A Stydy on Steel Wire Fiber Reinforced Refractory Castable (철근 캐스터블 내화물의 고온특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study deals with the wire content, wire diameter, aspect ratio , it's arrangement of steel, wire fiber and the sorts of castable which affected the character of steel wire fiber reinformced refractory castable. Two kinds of alumina based refractory castables, one is for 1650℃ and the other is for 1800℃, and stainless steel which is SUS 304 type 0.25, 0.34 , 0.37 and 0.50m/min diameter were used respectively. Aspect ratio was adjusted to 50, 75, 100 and steel fiber content was also adjusted to 1-4wt% each. The results of the experiment were as follows : 1. At firing temperature around 1,000℃, MOR is increased with increasing wire content and aspect ratio with decreasing firing temperature, which depends on the Romualdi's Fiber Spacing Theory. But for calculation of the fiber spacing, Swamy equation is more a aplicable to the extensive fiber mixing conditions. However, the condition differs from the above at firing temperature around 1,350℃ ,because of the degradation of wire and the progress of sintering of castable. 2. Linear change is getting larger corresponding to the increase of wire content, and the spaling resistivity is increasing corresponding to the increase of wire content and to aspect ratio, and with decreasing wire diameter. 3. Firing shrinkage under load is getting greater as higher wire content, and the shrinkage of the test pieces which fiber is vertically oriented is getting greater than the test pieces which fiber is randomly oriented.

  • In total electric fire in Korea in 2006, a rate of the electric fire caused of short in electric wire is over 63.2[%]. It is needed to study a fire potentiality in electric wire. This paper studies contact and fire potentiality between a electric wire and conductors existed around the electric wire. As amplitude of current in electric wire is bigger, as it has higher possibility to contact between a electric wire and conductors existed around the electric wire. In case of temperature of wire is over combustion point of outer sheath, it is appeared to spark discharge between wire and conductors. So the fire potentiality raise up.

  • The output of the Stirling engine is influenced by the regenerator effectiveness. The regenerator effectiveness is influenced by heat transfer and flow friction loss of the regenerator matrix. In this paper, in order to provide basic data for the design of regenerator matrix, characteristics of flow friction loss were investigated by a packed method of matrix in the oscillating flow as the same condition of operation in a Stirling engine. As matrices, two different wire screens were used. The results are summarized as follows; 1. With the wire screen of No. 50 as regenerator matrices, pressure drop of working fluid of the oscillating flow is shown as 3 times higher than that of one directional flow, not too much influenced by the number of packed meshes. 2. With the wire screen of No. 100 as regenerator matrices, pressure drop of working fluid of the oscillating flow is shown as 2.5 times on the average higher than that of one directional flow, not too much influenced by the number of packed meshes. 3. Under one directional flow which used regenerator matrices with both 200, 240, and 280 wire screens of No. 50 and 320, 370, and 420 wire screens of No. 100, the relationship between the friction factor and Reynold No. is shown as the following formula. $$f=\frac{0.00326639}{Re\iota}-1.29106{\times}10^{-4}$$ 4. Under oscillating flow which used regenerator matrices with both 200, 240, and 280 wire screens of No. 50 and 320, 370, and 420 wire screens of No. 100, the relationship between the friction factor and Reynold No. is shown as the following formula. $$f_r=\frac{0.000918567}{Re\iota}+1.86101{\times}10^{-5}$$ 5. The pressure drop is shown as high in proportion as the number of meshes has been higher, and the number of packed wire screens as matrices increases.

  • Drawing is one of the oldest metal forming operations and has major industrial significance. This process allows excellent surface finishes and closely controlled dimensions to be obtained in long products that have constant cross sections. In drawing of the high carbon steel wire, exit speeds of several hundreds meters per minute are very common. Drawing is usually conducted at room temperature using a number of passes or reductions through consequently located dies. In multi-stage drawing process like this, temperature rise in each pass affects the mechanical properties of final product such as bend, twist and tensile strength. In this paper, therefore, to estimate the wire temperature in multi-stage wire drawing process, wire temperature prediction method was mathematically proposed. Using this method, temperature rise at deformation zone as well as temperature drop between die exit and the next die inlet were calculated.

  • Wire deflection, surface roughness and roundness were observed on changing discharge time for electrical discharge machining(EDM) of STD-11 in various conditions of thickness. The wire deflection was decreased as increasing discharge time and wire tension. The deflection is the smallest at the speed of wire of 10.6m/min and the water specific resistivity of 5k$\Omega$.cm. The deflection is found to be decreased as increasing dwell time. But if the water pressure is high, it is found not to be changed after the vibration of 4sec. The component of copper(Cu) and zinc(Zn), which is the main material of wire electrode, is observed for rough wire-cutting EDM of STD-11. This phenomena is found to be similar in spite of the change of EDM energy level. But it will be improved by changing the material and the shape of wire. The roundness of middle is found to be worse than that of upper and it is increased as the thickness of material is increased.

  • Compared to conventional welding process, laser welding does not use additional filler wire generally. However, if laser welding uses the filler wire, the applicability of the method can be broaden. When laser welding uses the filler wire, it is possible to enhance gap bridging ability and to prevent cracking in weld pool by metallurgical control. In this study, we had optimal condition and experimented gap bridging capability for butt welding with 2㎜ Al5052 alloys using the filler wire feeder. As the experimental parameters, wire feed rate and wire diameter are considered and then the performance of wire feed is evaluated under various filler wire welding conditions.

  • This paper presents examples of trolley wire resistance influential on the movement of tensioning devices. Therefore, this study is on the examples of trolley wire resistance which keep tensioning devices from working properly to the expansion and contraction in accordance with temperature change of overhead trolley wire system such as messenger wire and contact wire. Trolley wire resistance interrupts the working of tensioning device and drops the capacity of trolley wire. Reduced trolley wire capacity lowers the performance of current collection and has a bad effect on electrical train operation. So it is desirable to reduce the factors increasing trolley wire resistance to the minimum from the designing and construction stage of overhead trolley wire system. This study will introduce this problem and suggest the solution.

  • The characteristics of wire deflection, surface roughness and roundness were observed on changing discharge time for electrical discharge machining(EDM) of tungsten carbide in various conditions of thickness. The wire deflection was decreased as increasing discharge time and wire tension, the gap of deflection was decreased after thickness 60mm and discharge time of 6$\mu\textrm{s}$ due to the changing from fundamental mode to vibration mode. The deflection is the smallest at the water specific resistivity of 7.5 kΩ ㆍcm. The deflection is found to be decreased as increasing dwell time, and the result is due to the vibration of the pressure and the amount of the dielectric. The component of copper(Cu) and zinc(Zn), which is the main material of wire electrode, was observed for rough wire-cutting EDM of STD-11. This phenomena is found to be decreased as the number of EDM is increased. But it will be improved by changing the material and the shape of wire.   • A discharge plasma reactor using a ferroelectric pellet packed bed is now used as a removal means of pollutant gases, such as NOx, SOx and VOCs. When an ac voltage is applied to this plasma reactor, then the pellets are polarized, and great electric fields are formed at each top and bottom contact points of the ferroelectric pellets. Thus the points of each pellet become covered with intense corona discharges, where an electrophysicochemical reaction is taking place strongly However these strong discharges also elevate the temperature of the pellets greatly and concurrently decrease the output ozone generation, as a result, the overall removal efficiency of gas becomes decreased greatly A new configuration of discharge plasma reactor using a ferroelectric pellet layer and a wire-to-wire electrode has been proposed and investigated experimentally. It is found that an intensive microdischarge is taking place on the surface of ac corona-charged ferroelectric pellet layer of the proposed reactor, which concurrently enhances the efficiency of plasma generation greatly And, this type of configuration of plasma reactor utilizing a wire-to-wire electrode and a ferroelectric pellet layer could be used as one of effective plasma reactors to remove pollutant gas.

  • Micron-sized metal wires are widely used in industries such as filtration, catalyst and composite materials, etc. In the wire drawing process, the die that is used conventionally is an effective and, at the same time, sensitive component. However, a typical array of the dies has caused many problems in the wire drawing process, e.g., large frictional force on the interface between wire and the resulting high heat generation, precise adjustment of the dies, extended cooling system, die abrasion, etc.. Because of these problems, there have been many works that are aiming at improving the efficiency of wire drawing process by analyzing the die geometry and by applying advanced die material to prolong the die life or even at developing a dieless wire drawing system. This paper is dealing with developing a new wire drawing system that is applicable to reduce the wire drawing steps with high draw ratio. The new wire drawing system does not use the dies, but use the self-induced heater that works on the basis of the resonant phenomenon of wire material. The electromagnetic wave is the heating source. The results of the study on the diameter reduction and microwave flow analysis show that the heating effectiveness of the wire is influenced by the energy distribution in the microwave propagation chamber. We can obtain diameter-reduced wires by using microwave in the dieless drawing process. Microwave as a heating source is capable of producing wires without applying dies in wire drawing process.
