  • New Korean lumbricids are described: Eisenia gaga Blakemore sp. nov. from remote Gageodo Island and E. sindo Blakemore, sp. nov. from an island at Incheon. Both are comparable to Eisenia koreana (Zicsi, 1972) from near Pyongyang, North Korea. A remarkable yet previously unrecognized similarity to American earthworm Eisenoides carolinensis (Michaelsen, 1910) is discussed, but synonymy is rejected on tenuous morphological grounds (form of nephridial vesicle bladders) with taxonomy supported by objective molecular data (mtDNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 barcodes).

  • Hamaticyclops ahni is described as a new genus and species from the Californian shore of the United States. It was discovered as a victim of the sea anemone Anthopleura elegantissima (Brandt). The new genus is closely related to the genus Hemicyclops but possesses, as significant autapomorphies, three strong claws on the second endopodal segment of antenna and a markedly elongate exopod of leg 5 with its protopod fused to somite.

  • Protogeton incertus Mayer, 1903 belonging to the family Caprellidae was collected from the South Sea, Korea. This species is very similar to Protogeton inflatus Mayer, but it is only distinguishable by the presence of biarticulate mandibular palp. Previous studies provided a very brief description of the species and lacked detailed illustration. In this study, the Korean Protogeton incertus is fully illustrated based on the mature and immature specimens.

  • Three baetid mayflies in the genus Procloeon Bengtsson are described from Thailand: P. narumonae, n. sp. (male and female adults and larva), P. rubeosternum, n. sp. (male and female adults, male and female subimagos, and larva), and P. siamensis, n. sp. (larva). Descriptions of known stages with line-drawings of diagnostic characters, material data, diagnoses, habitat data, and taxonomic remarks are provided.

  • In the present study, nine species of the family Braconidae are recorded for the first time from Korea: Bassus ussuriensis (Telenga), Amyosoma yanoi (Watanabe), Calcaribracon nipponensis (Watanabe), Doryctes gyljak Telenga, Rhaconotus signipennis (Walker), Allurus lituratus (Haliday), Hellenius dadianshanicus Belokobylskij, Homolobus rufiventralis Maeto, and Aulacocentrum confusum He & Achterberg. Diagnosis and photographs for the species are provided.

  • An asteroid specimen was collected in adjacent water of Gisamun, Gangwon-do in the East Sea, Korea at a depth of 170 m by fishing net at May 2013. It was identified as Nearchaster (Nearchaster) pedicellaris (Fisher, 1910) belonging to family Benthopectinidae of order Notomyotida, which was new to the Korean fauna. The genus, family, and order of this species were also new to Korean waters. The partial sequence of mitochodrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (CO1) was determined for the first time and registered at GenBank.

  • Two species, Plectiscus impurator Gravenhorst and Stenomacrus laticollis(Holmgren), of the subfamily Orthocentrinae are newly recognized from South Korea. This subfamily Orthocentrinae was represented in South Korea as 17 species belonging to four genera until now. In this paper, two additional species belonging to two genera are recorded for the first time from South Korea. Diagnoses of genera and two unrecorded species, illustrations of diagnostic characters are provided.

  • During a field survey on Korean coastal marine waters, two ciliates belonging to the genera Pseudovorticella Foissner & Schiffmann, 1975 and Frontonia Ehrenberg, 1838 in the class Oligohymenophorea de Puytorac et al., 1974, were collected. Even though the two genera are very common in the aquatic ecosystems, they had been superficially studied in Korean habitats. Using the observation of living cells and specimens impregnated by protargol, silver carbonate, and silver nitrate, two newly recorded ciliate are identified as P. paramarina Sun, Ji, Warren & Song, 2009 and F. ocularis Bullington, 1939. A brief diagnosis, remark, and comprehensive micrographs are provided for each species.

  • One ennomine species, Odontopera aurata (Prout, 1915) was newly recorded from Korea. Odontopera aurata, a species of Ennominae, is characterized by the dark yellowish forewing that shows centrally mottled with blackish dots, weakly slanted and blackish postmedial line, and undulating termen, and the yellowish hindwing with black postmedial line and short discal dot. Odontopera aurata is externally indistinguishable from O. arida but can be distinguished by the shape of furcal arm of the male genitalia. We provide diagnosis, description of adults and male genitalia, and DNA information.
