  • Learning with Attribute Value Taxonomies (AVT) has shown that it is possible to construct accurate, compact and robust classifiers from a partially missing dataset (dataset that contains attribute values specified with different level of precision). Yet, in many cases AVTs are generated from experts or people with specialized knowledge in their domain. Unfortunately these user-provided AVTs can be time-consuming to construct and misguided during the AVT building process. Moreover experts are occasionally unavailable to provide an AVT for a particular domain. Against these backgrounds, this paper introduces an AVT generating method called GA-AVT-Learner, which finds a near optimal AVT with a given training dataset using a genetic algorithm. This paper conducted experiments generating AVTs through GA-AVT-Learner with a variety of real world datasets. We compared these AVTs with other types of AVTs such as HAC-AVTs and user-provided AVTs. Through the experiments we have proved that GA-AVT-Learner provides AVTs that yield more accurate and compact classifiers and improve performance in learning missing data.

  • In this paper, preliminary results for design of prototype ADS-ADS-B/TIS-B Validation Testbed (AVT) are described. Automatic Dependent Surveillance (ADS-B) is a novel surveillance concept using the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and a digital datalink. Air traffic information from ADS-B non-equipped aircraft is not acquired since ADS-B is a dependent surveillance. Traffic Information Service-Broadcast (TIS-B) provides surveillance data from Secondary surveillance Radar (SSR) for ADS-B non-equipped aircraft. AVT is based on ADS-B and TIS-B as an integrated platform for air traffic surveillance system for CNS/ATM.

Linear Correlation between Online Capacitance and Offline Biomass Measurement up to High Cell Densities in Escherichia coli Fermentations in a Pilot-Scale Pressurized Bioreactor

  • To yield high concentrations of protein expressed by genetically modified Escherichia coli, it is important that the bacterial strains are cultivated to high cell density in industrial bioprocesses. Since the expressed target protein is mostly accumulated inside the E. coli cells, the cellular product formation can be directly correlated to the bacterial biomass concentration. The typical way to determine this concentration is to sample offline. Such manual sampling, however, wastes time and is not efficient for acquiring direct feedback to control a fedbatch fermentation. An E. coli K12-derived strain was cultivated to high cell density in a pressurized stirred bioreactor on a pilot scale, by detecting biomass concentration online using a capacitance probe. This E. coli strain was grown in pure minimal medium using two carbon sources (glucose and glycerol). By applying exponential feeding profiles corresponding to a constant specific growth rate, the E. coli culture grew under carbon-limited conditions to minimize overflow metabolites. A high linearity was found between capacitance and biomass concentration, whereby up to 85 g/L dry cell weight was measured. To validate the viability of the culture, the oxygen transfer rate (OTR) was determined online, yielding maximum values of 0.69 mol/l/h and 0.98mol/l/h by using glucose and glycerol as carbon sources, respectively. Consequently, online monitoring of biomass using a capacitance probe provides direct and fast information about the viable E. coli biomass generated under aerobic fermentation conditions at elevated headspace pressures.

  • We cloned cDNA-encoding arginine vasotocin (AVT) from the brain of the cinnamon clownfish Amphiprion melanopus, and that was predicted to encode a protein of 153 amino acids. We examined changes in the expression of AVT mRNA in the brain and arginine vasotocin receptor (AVTR) mRNA and osmotic stress transcription factor 1 (OSTF1) mRNA in the gills of the cinnamon clownfish using quantitative real-time PCR in an osmotically changing environment (seawater (35 psu) ${\rightarrow}$ brackish water (BW, 17.5 psu) and BW with prolactin [PRL]). The expression of AVT, AVTR, and OSTF1 mRNA in the brain and gills increased after transfer to BW, and the expression was repressed by PRL treatment. AVT-immunoreactive cells were almost consistently observed in the telencephalon. The plasma $Na^+$ and $Cl^-$ levels decreased in BW, but the level of this parameter increased in BW with PRL treatme during salinity change. These results suggest that AVT, AVTR, and OSTF1 play important roles in hormonal regulation in osmoregulation organs, and that PRL improves the hyperosmoregulatory ability of cinnamon clownfish in BW environment.

  • The AVT under traffic-induced vibrations was carried out on Namhae Suspension bridge in Korea. Mode shapes as well as natural frequencies up to the 15th mode were acquired exactly, and the effect of traffic mass and temperature on measured natural frequencies was investigated. The results from the AVT are compared with those from forced vibration test(FVT) and FE analysis. (omitted)

  • There are many different techniques for the estimation of the Hurst exponent. However, the techniques can produce different characteristics for the persistence of a time series each other. This study uses several techniques such as adjusted range, resealed range(RR) analysis, modified restated range(MRR) analysis, 1/f power spectral density analysis, Maximum Likelihood Estimation(MLE), detrended fluctuations analysis(DFA), and aggregated variance time(AVT)method for the Hurst exponent estimation. The generated time series from chaos and stochastic systems are analyzed for the comparative study of the techniques. Then this study discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the techniques and also the limitations of them.

Corrosion Behavior and Oxide Film Formation of T91 Steel under Different Water Chemistry Operation Conditions

  • The corrosion behavior of a ferritic/martensitic steel T91 exposed to an aqueous solution containing chloride and sulfate ions is investigated depending on the stimulated all-volatile treatment (AVT) and under oxygenated treatment (OT) conditions. The corrosion of T91 steel under OT condition is severe, while the corrosion under AVT condition is not. The co-existence of chloride and sulfate ions has antagonistic effect on the corrosion of T91 steel in both AVT and OT conditions. Unlike to corrosion resistance in the aqueous solution, OT pretreatment provides T91 steel lower oxidation-resistance than VAT pretreatment. From scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, the lower corrosion resistance in the aqueous solution by VAT conditions possibly is due to the formation of pits. In addition, the lower oxidation resistance of T91 steel pretreated by OT conditions is explained as follows: the cracks formed during the immersion under OT conditions accelerated peeling-off rate of the oxide film.

  • In PSR on the Kori 3&4 NPP, The low level radioactive waste resin from SGBD demineralizer is more than $65\%$ of total waste resin in NPP So, it needs to be improved. The secondary cooling water pH control methods are used ammonia-AVT from the first. According to changing ETA which is better than ammonia, SGBD cation load is increased about 2-3 times. Waste resin product is also increased in proportion to the SGBD cation load. To reduce the waste volume, new cation resin exchange criteria is confirmed that demineralizer is almost saturated.

Mode shapes as well as natural frequencies up to the 15th mode were acquired exactly, and the effect of traffic mass and temperature on measured natural frequencies was investigated. The results from the AVT are compared with those from forced vibration test(FVT) and FE analysis. In the case of long span suspension bridges such as Namhae bridge which has relatively large mass, the results shows that the measured natural frequencies are not affected by vehicle mass. From the results of long-term variation of natural frequencies due to temperature change, it can be said that temperature effect may be predominant to structural demage effect. Therefore, if damage detection methods based on dynamic characteristics of bridges are to be used, the variation should be taken into consideration.

  • 본 논문에서는 열분해 및 촉매반응의 의한 Hydrazine의 Ammonia 전환율을 연구하였다. 원자력발전소 2차 계통은 물/증기 순환계통으로 기기 및 배관의 부식을 억제하고, 증기발생기(Steam Generator, SG)의 부식생성물 유입을 최소하기 위해 전휘발성처리법(All Volatile Treatment, AVT)을 적용하여 계통수의 pH를 약염기성으로 유지하고 있다. 또한 Hydrazine을 이용하여 계통수의 용존산소제거 및 환원성 분위기를 유지하고 있다. 현재 사용되는 AVT는 대부분 단일 아민(Ammine)으로 계통 전 영역에서 pHt를 약염기성으로 유지하기 어렵다. 따라서 복합 아민을 이용하여 단일 아민의 상호단점을 보완한 수처리법을 적용해야한다. 하지만 복합 아민을 적용할 경우 추가 아민 주입설비, 설치부지, 시설유지보수 및 관리가 요구되므로 기존 주입약품을 이용하여 아민을 공급할 수 있는 연구가 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 Hydrazine의 열분해 및 촉매반응을 이용한 Ammonia 전환율을 조사하였다.
