thirdly, larger portions of economic value should be allocated to fisheries villages by improving fisheries structure of the fishery. Actually, lower incomes have burdened fisheries villagers with more debts. Fourthly, academic and care counseling must concentrate on the diversification of courses after graduation from fisheries high schools. Realistically, students of fisheries high schools are longing to enter into universities. Fifthly, reorganization of specialized highschool systems, changes of titles of schools and reconstruction of departments should be steadily carried out. Finally, high morale of fisheries highschool teachers should be revised using various steps. They didn't appear to be proud of their teaching jobs. Supervisors ought to exchange their opinions with teachers for the purpose of development of fisheries high schools.
