Y-type barium ferrite ($Ba_2Me_2Fe_{12}O_{22};$ Me=Zn, Co, Cu) expected as an electromagnetic wave absorber were prepared by the glass-ceramic method. The glasses with composition of $0.1ZnO{\cdot}0.9(xB_2O_3{\cdot}yBaO{\cdot}(1-x-y)Fe_2O_3)$ were prepared. Single-phase powders of Y type barium ferrite were obtained with the composition $0.1ZnO{\cdot}0.9(0.2B_2O_3{\cdot}0.5BaO{\cdot}0.3Fe_2O_3)$. The shape of Y-type crystals depended strongly on the heating temperature and changed from a plate-like hexagon to a complex polyhedron with increasing heating temperature. Correlation was recognized between saturation magnetization and crystal shape. Electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics was affected by the saturation magnetization and crystal shape.

This study was conducted to determine the effects of egg phospholipids [(Phosphatidylcholine (PC) and sphingomyelin (SM)] on intestinal absorption of cholesterol and other lipids. Each rat with Iymph cannula was infused via a duodenal catheter at 3.0 mL/h for 8 h with a lipid emulsion containing triolein, cholesterol and PC in 24 mL PBS. The PC in the lipid emulsion was egg PC (EPC), hydrogenated egg PC (HPC), or soy PC (SPC). The EPC in the lipid emulsion markedly lowered the Iymphatic absorption of cholesterol, compared with SPC and a lipid emulsion containing no PC. The HPC further lowered the absorption of cholesterol. The phospholipid output was not affected by the source of PC infused. The total Iymphatic output of oleic acid (18: 1), the major fatty acid infused in the form of triolein, did not differ among the NPC, SPC and EPC groups, but was significantly lower in the HPC group. The findings provide the first evidence that EPC markedly lowers the Iymphatic absorption of cholesterol under in vivo conditions. The inhibitory effect of EPC appears to be due to the higher degree of saturation of its acyl groups relative to SPC, suggesting that the intestinal absorption of egg cholesterol may be reduced by the presence of PC in e99 yolk. Experiment 2 was designed to determine whether egg SM, structurally similar to PC, also inhibits the Iymphatic absorption of cholesterol. Egg SM lowered the Lymphatic absorption of cholesterol in a dose dependent manner. Likewise, SM lowered the Iymphatic absorption of oleic acid, whereas it had no effect on retinol absorption. SM at a high dose lowered the Iymphatic outputs of both PC and SM, whereas there was no such effect at a lower dose. These results also indicate that luminal egg SM has an inhibitory effect on the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and other lipids of relatively high hydrophobicity.
We have observed the saturated absorption spectrum of the P(16) line of the V$_1$+V$_3$ band of $^{13}$ C$_2$H$_2$ molecule by using the external cavity spectroscopy method. The frequency of laser has been stabilized to the saturated absorption spectrum. The relative contrast of the saturation spectrum is about 7 % with respect to the linear absorption and the linewidth is about 1.8 MHz. The frequency fluctuation of the stabilized LD is about $\pm$20 KHz during the sampling time 100 S.

Isopropryl 2-(1-3-dithiethane-2-ylidene)-2 [N-(4-methyl-thiazole-2-yl) carbamoyl] acetate (YH439) is currently under phase ll clinical trials by the Yuhan Research Center for use as a hepatoprotective agent. Unfortunately, the oral bioavailbility of YH439, which is sparingly soluble in water (i.e., $0.3{\;}\mu\textrm{g}/ml{\;}or{\;}0.91{$\mu}M$ at room temperature), reportedly, is negligibleregardless of the dose administered to rats in the 10-300 mg/kg range. The bioavailability of the compound increased up to 24%, when administered in the form of a micellar solution ($700{\;}\mu\textrm{g}/ml$or 2.1 mM for YH439) at a dose of 10 mg/kg, suggesting that its limited solubility is associated with its negligible bioavailability. In order to obtain additional informmation concerning the bioavailability of YH439, the mechanism(s) involved in gastrointestinal (Gl) absorption were investigated in the present study. For this purpose, the transport of YH430 across a Caco-2 cell monolayer was measured in a $Transwell^{\circledR}$. A permeability of $4.07{\times}10^{-5}{\;}cm/s$ was obtained for the absorptive (i.e., apical to basolateral direction) transport of $0.42{\mu}M$ YH439, implicating that the in vivo Cl absorption is nearly complete. The absorptive transport exhibited a slight concentration-dependency with an intrinsic clearance ($CL_{i}$) of $0.38{\mu}L/{\textrm{cm}^2}/sec$, which accounted for 28.1% of the total intrinsic clearance (i.e., $CL_i$ plus the intrinsic clearance for the linear component) of the transport. Thus, saturation of the absorption process appears to be a minor factor in limiting the bioavailability of the compound. The apparent permeability of YH439 from the basolateral to the apical direction (i.e., efflux, $6.67{\times}10^{-5}{\;}cm/s$) was comparable to that for absorptive transport, but, interestingly, a more distinct concentration-dependency was observed for this transport. However, the efflux does not appear to influence the bioavailability of the compound, as evidenced by the sufficiently high permeability in the absorption direction. Rather, a reportedly extensive first-pass hepatic metabolism appears to be a principal factor in limiting the bioavailability. In this respect, reducing the first-pass metabolism by some means would lead to a higher bioavailability of the compound. Thus, elevation of the absorption rate of YH439 becomes a necessity. From a practical point of view, increasing the concentration of YH439 in the Cl fluid appears to be a feasible way to increase the absorption rate, because the compound is primarily absorbed via a linear mechanism. In summary, the solubilization of YH439, as previously demonstrated for a micellar solution of the compound, appears to be a practical way to increase the oral bioavailability of YH439.
The colors of a tinted lens for a mixed color could be applied to a subtractive mixture's law, and the estimation of a tinted lens used the properties of optical absorptions and the color analysis. The optical absorption properties of Yellow(x)-Blue(1-x) depended on the yellow color in short wavelength below 500 nm, the absorption in the 550~650 nm wavelength regions depended on the blue color. The absorption band in the 550~650 nm wavelength regions was a peak for an ion of transition metal. The color properties of Yellow(x)-Blue(1-x) analysing by the $L^*a^*b^*$ of CIE system shifted to toward $+a^*$ decreasing x, it was formed of a pure color because of a low saturation existing in +0.6.
The oxygen saturation of blood can be measured by the difference absorption in optical spectra of Hb and Hb0$_2$, as the well known previous study. In this study we developed the non-invasive oxygen measurement device for diagnosis of peripheral vascular disease in lower extremity using infrared and red LED which produce a peak spectral emission at a wavelength of 660 nm, and 940 nm. To evaluate the clinical application of the oxygen measurement device, we performed lower extremity study to measure the oxygen changes in response to physiological changes within biological tissue. The results showed that oxygen saturation of blood in biological tissue can be monitored from the separation arrangement light source and detector.
By applying the Nakayama's theory of saturation spectroscopy to 87Rb $D_2$ lines, taking into account the optical pumping process, the relative intensities of the resonance signals were calculated for various polarization combinations of pump and probe beams. The saturated absorption spectra were observed with a linewidth-narrowed semiconductor laser. As the result, it was found that the theoretical calculations were in good agreement with the experimental observations in the case where the geomagnetic field was- shielded.

In a drop-on-demand thermal ink-jet printer, the dot size of an ink droplet expelled from a printer depends on the absorption of the paper. This causes severe differences between output images on the different paper materials. In this paper, the color matching algorithm for different papers is proposed. To achieve corresponding color reproduction, dot gain compensatio nbased on saturation was applied to predict color reproduction on a printer. If the dot gain of pigment increases, the white portion of paper decreases while the saturation value increases monotonically. As the results of dot gain compensation, intensity change may appear. Therefore, an intensity compensation without any hue variation is followed to match the colors of different subtrates.
Pulse oximetry is a well established non-invasive optical technique for monitoring the SpO$_2$ during anaesthesia, recovery and intensive care. Pulse oximeters determine the oxygen saturation level of blood by measuring the light absorption of arterial blood. The sensors consists of red and infrared light sources and photodetectors. In the measurement of the hemoglobin oxygen saturation, conventional method has required the technique of filtering of remove the noise, and of complex signal processing algorithm. So much time have required to signal processing. In this research, we separate AC signal and DC signal in the stage of signal detection. We filter the noise from each signal and convert A/D. We obtain the SpO$_2$ using the DSP algorithm.
A series of hydrophobic dodecyl-terminated 6th-generation poly(amidoamine) dendrimer (H)-encapsulated cadmium sulfide ((CdS)n@H) nanoparticles in a co-solvent (toluene: methanol = 6.8: 3.2 v/v) are synthesized. The diameters of CdS nanoparticles within the dendrimer were estimated by analyzing the positions of the first excitonic absorption peaks of CdS in UV-vis spectra. The size of the CdS nanoparticle within the dendrimer shows a saturation value as the CdS/H ratio (n) increases, which is believed to be due to the limited physical size of the void cavity within the dendrimer. This simple and convenient method of estimating the saturation of the size of CdS in dendrimers may be useful in determining the maximum void space within other dendrimers under various solvent conditions.
