  • The recent development of bio-conjugated magnetic nanoparticles offers many opportunities for applications in the field of biomedicine. In particular, the use of magnetic nanoparticles for biosensing has generated widespread research efforts following the progress of various magnetic field sensors. Here we demonstrate substrate-free biosensing approaches based on the Brownian rotation of ferromagnetic nanoparticles suspended in liquids. The signal transduction is through the measurement of the magnetic ac susceptibility as a function of frequency, whose peak position changes due to the modification of the hydrodynamic radius of bio-conjugated magnetic nanoparticles upon binding to target bio-molecules. The advantage of this approach includes its relative simplicity and integrity compared to methods that use substrate-based stray-field detectors.

  • Particle size distributions in 10 nm magnetite ferrofluids are analyzed based on both dc and ac magnetic measurements. Modified log-normal distributions are used for fitting the experimental results, which allows for a proper account of the narrow distributions. The calculated average particle sizes are in good agreement with the TEM results. However the ac method gives a much narrower distribution width than that of the dc magnetization curve fit. The proposed measurements combined with the analysis methods are useful for the characterization of ferrofluids being considered for biomedical applications.

  • In this paper, AC losses of long wire Bi-2223 tapes with different twist pitch of superconducting core were fabricated, measured and analyzed. These samples produced by a powder-in-tube method are multi-filamentary tape with Ag matrix. Also, it's produced by non-twist. The critical current measurement was carried out under the environment in Liquid nitrogen and in zero field by 4-prob method. And the Magnetic measurement was carried out under the environment of applied time-varying transport current by transport method. From experiment, the susceptibility measurements were conducted while cooling in a magnetic field. Flux loss measurements were conducted as a function of ramping rate, frequency and field direction. The AC flux loss increases as the twist-pitch of the tapes decreased, in agreement with the Norris Equation. Neutron-diffraction measurements have been carried out investigate the crystal structure, magnetic structures, and magnetic phase transitions in Bi-2223([Bi, Pb]:Sr:Ca:Cu:O).

  • Alternating current (AC) losses of two Bi-2223 ([Bi, Pb]: Sr: Ca: Cu: O = 2:2:2:3) tapes [(Tape I, un-twist-pitch) and the other with a twist-pitch of 10 mm (Tape II)] were measured and compared. These samples, produced by the powder-in-(Ag) tube (PIT) method, are multi-filamentary. Also, it's produced by non-twist and different twist pitch (8, 10, 13, 30, 50 and 70 mm). The critical current measurement was carried out under the environment in liquid Nitrogen and in zero-field by 4-probe method. Susceptibility measurements were conducted while cooling in a magnetic field. Flux loss measurements were conducted as a function of ramping rate, frequency and field direction. • Ac susceptibility of iron-nitride magnetic fluids with various particle number densities was measured. Therelaxation time increases rapidly as the temperature decreases or the inter-particle interaction increases. The analysis of the data suggests that the activation energy is proportional to ${(k_{B}T/J_{typ})}^{\alpha}$ with $\alpha$~-0.24 in the lower temperature range in which the thermal energy is comparable to the magnetic dipole interaction.

  • We have studied the standardization of critical temperature measurements by using an ac susceptometer. Wire forms of NbTi, $Nb_{3}Sn$, and Bi-2223 superconductors were prepared to measure the temperature dependences of the magnetization. In order to study the optimum ac magnetic field and frequency, various amplitudes from 2 Oe to 10 Oe with frequencies from 11.3 Hz to 1033 Hz were applied to three specimens. Analytical comparison of the magnetic curves with the resistive curves was accomplished to investigate validity of using the new method.

  • The magnetization pattern of the central cross section deduced from the ac susceptibility measurement is described with an analytical function. The function is based on a charge-free configuration. The thickness of the $^{\circ}$ wall lying in a (100) plane and the wall energy are calculated analytically. Total energy of the domain structure has been minimized with Ritz's method. As the result of the minimization, the energy density of the $^{\circ}$ wall lying in a (100) plane is $0.58\;erg/cm^{2}$ and the one for a (110) plane is $1.18\;erg/cm^{2}$. Thicknesses of these walls are calculated numerically. Also, the calculation indicates there is a small central domain at the cross section without applied current. With the ac susceptibility measurement the existence of the domain without current can be identified.
