  • In this paper we propose an input/output model based fault diagnosis method to detect and isolate single faults in the robot arm control system. The proposed algorithm is functionally composed of three main parts-parameter estimation, fault detection, and isolation, When a change in the system occurs, the errors between the system output and the estimated output cross a predetermined threshold, and once a fault in the system is detected, and in this zone the estimated parameters are transferred to the fault classifier by ART2(adaptive resonance theory 2) neural network for fault isolation. Since ART2 neural network is an unsupervised neural network fault classifier does not require the knowledge of all possible faults to isolate the faults occurred in the system. Simulations are carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed ...

  • As internet expands, the possibility of attack through the network is increasing. So we need the technology which can detect the attack to the system or the network spontaneously. The purpose of this paper proposes the system to detect intrusion automatically using the Adaptive Resonance Theory2(ART2) which is one of artificial neural network The parameters of the system was tunned by ART2 algorithm using a lot of normal packets and various attack packets which were intentionally generated by attack tools. The results were compared and analyzed with conventional methods.

  • This paper presents two ART-based neural networks for the identification of gas mixtures subject to the drift. A fuzzy ARTMAP neural network is used for classifying $H_2S$, $NH_3$ and their mixture gases including a reference gas. The other fuzzy ART neural network is utilized to detect the drift of a tin oxide gas sensor by tracking a cluster center of the reference gas. After detecting the drift, the previous cluster center of each gas is updated as much as the drift of the reference gas. By the simulations, the proposed method is shown to compensate the drift on-line without making many categories of target gases compared with the previous studies.

  • This paper proposes content-based image retrieval system with fuzzy ART neural network algorithm. Retrieving large database of image data, the clustering is essential for fast retrieval. However, it is difficult to cluster huge image data pertinently, Because current retrieval methods using similarities have several problems like low accuracy of retrieving and long retrieval time, a solution is necessary to complement these problems. This paper presents a content-based image retrieval system with neural network in order to reinforce abovementioned problems. The retrieval system using fuzzy ART algorithm normalizes color and texture as feature values of input data between 0 and 1, and then it runs after clustering the input data. The implemental result with 300 image data shows retrieval accuracy of approximately 87%.

  • This study explores the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Korean art market and contrasts the classic hedonic method of art price prediction with the Artificial Neural Network technique. The empirical analysis of this paper utilizes 14,639 observations of Korean art auction data from 2015 to 2021. There are three types of variables in this study: artist-related, artwork-related, and sales-related. Previous studies have suggested that these three types of variables influence art prices. The empirical findings in this research are in twofold. First, in terms of RMSE and R2, the Artificial Neural Network outperforms the hedonic model. Both techniques discover that sales and artwork variables have a greater impact than artist-related attributes. Second, when the primary factors of art price are controlled, Korean art prices are found to fall dramatically in 2020, shortly following the onset of COVID-19, but to rebound in 2021. The main lesson in this study is that the Artificial Neural Network enhances art price prediction and reduces information asymmetry in the Korean art market even in the face of unanticipated turmoil such as the COVID-19 outbreak.

  • The mass attenuation coefficient is the primary physical parameter to model narrow beam gamma-ray attenuation. A new machine learning based approach is proposed to model gamma-ray shielding behavior of composites alternative to theoretical calculations. Two fuzzy logic algorithms and a neural network algorithm were trained and tested with different mixture ratios of vanadium slag/epoxy resin/antimony in the 0.05 MeV-2 MeV energy range. Two of the algorithms showed excellent agreement with testing data after optimizing adjustable parameters, with root mean squared error (RMSE) values down to 0.0001. Those results are remarkable because mass attenuation coefficients are often presented with four significant figures. Different training data sizes were tried to determine the least number of data points required to train sufficient models. Data set size more than 1000 is seen to be required to model in above 0.05 MeV energy. Below this energy, more data points with finer energy resolution might be required. Neuro-fuzzy models were three times faster to train than neural network models, while neural network models depicted low RMSE. Fuzzy logic algorithms are overlooked in complex function approximation, yet grid partitioned fuzzy algorithms showed excellent calculation efficiency and good convergence in predicting mass attenuation coefficient.

  • This paper discusses the application of fuzzy-ARTMAP neural network to compensate the nonlinearity of satellite communication channel. The fuzzy-ARTMAP is the class of ART(adaptive resonance theory) architectures designed fur supervised loaming. It has capabilities not fecund in other neural network approaches, that includes a small number of parameters, no requirements fur the choice of initial weights, automatic increase of hidden units, and capability of adding new data without retraining previously trained data. By a match tracking process with vigilance parameter, fuzzy-ARTMAP neural network achieves a minimax teaming rule that minimizes predictive error and maximizes generalization. Thus, the system automatically leans a minimal number of recognition categories, or hidden units, to meet accuracy criteria. As a input-converting process for implementing fuzzy-ARTMAP equalizer, the sigmoid function is chosen to convert actual channel output to the proper input values of fuzzy-ARTMAP. Simulation studies are performed over satellite nonlinear channels. QPSK signals with Gaussian noise are generated at random from Volterra model. The performance of proposed fuzzy-ARTMAP equalizer is compared with MLP equalizer.

  • While safe and convenient, ultrasound imaging analysis is often criticized by its subjective decision making nature by field experts in analyzing musculoskeletal system. In this paper, we propose a new automatic method to extract muscle area using ART2 neural network based quantization. A series of image processing algorithms such as histogram smoothing and End-in search stretching are applied in pre-processing phase to remove noises effectively. Muscle areas are extracted by considering various morphological features and corresponding analysis. In experiment, our ART2 based Quantization is verified as more effective than other general quantization methods.

  • This study proposes a web-based remote monitoring system for evaluating degradation of machine tools using ART2(Adaptive Resonance Theory 2) neural network. A number of studies on the monitoring of machine tools using neural networks have been reported. However, when normal condition is changed due to factors such as maintenance, tool change etc., or a new failure signal is generated, such algorithms need to be entirely retrained in order to accommodate the new signals. To cope with such problems, this study develops a remote monitoring system using ART2 in which new signals when required are simply added to the classes previously trained. This system can monitor degradation as well as failure of machine tools. To show the effectiveness of the proposed approach, the system is experimentally applied to monitoring a simulator similar to the main spindle of a machine tool, and the results show that the proposed system can be extended to monitoring of real industrial machine tools and equipment.

  • The recycling cell formation problem means that disposal products are classified into recycling product families using group technology in their end-of-life phase. Disposal products have the uncertainties of product condition usage influences. Recycling cells are formed considering design, process and usage attributes. In this paper, a new approach for the design of cellular recycling system is proposed, which deals with the recycling cell formation and assignment of identical products concurrently. Fuzzy ART neural networks are applied to describe the condition of disposal product with the membership functions and to make recycling cell formation. The approach leads to cluster materials, components, and subassemblies for reuse or recycling and can evaluate the value at each cell of disposal products. Disposal refrigerators are shown as an example.
