In vitro studies using detached inflorescences with peduncles were conducted to investigate flower abscission agents in North American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.). Of the nine compounds studied only three, ammonium thiosulphate (ATS), abscisic acid (ABA) and ethephon induced abscission. Anilazine, benzyladenine, carbaryl, gibberellic acid, napthaleneacetic acid and thidiazuron did not induce abscission. ATS dip treatments did not induce abscission but the spray treatments induced $60.5\%$ abscission at $1500\;mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and $33.1\%$ at $3000\;mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$. Severe chlorophyll loss occurred on all inflorescences treated with ATS. Both ABA dip treatments and a $250\;{\mu}mol{\cdot}L^{-1}$ spray treatment caused abscission $(40\%)$ without adverse effects, and timing of ABA application was important. Because ABA was only significant in the dip treatments, ABA may not be a practical option for field use on ginseng. Ethephon sprays induced more abscission as the season progressed and as the concentration increased. As the dip concentrations of ethephon increased, the abscission rate decreased and the health of the inflorescences declined. The $1500\;mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ spray of ethephon gave consistent abscission results over the glowing season with little phytotoxicity. Treatment with the competitive ethylene inhibitor 1-methylcy-clopropene (1-MCP) suggested that flower abscission was due to the liberation of ethylene from the breakdown of ethephon.
Six African rice varieties, two each from three types having the characteristics of partially, irregularly, and completely developed abscission layers, were selected and grown 1) to investi-gate the histological differences during the formation and development of the abscission layers and 2) to evaluate the changes in the breaking tensile strength required to detach a grain from its pedicel dur-ing ripening period in relation with developmental stage of the abscission layers. In African rice, the panicle and spikelet grew rapidly from 15 days before heading and almost completely grown in length at five days before heading. The abscission regions were recognized at 15 days before heading. However, any apparently developed abscission layers were not recognized in the lemma side for partially developed abscission layers. A group of parenchymatous cells could be observed sporadically in the abscission layers of the lemma side for irregularly developed ab-scission layers. At ten days before heading, abscission layers consisting of one or two layers of parenchymatous cells were clearly distinguished from neighboring cells due to thickened and lignified cell walls. There were a number of individual parenchymatous cells scattered sporadically in the lemma side of partially developed abscission layers, and a number of grouped parenchymatous cells scattered randomly in the lemma side of irregularly developed abscission layers. At two weeks after heading, the grains became almost fully filled. The cracking of abscission layers between rachilla and pedicel was observed, and the breaking tensile strength required to detach a grain from its pedicel was as low as that at harvest time.
Plant abscission is a natural process in which plant organs or tissues undergo detachment, a strategy selected by nature for the disposal of nonessential organs and widespread dissemination of seeds and fruits. However, from an agricultural perspective, the abscission of seeds or fruits represents a major factor that reduces crop productivity and product quality. Therefore, during the crop domestication process in traditional agriculture, mutants exhibiting suppressed abscission were selected and crossbred, thereby enabling the production of modern crop varieties such as rice, tomatoes, canola, and soybeans. These crops possess a unique trait of retaining ripe fruits or seeds in contrast to disposal via abscission. During the previous century, research on quantitative trait loci along with genetic and molecular biological studies on Arabidopsis thaliana have elucidated various cell biological mechanisms, signaling pathways, and transcription regulators involved in abscission. Additionally, it has been revealed that various hormone signals, which are involved in plant growth, play crucial roles in modulating abscission activity. Researchers have developed several chemical treatments that target these hormones and signal transduction pathways to enhance crop yields. This review aimed to introduce the previously identified signal transduction pathways and pivotal regulators implicated in abscission activity. Moreover, this review will discuss the future direction of research required to investigate crop abscission mechanisms for their potential application in smart farming and other areas of agriculture, as well as areas within model systems that require extensive research.

Sometimes, literary therapy is to create an abscission layer at the mind and remove the signifier of love, by the abscission layer. The purpose of this study is to reveal the mechanism of literary therapy by mutation in human-created sentences and to activate literary therapy. In Gosijo, the abscission layer of Seo Gyeongdok's mind is present in the layer of the "falling leaf" of the his Sijo's last sentence, and the abscission layer of Hwang Jin-yi's mind exists in the layer of the "falling leaf" of the her Sijo's last sentence. The "falling leaf" created by the abscission layer of Seo Gyeongdok's sentence acts as an action potential to the nervous system of Hwang Jin-yi. In Hwang Jin-yi's Sijo, the abscission layer is also activated, forming a "leaf". Hwang Jin-yi's Sijo constructs a new sensory layer that is extended and mutated more than the meaning of space between lines of Seo Gyeongdok's Sijo. In her Sijo, Hwang Jin-yi twists and twists Seo Gyeongdok's sentences to squeeze the sound. She accepts the Seo Gyeongdok's sentences and twists in the first sentence and twists out of the second sentence once more to produce the mutation in the last sentence. As a result of her sentence twist, Seo Kyung-duk's visual sense of "falling leaf" is mutated into a "falling leaf's sound" of auditory sense. This mutation process works as a healing mechanism in the human body. If this study will continue in the future, it will be possible to activate literary therapy by Sijo.
The objective of this study is to kinematically analyze forehand & backhand strokes of abscission handicap wheelchair table tennis athletes. The participant of this study were picked out of national athletes who have abscission handicap. Forehand stroke movement was expected to show a throw like motion. However, external rotation and internal rotation of the right arm created a backswing and an impact. Backhand stroke was expected to show a push like motion, and as expected, proximal part of the body didn't participate in the stroke motion, but the distal part, the right arm, rotated internally to backswing and external rotated to impact to form a push like motion. Forehand swing was expected to show throw like motion according to the Link Segmental System principle. However, abscission handicap athlete didn't show clear linking structure connecting proximal and distal parts. Successful strokes were dependant only on the angle of arm rotation.
Basal callus formation and leaf abscission is a problem in clonal micropropagation. We have described an in vitro clonal propagation protocol of Dalbergia sissoo Roxb (shisham) 'FRI-14' in which AgNO3 played important role not only in mitigating problem of leaf abscission and basal callus, but also improved shoot induction and multiplication. Best induction and shoot multiplication was obtained on MS media with 1.5 mg/l 6-BAP and 10 mg/l AgNO3 and half-strength MS media with 0.5 mg/l 6-BAP, 2 mg/l AgNO3 and 50 mg/l Adenine sulphate whereas best ex vitro rooting was obtained with 200 mg/l IBA in pulse treatment.
During pear fruit development, calyx can abscise from fruitlet following petal fall. The calyx abscission varies with pear cultivars. The presence of calyx on pear fruit makes the fruit shape calyx end protruded. In the present study, the degrees of the calyx abscission were examined in 120 Southern-type Asian pear (Pyrus pyrifolia), 52 Nothern-type Asian pear (P. ussuriensis), and 34 European pear (P. communis) cultivars, and its inheritance was investigated using cross combinations between the Southern-type Asian pear cultivars showing different degrees of calyx abscission. Majority of the cultivars produced < 10% or > 90% calyx-perpetual fruit, but the cultivars producing both calyx-perpetual and -deciduous fruit were in minor frequency. The cultivars producing < 10% calyx-perpetual fruit were in higher frequency in Southern-type Asian, Nothern-type Asian, and European pears in that order, while those producing calyx-perpetual fruit were in higher frequency in European, Nothern-type Asian, and Southern-type Asian pears in that order. In the cross between the parents producing < 10% calyx-perpetual fruit, most of the $F_1$ seedlings also produced < 10% calyx-perpetual fruit. In the cross between the parents producing > 90% calyx-perpetual fruit, on the contrary, most of the $F_1$ seedlings also produced > 90% calyx-perpetual fruit. When the paternal parent produced < 10% calyx-perpetual fruit, most of the $F_1$ seedlings also produced < 10% calyx-perpetual fruit regardless of the degree of calyx abscission in the maternal parent. When the cross was between the maternal parent producing < 10% calyx-perpetual fruit and the paternal parent showing different degrees of calyx abscission, the $F_1$ seedlings showed similar degrees of the calyx abscission to those in the paternal parent. These results suggest that the characteristics of the calyx abscission is influenced more greatly by the paternal parent than by the maternal parent, and the calyx abscission in Southern-type Asian pears is a qualitative trait which is governed by dominant gene(s).
This experiment was conducted to find the effect of calcium salts on the inhibition of 'Campbell Early' grape(Vitis labruscana B.) berry absicission induced by ethephon. Ethylene evolution, berry abscission rate, and fruit quality were examined. Several mineral contents were determinded in the berries and morphological changes of cells in abscission zone were also studied. 1. Calcium acetate($4.4-8.8g/{\ell}$) and calcium hydroxide($2.2-8.8g/{\ell}$) completely inhibited berry abscission when applied with ethephon 1,000 ppm while calcium chloride was less effective. 2. Ethylene evolution in the berries treated with ethephon alone reached to maximum peak one day after application. However, that peak in the treatment of ethephon with calcium acetate occurred 3 hours after application. 3. No decrease of ethylene production capacity was observed in the ethephon solution even when held up to 36 hours after preparation but the effect on berry abscission was significantly reduced. In contrast, ethylene production of the solution prepared with calcium acetate was greatly decreased along with the increase of holding time. The effect of calcium acetate in aged solution on the inhibition of berry abscission was not altered. 4. There were no differences in mineral contents such as Ca, Mg, and K between the berries sprayed with ethephon 500 ppm or not. Additional calcium accumulation was not found in the skin, flesh, and petiole of clusters sprayed with 3 kinds of calcium salts (1.5 g net Ca per liter) respectively when analyzed 2 weeks before maturity. 5. Ethephon (1,000 ppm) alone induced the development of abscission layer in petiole but those applied with calcium acetate (0.05 M) did not develop any distinct abscission layer 3days after treatment.

We investigated the plant phenology on the threatened species for climate change in the summit area of Mt. Deogyusan which is a representative sub-alpine zone in Korea. We had performed the monitoring survey of plant phenology on 38 species including 20 trees and 18 herbs from May 2009 to November 2010. The investigated phenological charateristics were five dates for leafing, flowering, floral abscission, autumn leaf colors and leaf abscission on each plant species in sub-alpine region. The climate data were measured from November 2009 to December 2010. The range of temperature was from 30.4 to -$20.3^{\circ}C$ at Hyangjeokbong to Jungbong region, and the relative humidity was 100% to 3.4%. The leafing dates in 2010 were similar to 2009 or were 6-20 days delayed in most of the investigated species except Veratrum oxysepalum and Sanguisorba hakusanensis which showed 8 days earlier leafing dates in 2010. The biggest difference among phenological characters was found in flowering dates. The flowering dates of early Spring blooming species such as Heloniopsis koreana, Rhododendron yedoense for. poukhanense and Viola orientalis showed 13-20 days earlier in 2010, and the several summer flowering species as Viburnum opulus var. calvescens, Smilacina japonica and Bupleurum longeradiatum showed 6-10 days delay in 2010. The dates for floral abscission and autumn leaf colors in 2010 were delayed about 10-18 days, and leaf abscission dates were similar to 2009. The effects of climate change on the phenology for the threatened species in sub-alpine zones of Korea are occuring especially on flowering, floral abscission and autumn leaf colors.
