This study is designed to evaluate the effects of an oriental herbal medication namely Danggwihwahyeolsan-gamibang and Gami-Jeonssibaekchulsan, on ulcerative colitis. Subject: A patient diagnosed ulcerative colitis who're not improved through western medication. Methods: The Clinical data was analyzed on a pastient with ulcerative clitis due to Changpung(腸風) resulted from Hanyeolchakjab(寒熱錯雜), whose symptoms were combined diarrhea, abdominal pain et al. The patient visited at the internal medicine department of Daegu Haany University affiliated Daegu Oriental Hospital on May 18. 2007 to June 25. 2007. The improvement of symptoms were checked by Seo Colitis Activity Index(AI).

Henoch-$Sch{\ddot{o}}nlein$ purpura(HSP) is one of the most common vasculitic diseases of childhood, referred to as a leukocytoclastic vasculitis affecting small vessels. Although HSP related gastrointestinal symptoms are seen in up to 80% of patients during acute illness, these symptoms are usually transient. However, some patients with HSP have gastrointestinal major surgical complications such as intussusception, bowel infarction, necrosis, stricture, and perforation. We experienced a rare case of HSP-related ileal perforation developed after corticosteroid treatment. We report a case with HSP-related intestinal perforation and assess the effect of corticosteroid on the outcome of abdominal pain in children with HSP.

Objectives: This case study reports on a case of rhabdomyolysis that occurred after spinning exercise. Methods: A patient diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis received Korean medical treatment and Western medical treatment for 6 days. We observed the patient for 13 days. Clinical symptoms were evaluated with the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) and laboratory tests that included Liver Function Test, Renal Function Test, creatinine phosphokinase (CPK), myoglobin, and urine. Results: The clinical symptoms improved after treatment. In this case, acute renal failure has not occurred. The Laboratory results, including AST, ALT, CPK, and LDH, improved. Conclusions: Rhabdomyolysis can be treated with Korean medical and Western medical cooperative treatment.

Introduction : Atopic dermatitis is very epidermic disease in these days. Atopic dermatitis is difficult for patient to be treated because there is no specific treatment. The oriental method of atopic dermatitis is varied as patient situation and doctor's view point. The Treatise on Febrile Diseases(傷寒論) may be a hint for atopy disease. Object: Although we use various method such as acupucture, aroma therapy, a medicine for external use, we use the two decoctions in the Treatise on Febrile Diseases according to differentiation of syndromes and abdominal diagnosis. Result : After inpatient treatment in 21 days, the itching, redness, exudation, crust, lichen get better and insomnia and constipation was removed quickly. The SCORAD index is decreased from 84.2 to 25.9. Conclusion : These decoction can treat the atopic dermatitis although there is no symptom in atopy because we cure the all situation of the patient. We can cure the atopic dermatitis not only by routine remedy for various symptoms but also by diagnosis and treatment based on overall analysis of symptoms and signs.

Some carnivorous gastropods have heat stable tetramine toxins in their salivary glands. This toxin is an autonomic ganglionic blocking agent that enables them to catch the prey easily by paralyzing their targets. Acute tetramine toxin poisoning in humans from eating whelks has been well described based on numerous cases, but is rare in Korea. Symptoms of tetramine poisoning include eyeball pain, blurred vision, headache, dizziness, muscular twitching, tingling of hands and feet, weakness, paralysis and sometimes collapse. Gastrointestinal symptoms, such as abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting can also occur. However, intoxication is self-limiting and patients will usually recover in about 24 hours. Herein, we report 2 cases of tetramine poisoning after ingestion of Buccinum striatissinum as meat and soup.

'Kangsim-San' is an added and subtracted prescription of 'Cheongsim-Yeonza-Tang' recorded in 'Dongeuy-Soose-Boweon' from which it has become one of the favorate prescriptions at the Oriental Medical Hospital, Kyung-Hee University. It is described in the book that the 'Cheongsim-Yeonza-Tang' can be effective to symptoms relating to fatigue, nocturnal emission, abdominal pain, tongue deviation and palsy, etc. However the 'Kangsim-San' has been used for neurotic syndrome, pulpitation, insomnia, constipation, dry-mouth, auorexia and arrythmias and so on, added to the above-mentioned symptoms for the 'Cheongsim-Yeonza-Tang' at the hospital. Nevertheless, the pharmacological research of fundamental basis is not completed so far, and we have attempted experiment on various animals to study the pharmacological effects of the medicine. The result was proved as follows; The prescription had a considerable effects on the sedation of central nervous system, antipyretic and analgesic action, and vasodilative action.

This study was written in order to help understanding of listening diagnosis to vocal sound and speech. The purpose of listening diagnosis is that we know states of essence(精), Qi(氣) and spirit(神). Vocal sound and speech are made by Qi and spirit. Vocal sound originates from the center of the abdominal region(丹田) and comes out through vocal organs, for example lung, larynx, nose, tongue, tooth, lip and so on. Speech is expressed by vocal sound and spirit. They are controled by the Five Vital organs(五臟). Various changes of vocal sound and speech observe the rules of yinyang. For example, if we consider patient likes to say or not, we can diagnose heat and coldness of illness. If we consider he speaks loudly or quietly, we can diagnose weak and severe of illness. If we consider he speaks clearly or thick, we can diagnose inside and outside of illness. If we consider he speaks damp or dry, we can diagnose yin and yang of illness. If we consider change of voice, we can diagnose new and old illness. Symptoms of changes of five voices, five sounds, dumbness and huskiness are due to abnormal vocal sound, and symptoms of changes of mad talk, mumble, sleep talking and so on are due to abnormal speech.

This case study reports patients suffering from migraine and vertigo had treated with Samul-tang plus Yijin-tang Gamibang. Two patients had taken Samul-tang and Yijin-tang Gamibang three times a day during hospitalization in oriental hospital. One patient had been hospitalized for 2 weeks and other had been for 3weeks. We control dose of added herbs according to other symptoms like dyspepsia, sleep discomfort, flushing, heating sense and diarrhea for each patients. We measure migraine by migraine disability assessment (MIDAS) and dizziness by korean dizziness handicap inventory (KDHI). Also we measure overall improvement with Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). The main symptoms had been steadily decreased to VAS2. Patient complaing of dyspepsia, heating sense, flushing had been improved with reduction of dyspepsia and patient with diarrhea, abdominal discomofort had been improved following reduction of diarrhea. Two patients didn't agree with study because this paper was written following retrospective study but patients claimed no side effect. Samul-tang plus Yijin-tang Gamibang may be considered as a treatment of migrainous vertigo with digestive problems.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to the quality of life of patients with ulcerative colitis. Methods: A total 116 patients with ulcerative colitis were asked on general characteristics, illness-related characteristics, depression, and quality of life. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: As for depression the 81.03% were normal, the 8.62% were mild depression, the 6.90% were moderated depression, and the 3.45% were severe. As for quality of life, the social functions was highest, followed by intestine-related symptoms, systemic symptoms, and emotional functions. Quality of life was positively correlated to subjective health status, age, and body mass index, and negatively to depression. Main factors affecting the quality of life included depression, subjective health status, physician's global assessment, age, days of loss in social life, and present abdominal pain. Conclusion: Physical and psychosocial health problems related to ulcerative colitis affected the quality of life of the patients. Further research is warranted for developing educational programs and psychosocial strategies in order to efficiently handle the illness.

Duodenal web is an uncommon lesion that infrequently cause partial or complete intestinal obstruction. If the duonenal web is incomplete and only partially obstructs the duodenal lumen, the onset of symptoms may be delayed for years, and obstructive symptoms will be only minimal and intermittent. Congenital duodenal obstruction is occasionally associated with intestinal malrotation. We experienced a case of duodenal web associated with intestinal malrotation in a 9-year-old girl who had been suffered from intermittent projectile vomiting since birth without failure to thrive. The diagnosis was made by UGI series & abdominal CT. Patient remained asymptomatic after operation.
