A Study on Power Characteristic of Electric Motorcycle using ASM (ASM을 이용한 전기 이륜차 동력 특성 해석에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose that a model based design for an electric motor cycle system using ASM (Automotive Simulation Models). Before prototyping a realistic electric motorcycle, a reliable simulation program is required to test the capacities of the power sources and optimize the parameters of an electric motorcycle. Because ASM is based on Simulink, we can design the drivetrain and powertrain of the vehicle model systems easily. To verify the electric motorcycle system analysis of design parameters such as max power, capacity, state of charge and slope angle is carried out by the simulation and experimental method. The predicted results by the development model were in good agreement with the experimentally obtained results. Therefore, the proposed electric motorcycle model can effectively reduce the expenses during the designing of an electric motorcycle system.

A Study on Appearance-Based Facial Expression Recognition Using Active Shape Model (Active Shape Model을 이용한 외형기반 얼굴표정인식에 관한 연구)

  • This paper introduces an appearance-based facial expression recognition method using ASM landmarks which is used to acquire a detailed face region. In particular, EHMM-based algorithm and SVM classifier with histogram feature are employed to appearance-based facial expression recognition, and performance evaluation of proposed method was performed with CK and JAFFE facial expression database. In addition, performance comparison was achieved through comparison with distance-based face normalization method and a geometric feature-based facial expression approach which employed geometrical features of ASM landmarks and SVM algorithm. As a result, the proposed method using ASM-based face normalization showed performance improvements of 6.39% and 7.98% compared to previous distance-based face normalization method for CK database and JAFFE database, respectively. Also, the proposed method showed higher performance compared to geometric feature-based facial expression approach, and we confirmed an effectiveness of proposed method.

Interpretation of Simultaneous Nitrification & Denitrification Reaction by Modifying Activated Sludge Models(ASMs) (활성슬러지 모델 수정을 통한 동시 질산화.탈질 반응 해석)

  • Simultaneous nitrification and denitrification means that nitrification and denitrification occur concurrently in the same reaction vessel under low DO concentration. Some mathematical models developed to simulate simultaneous nitrification and denitrification reaction, but they have the complex model structures or have limitations of model application. To solve these problems, if possible that predict the behavior of simultaneous nitrification and denitrification reaction by activated sludge model, structures of the model is less complex than previous models and applies the various operation conditions. But original activated sludge models have difficulties in representing the denitrification reaction under aerobic condition. So the aim of this study is to interpret simultaneous nitrification and denitrification reaction by modifying activated sludge model. Original activated sludge model No.1(ASM1) was selected and modified. The simulation result in modified ASM1 predicted appropriately for the measured data. This indicates the structures of ASM1 are properly improved for interpretation of simultaneous nitrification and denitrification reaction.

  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an incurable neurodegenerative disease characterized by the degeneration of motor neurons in the spinal cord. Main symptoms are manifested as weakness, muscle loss, and muscle atrophy. Some studies have reported that alterations in sphingolipid metabolism may be intimately related to neurodegenerative diseases, including ALS. Acid sphingomyelinase (ASM), a sphingolipid-metabolizing enzyme, is considered an important mediator of neurodegenerative diseases. Herein, we show that ASM activity increases in samples from patients with ALS and in a mouse model. Moreover, genetic inhibition of ASM improves motor function impairment and spinal neuronal loss in an ALS mouse model. Therefore, these results suggest the role of ASM as a potentially effective target and ASM inhibition may be a possible therapeutic approach for ALS.

  • The active shape model(ASM) is one of the most popular methods among the shape prior based segmentation methods based on its strong shape constraints using the statistic of shape information which is acquired from the training set. ASM has a few drawbacks, such as, the lack of shape variability, and the sensitivity for false locally searched points. In this paper, we suggest the patch-wise robust ASM to overcome the limitations of the ASM. In addition to the SSM, we introduce the patch-wise SSM, to reduce the shape inflexibility and to search reliable points with the point reliance measurement. The quantitative and qualitative results show the robustmness and the accuracy of the proposed method.

Development of the Substrate Utilization and Respiration Model by the Step Growth Concept (단계별 성장 개념의 기질 이용과 미생물 호흡모델 개발)

  • Recently, mathematical modeling for the activated sludge process is important to design and control of wastewater treatment plant. Nevertheless, there is a lack of information regarding the pathway of substrate utilization between external and internal substrates in biological nutrient removal (BNR). In this research, a new activated sludge model (step growth model) is proposed and compare with ASM No.3. This model structure is consist of five processes; aerobic storage, growth on external substrate and stored intercellular storage compounds (ISCs), endogenous respiration and aerobic respiration of ISCs. The predicted results by the step growth model were more good accordance with the results of oxygen utilization rate (OUR) and TCOD experiment than that of the ASM No.3.

  • 본 논문은 기존의 디지털 설진 시스템이 아닌 임베디드 환경에서의 실시간 설진 진단 방법을 제안한다. 임의의 환경에서 얻어낸 이미지에서 혀 영역의 추출과 추출된 영역에서의 혀의 상태를 진단하는데는 많은 어려움이 있다. 다양한 조명환경에서의 영상으로부터 혀 영역을 추출해 내는 방법으로는 ASM을 이용하는 방법이 있는데 이는 검출률이 낮아 정확도가 떨어진다. 이를 보완하기 위해 본 논문에서는 ASM과 물체 외곽 정보 복원에 기반을 둔 컬러 분산 스테이크 기법을 사용하여 정확도를 개선하는 방법을 제안한다.

Multiview Tracking using Active Shape Model (능동형태모델 기반 다시점 영상 추적)

  • 다시점에서의 다중 객체 추적은 여러 분야에서 연구되고 있다. 다시점 영상 추적은 두 객체가 서로 근접하면 하나로 인식하는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위한 하나의 방법으로 능동형태모델(active shape mode: ASM)을 들 수 있다 ASM은 훈련집합을 이용하여 다른 객체에 가려진 목표 객체를 추적할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 겹쳐진 객체를 추적하기 위해 ASM 기반의 다시점 추적 알고리듬(Multi-view tracking using ASM: MVTA)에 대해서 제안한다. 제안된 추적 방법은 (i) 영상 획득, (ii) 객체 추출, (iii) 객체 추적, 그리고 (iv) 현재 형태의 업데이트, 4가지 단계로 나눌 수 있다. 첫 번째 단계에서는 여러 대의 카메라를 사용해서 다시점 영상을 획득하며, 두 번째 단계에서는 객체를 배경으로부터 분리하며, 겹쳐진 객체로부터 목표 객체를 분리해낸다. 세 번째 단계에서는 추적을 위해 ASM을 사용하며, 마지막 단계인 네 번째 단계는 현재 입력 영상의 업데이트이다. 실험결과 제안한 MVTA는 겹쳐진 객체를 추적 시에 생기는 문제에 대해서 향상 된 결과를 보여준다.

Mobile Palmprint Segmentation Based on Improved Active Shape Model

  • Skin-color information is not sufficient for palmprint segmentation in complex scenes, including mobile environments. Traditional active shape model (ASM) combines gray information and shape information, but its performance is not good in complex scenes. An improved ASM method is developed for palmprint segmentation, in which Perux method normalizes the shape of the palm. Then the shape model of the palm is calculated with principal component analysis. Finally, the color likelihood degree is used to replace the gray information for target fitting. The improved ASM method reduces the complexity, while improves the accuracy and robustness.

Modeling of Existing BNR Process using ASM3 and Modified Bio-P Module (ASM3+Bio-P module을 이용한 기존 BNR공정 모사)

  • In Activated Sludge Model, COD fraction of primary settled municipal wastewater was a very important parameter. In this study, the COD fraction was determined using the oxygen utilization rate experiments. Readily biodegradable COD ($S_S$) fraction was observed about 29.7% of influent TCOD. $S_I$, $X_I$, and $X_S$ were analyzed to be 7.6%, 7.3%, and 55.4% of TCOD, respectively. The model used in this study was developed based on ASM3 and modified Bio-P module in order to simulate the existing BNR process. Parameter estimation results showed that $Y_{STO,O2}$, $Y_{STO,NO}$, $Y_{H,O2}$, $Y_{H,NO}$, $Y_{PO4}$, ${\mu}_H$, $b_H$, ${\mu}_A$, $q_{PHA}$, $q_{PP}$ and ${\mu}_{PAO}$ were 0.7, 0.64, 0.61, 0.48, 0.31, 3.9, 0.1, 1.35, 4.98, 1.8 and 0.59, respectively. Using the presented model and the estimated parameters, the simulation of the existing BNR process was successfully conducted.
