  • In this study we consider a CONWIP system studied in Park and Lee [1] in which the processing times at each station follow a Coxian distribution and the demands for the finished products arrive according to a compound Poisson process. The demands that are not satisfied Immediately are either backordered or lost according to the number of demands that exist at their arrival instants. For this system using the results in [1] we develop an approximation method to calculate order based performance measures such as the mean time of fulfilling a customer order and the mean number of customer orders. To test the accuracy of the approximation method, the results obtained from the approximation method are compared with those obtained by simulation. Comparisons with simulation have shown that the approximate method provides fairly good results.

We append a suspension system to auxiliary wheel for improvement in stability and movement. The designed robot can arrive at destination where is wanted to go by the old and the weak and the handicapped at indoor hospital and building.

  • Fisheries resources, due to their intrinsic biological -density dependent, and socio- economic -common property nature, might yield the sustained benefits to the society involved, depending on the degree to which the social management scheme, pursuing the optimum yield from each of them, is framed. And besides, the success or failure of the management on them would, with no doubt, lead parallelly to the direction on scientific study of "Natural Resource Economics." Thus the objectives of the management, to ensue the best use of these society's resource, should underlie the technical, economic, ana social efficiency all together to meet the maximization of society's benefits from yields, taking account of managerial efficiency. And those multiple conflicts need communications between biologists, social scientists, and managers given tile mandate, tobe coordinated to arrive at a unique value weighed, through the well-ordered system approach and resulting timely decision-making which accommodates dynamical fisheries aspects and varying social purposes. purposes.

  • We consider a system whose inherent life follows an Erlang distribution, which is subject to two heterogeneous random shocks. Minor shocks arrive according to a renewal process and each causes the system to fail independently with a certain probability. A major shock whose interarrival times follow an Erlang distribution causes the system to fail with probability one. The Laplace transform of the distribution of the time to system failure is derived in a functional form of the Laplace transform of the interarrival time distribution of minor shocks. An algorithm is given for the computation of the moments of the time to system failure.

  • This paper is a philological and epistemological study of the concept of the unconscious envisaged in Saussure. The study investigates whether the unconscious in Saussure can be put to question. Most Saussurian specialists have not as of yet raised any questions on this subject. The researches were simply limited to various comparisons between Saussurian concepts with those of Freud. The paper reconstructs the very concept of the unconscious in the Course in General Linguistics, using Lacan as a mediator between Saussure and Freud. Special attention is given to the linguistic subject who is unconscious about the law of langue, which contrasts it to the conscious of other social subjects and can be observed in the semiotic change of a social system. While not suggesting a hasty comparison between Saussure and Freud the paper draws an epistemological point of convergence. In other words, the paper tries to prove that the descriptive unconsciousness operates and intervene in the paradigmatic function of langue and that the topical unconsciousness operates to the syntagmatic function.

  • A stochastic simulated anneal ins (SSA) is a recent approach to the solution of problems characterized by large number of interacting degrees of freedom. SSA simulates the degrees of freedom in a problem in a such a way that they are a collection of atoms slowly being coolded into a ground state which would correspond to the stationary point of the problem. In this paper, for a randomly disturbed current design, SSA optimization technique is used, which establishes a probabilistic criterion for acceptance or rejection of current design and iteratively improves it to arrive at a stationary Point at which critical temperature is reached. Simple truss optimization problem which consider as their constraints only the tensile and compressive yielding strength of the members are tested using SSA. Satisfactory results are obtained and some discussions are given for the behavior of SSA on the tested truss structures.

  • To neutralize fast Anti-Tank Guided Missiles(ATGMs) or Anti-Tank Rockets(ATRs) projected at short ranges, the trajectories and times that the threats arrive at hard-kill systems should be predicted precisely. The trajectories of ATGMs or ATRs are almost stationary but the velocity and acceleration are very changeable in the terminal stage, so that it is needed to predict the characteristics of ATGMs and ATRs for filtering. In this paper the Fuzzy Rule based Adaptive Kalman Filter(FRAKF) is proposed to estimate the position, velocity and acceleration of the threats with accuracy and the performance of it is compared with the existing tracking filter considering the maneuvering characteristics of threats.

  • The paper presents and analyzes two efficient burst-level bandwidth reservation protocols for multi-hop ATM Local Area Networks. With the tell-and-wait (TNW) protocol and the tell-and-go (TNG) protocol[6], a negative acknowledgmen(NACK) message representing the bandwidth starvation on a switch on the source-destnation path can be always sent by a destination. We note that the protocols waste more bandwidth as the round-trip delay increases, since the switches on the path must reserve the bandwidth until the NACK will arrive. Based on this pitfall, the proposed protocols allow and ATM node, rather than a destination node to send a NACK. This allowance can save the needless bandwidth wastage. Using the thinned load approximation method, we show the proposed protocols have good performance and practical simplicity. Thus, the proposed protocols may be candidates for the ABR service in multi-hop ATM LANs and ATM WANs.

  • This paper introduces the modeling and analysis of a discrete-time, two-phase queueing system for both exhaustive batch service and gated batch service. Packets arrive at the system according to a Bernoulli process and receive batch service in the first phase and individual services in the second phase. We derive the probability generating function (PGF) of the system size and show that it is decomposed into two PGFs, one of which is the PGF of the system size in the standard discrete-time Geo/G/1 queue without vacations. We also present the PGF of the sojourn time. Based on these PGFs, we present useful performance measures, such as the mean number of packets in the system and the mean sojourn time of a packet.

  • Event-driven communication protocols such as CAN(Controller Area Network) have inherent packet delays due to the contention process for the use of network medium. These delays are stochastic in nature because most packets arrive at random time instants. The stochastic property of the delay adversely influences the control system's performance in terms of stability, responsiveness and steady-state error. Another problem for safety-critical application such as brake-by-wire systems is the reliability of the communication modules that can fail abruptly. This paper deals with two methods to overcome the above problems : (i) scheduling method that can maintain packet delays under some acceptable level, and (ii) redundancy management of communication modules that prescribes dual-redundancy modules' behavior when one of them fails.
