Recently, university education is changing from content- centered to learner - centered education not to deliver knowledge unilaterally but to help student to cultivate their skills to discover and apply knowledge for themselves. It means that students' cognitive or emotional development is being emphasized. Also, because of universities' quantitative expansion, more strict evaluation on professors' research result, or conversion to a departmental system in a university organization, it has become a crucial issue for undergraduates to adapt to college life successfully. Along with this trend of university education, an academic advising system is becoming one of the most important areas in it as in not only provides students with necessary academic information but also helps them adapt to college life by developing their potentials and integrating their career and life plans. Therefore this study is going to examine the status of academic advising systems in US universities, investigate how Dongguk University's Paramita college operates its academic advising system, and find out way to establish academic advising system in Korean universities.

Data mining technique was used to track student's performance during years studding in college and determine the impact of GPA_SEC on the GPA student rates according to the current academic advising method used on student's status. The study utilized a sample of 5436 individuals were drawn from two colleges in Majmaah University, KSA during 2013-2018 period. The results showed that the student's completion status in terms of graduation, dropout, Stumbling or dismissed was classified according to the average grades of admission from secondary school GPA_SEC. The results show the effect of the current academic advising that most of students gain less grades comparing with GPA_SEC in addition that the higher GPA_SEC was the higher graduation, dropout and dismissed decreased when GPA_SEC was high.. Therefore, the study recommends tracking students academically to evaluate their results of each semester to find out the causes of the deficiencies and addressing them within the departments.

We analysed the program on the basis of organizational models of advising of American colleges. Represented by University college and academic advisor, it can be categorized as a compromised system of Split and Total-Intake models.

Motivating students to study mathematics is a concern for many mathematics educators. In this paper, we present the outcome of a one semester experiment in which group-work and academic advising were used as teaching strategies in order to improve the motivational level of our students in learning mathematics. Although the students' performance did not show any statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups, qualitative and other quantitative data collected indicate that the participants in the experiment, especially weak students, have in one way or the other benefited from the teaching approaches. Details of the experiment, the findings and their educational implications are presented.

The main goal of higher education institutions is to present a high level of quality education to its students. This study uses data mining techniques to extract educational data from cumulative databases and used them to make the right decisions. This paper also aims to find the factors affecting students' academic performance in Majmaah University, KSA, during 2010 - 2017 period. The study utilized a sample of 6,158 students enrolled from two colleges, males and females. The results showed a high percentage of stumbling and dismissed between graduate and regular students where more than 62.5% failed to follow the plan. Only 2% of students scored distinction during their study of all graduated since their grade point average, secondary level, was statistically significant, where p<0.05. Dismissed percentage was higher among males. These results promoted some recommendations in which decision-makers could take them in considerations for better improvement of academic achievements: including of specialized programs to follow-up in regards to stumbling and failure. Utilization of different communication tools are needed to activate academic advisory for dismiss and dropout evaluation.

One of the most important service industries that emerged in the last decade is "Higher Education". The most of the higher education institutes involve in marketing efforts to build up a good image, to improve the level of satisfaction of students and the stakeholders, to gain competitive advantage with respect to competitors and as well as to increase their market share. Within this intense competition universities should identify and meet the expectations of students to attract more and to retain the existing students. This study is to gain more insights into the dimensions of satisfaction of the university students and factors that affecting their judgments. SSI educational experience questionnaire is used to identify the importance and performance perceptions of students' in Eastern Mediterranean University among different dimensions and also study find out the difference between importance and performance scores of eleven educational experience dimensions. Results show that "Academic Advising", "Instruction Effectiveness", "Recruitment and Financial Aid" and "Student Centeredness" was very important to students. Study also provides managerial implications as well.

This study focuses on enhancing expertise as a study advisor for mathematic teacher in field based on self-study method. By advising math study with students in school, the research was carried out 'process & content of mathematic study method advisement', 'process & content of the self-questioning by the math study adviser', and 'enhancing expertise as a math study counsellor by self-study method'. Overall process has been proceeded through preparation, experiment, result & analysis. Experiment has been done based on consultation modeling for academic high school which ran five times. During consultation, based on analysis & result, researcher has recorded 'self-questioning' report. This report is utilized for 'self-examination' for the researcher along the discussion with counselor for enhancing expertise as a study advisor. By above process, practitioner identifies each own's pros & cons as a mathematic study advisor and strengthens the skill while understanding the subject: student. by 'self-studying' method, advisor enhances its own expertise as a teacher with the achieving student and learns practical knowledge for a math study advisor.

Career and academic Counseling is often viewed as the catalyst for frequent and consistent interaction with students, but it is more than simply advising students about which majors, universities or jobs to consider. Ongoing, personal contact of career and academic counselors with students is an essential component in long-term career-related efficacy. But statistics show that high schools in non-urban or rural areas face significant issues different from those schools in metropolitan or suburban contexts, failing to maintain the significant number of teachers enough for effective career and academic counseling. This article proposes an alternative model of career and academic counseling, provided by MBA(Master of Business Administration) alumni based social enterprise in Seoul. This service explores the skills, knowledge and capabilities which MBA alumni gained from their jobs and MBA programs within the context of a career-competency framework. This paper concludes with the social and educational aspect of this shared responsibility strategy that may enhance student motivation and persistence in non-urban high schools.

Mentoring by faculty advisors is closely related to the personal and professional outcomes of doctoral students. However, few researchers have examined the characteristics of faculty mentors. To deal with this lack of research, the author attempted to explore the characteristics of faculty mentors from the perspective of Library and Information Science (LIS) doctoral students in the United States. In the study, the author combined interviews and a survey to examine the characteristics of faculty mentors. The interview and survey findings present a list of characteristics that are comprehensive and specific to LIS doctoral education. Specifically, the author describes a faculty mentor as a well-rounded person who possesses both professional and interpersonal characteristics. In addition, the findings show some aspects in which the current advising/mentoring could improve. The current study offers a guideline for the accomplishment of doctoral mentoring at a concrete level, rather than vaguely recommending that faculty advisors support the professional and psychosocial development of their students. In a following paper, the author will relate background characteristics of doctoral students to their perception of mentors.

Despite of increasing importance of management in healthcare administration and demand for the professional managers in hospitals, there have been few studies on the issues of competencies and qualifications of mid-managers for effective role performance. This article uses hospital mid-managers' judgements to discuss them in Korean hospital settings. Based on 67 questionnaires completed through the mail survey, the data were analyzed by chi-square test, t-test, ANOVA, and logistic regression. The result shows that knowledge of management skills in healthcare field is the most necessary area in general. Specifically, 'problem-solving ability' is the most important competency, followed by communication and planning capabilities. The mid-managers tend to consider the hospital employment history more important than the academic level. They also present the willingness to recruit the candidates with bachelor degrees rather than those with master or Ph.D. degrees. It is suggested that the candidate with bachelor degree and hospital employment over 6 to 10 years is the most qualified for a mid-manager in hospitals. The study results presented in the paper will provide the direction to improve the educational program and also the insights toward a advising strategy for job consultation for students majored in health service administration.
