  • A Semi-Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (SAUV), capable of simple work on the seabed, is under development in KRISO-KORDI. This SAUV pressure vessel is composed of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP), and is also manufactured to carry electronic equipment. The objective of this paper is to describe the safety check for the pressure vessel. This is achieved fly conducting structural analysis and testing in a pressure tank. Strain and stress test results, under unit load, are obtained fly using ANSYS in linear structural analysis. Local buckling analysis are performed with NASTRAN at the middle oj the cylindrical hull. The first test, using linear structural analysis, is unsuccessful, as buckling occurred. During the second test, linear structural analysis, combined with local buckling analysis, is conducted. There is no buckling up to 250 m when both ANSYS and NASTRAN are used.

  • In this paper, the effect of underfill packages was investigated by numerical approach and experimental test. Reliability improvement was the main issue in the package technology. BGA, CSP and small-sized packages, have problems due to concentration of the stress in solder joints. One of the latest technologies to overcome is underfill encapsulant. Mainly, it is noticed the effect of the underfill in the packages. The predicted thermal fatigue lifes are performed by Coffin-Manson's equation with ANSYS (v.5.62). Also, thermal cycle test during from 218K to 423K was included. Finally we could find that underfill greatly reduce the concentration stress in solder joint, thus the fatigue life was improved than without underfill.

  • The recent completions of free-form spatial structures provide us a very attractive form. To realize such an extraordinary shape, it is absolutely necessary that the connector systems have to be investigated the characteristics of the systems and analyzed with a practicable method. In this context, this research consists of not only literature research but also numerical analysis with selected connector systems, which was adopted in real free-form spatial structures. For numerical analysis, especially, finite element analysis (FEA) is performed with a various test parameter using a commercial program ANSYS. Consequently, the general characteristics of node connectors the moment-rotation-curves are presented by considering a large deformation effect as well as a multi-linear material properties.

  • This paper describes a low frequency driven electromagnetic energy harvester (EMEH) which consists of a thin flame resistant (FR-4) planar spring, NdFeB permanent magnets, and a copper coil. The FR-4 spring was fabricated using a desk computer numerical control (CNC) 3D modeling machine. Mathematical modeling and ANSYS finite element analysis (FEA) were used totheoretically investigate the mechanical properties of the spring mass system. The proposed EMEH generates a maximum power of 65.33 ${\mu}W$ at a resonance frequency of 8 Hz with an acceleration of 0.2 g (1 g = 9.8 $m/s^2$) and a superior normalized power density (NPD) of 77 ${\mu}W/cm^3{\cdot}g^2$.

  • This study presents design optimization of spot welded structures to attain maximum strength by using the Nelder-Mead (Simplex) method. It is the main idea of the algorithm that the simulation run is executed several times to satisfy predefined convergence criteria and every run uses the starting points of the previous configurations. The material and size of the sheet plates are the pre-assigned parameters which do not change in the optimization cycle. Locations of the spot welds, on the other hand, are chosen to be design variables. In order to calculate the objective function, which is the maximum equivalent stress, ANSYS, general purpose finite element analysis software, is used. To obtain global optimum locations of spot welds a methodology is proposed by modifying the Nelder-Mead (Simplex) method. The procedure is applied to a number of representative problems to demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method. It is shown that it is possible to obtain the global optimum values without stacking local minimum ones by using proposed methodology.

  • This paper aims to examine the dynamic response of a newly designed ultrasonic motor under half-sine shock impulses. Impact shock was applied to the motor along x, y or z axis respectively with different pulse widths to check the sensitivity of the motor to the shocks in different directions. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with the ANSYS software was conducted to obtain the relative displacement of a key point of the motor. Numerical results show that the maximum relative displacement is of micro meter level and the maximum stress is five orders smaller than the Young's modulus of the piezo material, which proves the robustness of the motor.

  • Mode conversion type ultrasonic rotary motor using bolt tightened Langevin type vibrator was studied. Driving frequency of the motor, displacements and elliptical trajectories at tip of the coupler were simulated by finite element analysis program (ANSYS). Speed and torque of the fabricated motor were measured as functions of input voltage and load. As results, from FEA the driving frequency of 40.8[kHz] and useful elliptical trajectories were found. Fabricated motor rotated clockwise at frequency of 38.2[kHz]. Speed and torque of the motor were increased when the input voltage was increased. Maximum speed, torque and efficiency were 75[rpm], 0.14[Nm] and 6.28[%], respectively.

  • This paper presents the structural analysis of the pressure vessels in the unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) under developing at KORDi, which consists of a ROV, an AUV and a launcher at 6000 m depth in the ocean. Analytical, linear and nonlinear stress and buckling analysis of cylindrical pressure vessels using FEM (ANSYS) are performed to verify the safety of the current design.

  • Recently advanced laser processing is widely introduced to improve the efficiency of micro part production and to reduce the rate of inferior goods. In this paper the trend of delamination of single layer with both thin copper and polyimide according to the variation of copper thickness was investigated using the coupled thermal-structural analysis of ANSYS. From these analyses results, some conclusions were obtained. Firstly, the maximum temperature was increasing with respect to decrease of copper thickness. Secondly the maximum strain which was in general estimation the main effect of the delamination was observed in case of the copper thickness of $5{\mu}m$. Finally the trend of the delamination was decreasing with increasing the thickness of copper layer.

  • In this paper, we write about EDISON program. We study about where to use this program. We can use this program for FEA naturally. But we study that using this program in class. Many students can't understand many mechanics of materials' problem. They want to see image such as change of beam. It can help students to understand many problem. We can use ANSYS or Abaqus. But EDISON program is better for students because of it is freeware. In this paper, I write two problem. One is peak stress of basic beam, another is shearing stress flow of I-beam. On the basis of this, EDISON program will be widely used.
