  • This study investigated the academic achievement of science and high school students according to the characteristics of R&E activities in mathematics and science. In addition, based on the survey results, the correlation between R&E activity characteristics and mathematics and science academic achievement was studied through correlation analysis and factor analysis between subjects. There was a difference in academic achievement in mathematics and science according to the characteristics of the R&E activity area, and the experience of R&E activity was found to be closely related to the academic achievement of related subjects. Depending on the area of R&E activity, mathematical and scientific academic achievement was found to be two factors: mathematical logic and natural understanding. Natural understanding factors significantly influenced students' academic achievement in mathematics, physics, and life sciences, and mathematical logic factors significantly influenced the academic achievement of students in chemistry and earth science subjects. In particular, mathematical logic ability was concentrated in excellent physics class students, and natural understanding ability was concentrated in excellent life science class students. Since the characteristics of the R & E activity area greatly influence the academic achievement of mathematics and science, it will significantly contribute to the selection and operation of the R & E activity area of science high school students.

  • The purpose of the present study is to examine the prediction of academic self-efficacy, learning flow, academic stress, and emotional exhaustion on course satisfaction of cyber university students. The total of 536 students registered in a meditation course at W cyber university was participated in the web-based survey in the spring semester of 2011, and finally 331 students completed this survey. The hypothetical model proposed was composed of academic self-efficacy, learning flow, academic stress, emotional exhaustion as the predictor variables, and course satisfaction as the criterion variable. According to the results of this study through multiple regression analysis, academic self-efficacy, learning flow, academic stress, and emotional exhaustion significantly predicted on course satisfaction. Based on the results of this study, effective methods and strategies for constructing cyber educational environments that enable students to improve academic self-efficacy and learning flow as well as reducing academic stress and emotional exhaustion should be considered.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship among the self-directed learning ability, academic self-efficacy and academic achievement of elementary school students. The subjects of this study were 197 sixth graders. The results of this study were as follows. First, the correlations among self-directed learning ability, academic self-efficacy and academic achievement were significant. Second, among the variables of self-directed learning ability and academic self-efficacy, self-confidence, preference for task difficulty, self-understanding of learner and independent mind of learning were positively related to academic achievement. These results imply the need for measures to increase these variables of academic efficacy and self-directed learning ability in the field of education in order to improve students' academic achievement.

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the role of self-regulated learning and academic burnout on the relationship between regulatory focus and academic achievement. The participants of this study were 312 university students and analyses for this study was conducted by using PASW 18.0 and Amos 8.0. The major achievements were as follows; Self-regulated learning confirmed mediating variable between regulatory focus and academic burnout, and academic burnout confirmed mediating variable between self-regulated learning and academic achievement. That is, regulatory focus had some effect on academic achievement through academic burnout based on self-regulatory learning. Finally, the needs of development about the counseling and the education approaches as a special intervention was discussed, and that approaches were reflected self-regulated learning to be improved and academic burnout to be reduced. Also, limitations and implications of subsequent further study were suggested in this research.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the recognition and some solutions of academic achievement gap among academic high schools of four equalization cities' persons concerned in Gyeongsangnam-do. The persons concerned are designated to pupils, parents and teachers of secondary schooling. To accomplish the purpose of this study, the following two questions were asked: (i) How serious do they recognize academic achievement gap among academic high schools? (ii) What kind of solutions do they prefer in order to reduce or dissolve academic achievement gap among academic high schools? The survey subjects of this study were 4,192 persons. They consisted of 2,428 pupils, 1,173 parents and 591 teachers of secondary schools. The contents of the questionnaire were made of the details of the above two questions. Frequencies, percentage, $x^2$ and F test were mainly applied to the statistical analyses. The findings of this study may be summarized as follows. First, half of the subjects recognized the seriousness of academic achievement gap among academic high schools in general. Parents were higher than teachers and teachers were higher than pupils in recognizing the seriousness of this issue. Secondly, they recognized that radical change of current allocation ways, incentives to competent teachers, and financial support, administrative counseling for unpopular high schools etc. were some potent alternatives to this issue.

  • The purpose of this study in to verify the impact of gratitude disposition and academic self-efficacy on the process in which academic stress of college freshman are affected in adjustment to college. For this, research models were established based on prior studies and processes were verified through correlation analysis and structural equation analysis. Data was collected from 1785 freshman students from college in Incheon. Four measurement instruments were employed: Academic Stress Scale, Gratitude Questionnaire, Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, Students Adjustment to College Questionnaire. The results showed that academic stress showed negative effect on adjustment to college, gratitude disposition, and academic self-efficacy. The dual mediation effect by gratitude disposition and academic self-efficacy was also verified. Implications for adjustment to college and academic guidance, limitations of the study and suggestions for future researches are discussed.

  • This study sought to investigate the effect of academic satisfaction on the dropout intention of cosmetology undergraduates. Analyzing the effect of academic satisfaction on career dropouts showed that the sub-factors of academic satisfaction-evaluation satisfaction, class satisfaction had a statistically significant part effect. Analyzing the effect of academic satisfaction on psychological factors for dropping out showed that the sub-factors of academic satisfaction have a statistically significant effect. Furthermore, regarding the effect of academic satisfaction on environmental factors, the sub-factors of academic satisfaction have a statistically significant effect on wealth. High satisfaction was shown to have no statistically significant effect on dropout intention. The results of the study showed that the higher the degree of satisfaction with the evaluation and the degree of satisfaction with the course of beauty majors, the more negative (-) the impact on dropout. For cosmetology majors, academic satisfaction is a subjective emotion felt through study at university and major. Students with high academic satisfaction are more likely to love their school and their work, and positively influence their intention to stay in school and reduce student dropout rates. Intention to drop out indicates the intention to lose interest and purpose in cosmetology college students. This is directly linked to the dropout rate of school students and requires steady research. Through this research, we hope that active discussions will be held on academic satisfaction and intention to drop out of university students specializing in cosmetology.

  • To explore effects on each friendship, family, romance, and community in sub-variables of loneliness on academic achievement in science for Y-middle school students, multiple regression analysis is carried out by stepwise method. As the results, I found the following facts. Academic achievement in science for the students was expressed by the following equation. Academic Achievement=48.765+4.012${\times}$[Family](t=2.082, p=.039)-3.957${\times}$[Romance](t=-3.147, p=.002)+5.281${\times}$[Community](t=2.965, p=.003). And each variable value of the explanatory power affecting academic achievement in science for the students is presented in order of community (12.0%), family (6.6%), and romance (6.3%). But the friendship variable is not significant in affecting academic achievement in science.

  • This study examined the mediating roles of parent and peer attachment in the relationship between academic stress and suicidal impulse among Korean adolescents. The 2959 ninth grade students in this study were selected from among 3211 students(excluding missing cases) who participated in the Korean Youth Panel Study. Following Baron & Kenny's(1986) suggestion, the mediator model was employed to analyze parent and peer attachment. Results showed that academic stress had a significant relationship with adolescent's suicidal impulse. Parent attachment acted as a partial mediator between academic stress and suicidal impulse; that is parent attachment provided a protective mechanism minimizing the direct effects of academic stress. However, peer attachment had no significant relationship with academic stress.
