Background: The extracorporeal ventricular assist device (e-VAD) system is designed for left ventricular support using a permanent life support console. This study aimed to determine the impact of temporary e-VAD implantation bridging on posttransplant outcomes. Methods: We reviewed the clinical records of 6 patients with the Interagency Registry for Mechanically Assisted Circulatory Support (INTERMACS) profile 1, awaiting heart transplantation, who were provided with temporary e-VAD from 2018 to 2019. The circuit comprised a single centrifugal pump without an oxygenator. The e-VAD inflow cannula was inserted into the apex of the left ventricle, and the outflow cannula was positioned in the ascending aorta. The median follow-up duration was 8.4±6.9 months. Results: After e-VAD implantation, lactate dehydrogenase levels significantly decreased, and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment scores significantly improved. Bedside rehabilitation was possible in 5 patients. After a mean e-VAD support duration of 14.5±17.3 days, all patients were successfully bridged to transplantation. After transplantation, 5 patients survived for at least 6 months. Conclusion: e-VAD may reverse end-organ dysfunction and improve outcomes in INTERMACS I heart transplant patients.
The ultrastructures of germ cells during spermatogenesis and sperm morphology in male Mya arenaria oonogai, which was collected on the coastal waters of Samcheonpo, south coast of Korea, were investigated by transmission electron microscopic observations. In the early stage of the spermatid during spermiogenesis, a few granules and a proacrosomal granule, which is formed by the Golgi complex, appear on the spermatid nucleus, and then it becomes a proacrosomal vesicle. Consequently, it becomes an acrosome by way of the process of acrosome formation. The morphologies of the sperm nucleus type and the acrosome of this species have a curved cylindrical type and cone shape, respectively. The spermatozoon is approximately $48-50{\mu}m$ in length including a curved cylinderical sperm nucleus (about $2.65{\mu}m$ long), an acrosome (about $0.64{\mu}m$ in length) and tail flagellum ($40-45{\mu}m$ long). As some ultrastructural characteristics of the acrosomal vesicle, the peripheral parts of two basal rings show electron opaque part (region), while the apex part of the acrosome shows electron lucent part (region). These charateristics of the sperm belong to the family Myidae or some species of Veneridae in the subclass Heterodonta, unlike a characteristic of the subclass Pteriomorphia showing all part of the acrosome being composed of electron opaque part (region). Therefore, it is easy to distinguish the families or the subclasses by the acrosome structures. Exceptionally, In particular, a cylinder-like nucleus of the sperm is curved (the angle of the nucleus is about $20^{\circ}$), as seen in some species of Veneridae (range from $0^{\circ}-80^{\circ}$). The number of mitochondria in the midpiece of the sperm of this species are four, as one of common characteristics appeared in most species except for a few species in Veneridae in the subclass Heterodonta. Cross-sectioned axoneme of the sperm tail flagellum shows a 9+2 structure: the axoneme of the sperm tail flagellum consists of nine pairs of peripheral microtubules at the periphery and a pair of central doublets at the center.

In the early stage of the spermatid during spermiogenesis, a few granules and a proacrosomal granule, which is formed by the Golgi complex, become a proacrosomal vesicle. Consequently, it becomes an acrosome by way of the process of acrosome formation. The morphologies of the sperm nucleus type and the acrosome of this species have a curved cylindrical type and cap shape, respectively. The spermatozoon is approximately $48-51{\mu}m$ in length including a curved cylinderical sperm nucleus (about $4.18{\mu}m$ long), an acrosome (about $0.52{\mu}m$ in length) and tail flagellum ($42-45{\mu}m$ long). As some ultrastructural characteristics of the acrosomal vesicle, the peripheral parts of two basal rings show electron opaque part (region), while the apex part of the acrosome shows electron lucent part (region). Myocardial infarction is a disease caused by stenosis of the coronary arteries. The high risk of sudden cardiac death due to myocardial infarction has triggered related researches that have been actively studied so far. However, these studies focused on the clinical results, which are mainly based on observations of symptoms due to infarction through electrocardiograms. Therefore, in this study, we tried to analyze the behavior of heart according to the position and volume of infarction lesion through the computer simulation study using three dimensional ventricular models. In order to implement infarction, commercial software was used to simulate cell necrosis due to blockage of a specific coronary. In addition, the conduction block due to infarction was mimicked by reducing the electrical conduction in the infarcted area, which was 100 times less than the electrical conduction of the whole ventricular lattice implemented by the finite element analysis method. Thus, this study classified the infarcted cases into the upper, middle, lower, and apex according to lattice data of eight different infraction areas. In other words, we assumed that myocardial infarction would have inherent electro-dynamic characteristics depending on the location and extent, and analyzed the ventricular electromechanical responses for infarction lesions using a three dimensional cardiac physiome model. The results showed that the volume of infarction did not directly affect the cardiac responses, but the location of the infarction lesions could influence the ventricular pumping efficiency. These suggest that the occlusion of specific coronary arteries may have a fatal effect on the decline in ventricular performance. In conclusion, although location of myocardial infarction lesions is considered to be an important variable to be considered clinically rather than lesion size, quantitative predictions should be made more in the future considering physiological factors such as lesion location and direction of myocardial fiber at that location.
This study was to analysis three dimension angle of the upper extremity segment and trunk to putting the protector in women bowlers. For this study, the subjects selected 4 players of national and university team. All subjects putted in the same wrist support to satisfy the experiment conditions. To get three dimensions position coordination of swing motion used for 6 ProReflex MCU 240 camera produced by Qualisys. After position coordination calculation, Three dimension angle of the trunk and the upper extremity segment calculated for Matlab 6.5. the result is following; In the trunk motion, there were little differences among the subjects in a flexion and extension change. There were a lot of differences in motion change of the abduction-adduction and internal-external rotation, but the motion types translated to the adduction-abduction-adduction and from the internal rotation toward the external rotation. In the upper arm segment the Flexion and extension showed a consistent motion in the down swing and up swing phase. And the motion change of abduction-adduction and pronation-supination showed a abduction-adduction-abduction and pronation-supination change during swing phase. In the forearm segment changes, it showed a lot of differences among the subjects and a similar change with the upper arm segment. Especially, the hand segment showed a supination motion from the backswing apex to release phase, but for increasing a rotation velocity of ball, the hand segment translated toward pronation in follow throw phase.
Conidia and cultural characteristics of isolates of chromogenic and teleomorphic strains of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides from apple and red pepper were compared. The mycelial growth of teleomorphic strains was faster than that of chromogenic strains in potato dextrose agar and V-8 agar. The chromogenic isolates from apple and red pepper developed. white gray to gray green mycelial rings interspersed with salmon to apricot colored conidial masses in colonies on potato dextrose agar and V-8 agar and none formed on ascigerous stage in cultures. The chromogenic isolates from red pepper produced conidia, most with one apex attenuated on apple and potato dextrose agar whereas fusiform and smaller conidia were produced in V-8 agar and water agar leaf medium. The chromogenic isolates from apple produced fusiform conidia in the media tested. The teleomorphic isolates from apple and red pepper produced cylindrical conidia, most with both apices rounded, developed white gray to dark olive green in a zonate pattern with small dark spots throughout colonies and formed the ascigerous stage in cultures.
A rust disease occurred on Veratrum patulum in Deogyusan National Park, Jeollabukdo. The typical symptoms of the disease appeared as small, yellowish spots on leaves at first. The spots then turned brown, their edges rised slightly, and powdery mass of yellow or yellowish brown spores appeared on the lesions. Severely infected leaves blighted and eventually defoliated. Urediniospores were yellowish brown in color, globose, subglobose or ellipsoid in shape and $19{\sim}27\;{\times}\;17{\sim}24\;{\mu}m$ in size. Teliospores were brown in color, ellipsoid, ovate or oblong in shape and $19{\sim}36\;{\times}\;15{\sim}21\;{\mu}m$ in size, the apex mostly rounded, with hyaline or subhyaline conical papilla, the base rounded or attenuated, smooth. Pedicels hyaline or subhyaline, up to $38\;{\mu}m$ long. The causal fungus was identified as Uromyces veratri Schroeter based on mycological characteristics and host specificity.
Violence in our society, combined with improving transport system, resulted in increased numbers of patients with cardiac wounds reaching the hospital alive. Most patients with penetrating cardiac injury, rather than blunt injury, present with a syndrome of either hemorrhagic shock or cardiac tamponade. And they should be operated upon as soon as possible. Often the atrioventricular valves and other important cardiac structures are also damaged by the penetrating instruments or missile. Both intracardiac communications and atrioventricular fistulas may result in significant left-to-right shunts accompanied by congestive heart failure, necessitating surgical correction. Usually, retained cardiac foreign bodies, which are almost always bullets or fragments of missiles, may lie within a cardiac chamber or in the myocardium. Emboli of bullets or other missiles from distant sites to the right side of the heart are numerous enough to require attention. Recently we experienced a case with intracardiac foreign body due to penetrating cardiac injury. A 19 year-old man was admitted to our hospital due to penetrating anterior chest wound by iron segment. The roentgenogram of the chest revealed a radio-opaque metallic shadow in left lower chest around the cardiac apex, mild blunting of left costophrenic space, but no cardiomegaly. During operation the foreign body was noted to be present in the cardiac chamber by the portable C-arm fluoroscopy. But during the manipulation it moved into left inferior pulmonary vein from left ventricle by way of left atrium. So we could manage to remove it from left inferior pulmonary vein by direct approach to the vein. It was iron segment, sized 0.lcm x0.6cmx0.5cm, with sharp margins. The patient had an uneventful postoperative recovery except for chylopericardium and was discharged.
The most important subject in cultivation of A. gigas NAKAI would be how to decrease the bolting rate. Belcause the decrease and poor of the yields and quality is imevitable in such field where the bolting rate is high. This study was carried out to investigate the time of flower-bud differentiation as a part of improvements of cultivation method. Shoot apex was fixed in Farmer's solution(ETOH 3:Acetic acid 1), thin paraffin ribbon was made, and the tissue was stained by Safranin solution. Differentiation time of flower-bud in A. gigas differed greatly from individuals by the seedling size, generally begun from middle of May to late of June, it was time that two leaves spread. In this results, Photoperiocid types of A. gigas NAKAI were regarded as LI type or LS type of dull-photosensitivity.
