Careers of those who have studied in library and information science could be developed in all these fields. High flexibility and labour turnover can be expected due to the wide range of career fields. Nevertheless, there have been very little studies reflecting the reasons of high level of turnovers and flexibility in librarian workforce. • We all know that we can not keep a proper social life without language. Yet language is so much a part of our environment that we hardly realize it is there. The purpose of this study is to provide an understanding of the linguistical aspect of communication process in order to carry out a successful human relations in the operation of libraries. Human development rests upon man's capacity to digest large quantities of knowledge and it is language which allows facts to be communicated, stored, and disseminated. • Building a new library and remodeling an existing library for the multi-cultural space is a recent trend of the university libraries. That is, the spaces for using the digital and multimedia equipments, the rooms for reading and studying, the spaces for the cultural activities such as watching movies and holding an exhibition, and the spaces for the communication and refreshment are increasing in the libraries. However, this movement of securing and providing the new spaces is not closely connected with the off-line services and happens without the consideration of how to change the librarian's role and position. Therefore, the university libraries need to plan and provide the multi-learning space rather than the multi-cultural space considering the university library is an academic organization. Additionally, understanding the purpose of the university libraries, user's need, utilization method of books and considering the librarian's roles and placement are necessary in planning and providing the space of the libraries.

  • This study purposed to discover whether or not academic libraries reflect these changing roles. We selected K University as the research target and surveyed user satisfaction of materials, staff services, facilities, electronic devices, media, and so on. The research findings are as follows: 1) the frequency of library visits of University K was on the high side, 2) the primary purpose of using the academic library was associated with learning or reading, therefore, the most used library spaces were related to that, 3) the most used library materials were 'general books', the most unused were 'reference books', 4) the most preferred way to obtain needed materials when failing to find wanted materials was 'Contact librarian'. A similar phenomenon occurred in terms of facility use, 5) university K's users were usually satisfied with the loan policy, 6) the rate of users who don't know whether there is user education was very high, the rate of users who have no experience with user education was extremely low. These research findings can be referenced by library management to improve libraries' service quality and take advantage of complex spatial configurations.
