Tribological properties of ultra-thin diamond-like carbon coating at various humidity

  • This study concerns the tribological behaviors of ultra-thin DLC coating with 3 nm thickness deposited in a mixed gas of argon + 20 % hydrogen as a function of humidity. Reciprocating wear tests employing a micro wear tester were performed under various normal loads and relative humidity in air environment. The chemical composition of the original and worn surfaces were studied by Auger electron spectroscopy (AES). It showed that the ultra-thin DLC coating exhibited low friction with enough wear stability at low normal load (0.18 N) and its tribological behavior was strongly dependent on the humidity. The sample surfaces before and after the test were examined using atomic force microscopy (AFM). Capillary force and meniscus areas were discussed in order to explain the influence of humidity on the friction force.

  • We have investigated the generation of pretilt angle for a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) alignment with rubbing alignment method on the two kinds of polyimide (PI) surfaces using thin plastic substrates. The NLC pretilt angles generated on thin plastic substrates are higher than that on the glass substrate. We study that AFM (atomic force microscope) image of rubbed PI surface with polymer film has formed the micro-groove. Also, EO characteristics of the TN-LCD with a rubbed PI surface based on polymer are almost the same as that of the TN-LCD with a rubbed PI surface based on glass.

  • This paper covers the basic principles of the AFM and how these systems may be used to image biological materials and measure particle-surface interactions in process environments. e.g. visualize molecules and structure on surfaces in aqueous environments, measure forces of interaction of proteins and DNA, biosurface and cells. Examples of work include applications biological spore control agents control systems, process materials selection for example appropriate filters for biological processing, mechanical properties and bio-surface engineering.

Structural and Optical Properties of ZnO Thin Films Grown at Various Plume-Substrate Angles by Pulsed Laser Deposition (펄스레이저 증착법에서 기판-플룸 각 변화가 ZnO 박막의 구조 및 광학적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • ZnO thin films were grown with different plume-substrate angles by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) to control the amount of ablated species arriving on a substrate per laser shot. The angles between plume propagation direction and substrate plane (P-S angle) were 0$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$. The growth time was changed in order to adjust film thickness. From the XRD pattern exhibiting a dominant (002) and a minor (101) XRD peak of ZnO, all films were found to be well oriented along c-axis. From the AFM image, it was found that the grain size of ZnO thin film was increased, as P-S angle decreased. UV intensity investigated by PL (Photoluminescence) increased as P-S angle decreased.

  • This paper presents development of carbon nanotube (CNT) tip modified by focused ion beam (FIB) and experimental results in non-contact mode of atomic force microscopy (AFM) using fabricated tip. We used an electric field which causes dielectrophoresis, to align and deposit CNTs on a conventional silicon tip. The morphology of the fabricated CNT tip was then modified into a desired shape using focused ion beam. We measured anodic aluminum oxide sample and trench structure to estimate the performance of FIB-modified tip and compared with those of conventional Si tip. We demonstrate that FIB modified tip in non contact mode had superior characteristics than conventional tip in the respects of wear, image resolution and sidewall measurement.

  • 전도성 고분자인 PEDOT은 좋은 광학적 특성 및 유연성, 등의 장점으로 인해 TCO 박막으로의 응용을 위한 연구가 이루어 지고 있다. 하지만, 아직 까지는 높은 수준의 전도성 향상을 기대하기는 어려운 실정이며 전도성 향상에 대한 체계적 연구가 부족한 상황이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 다양한 알코올을 이용한 Dipping treatment를 활용하여 전도성의 변화에 대한 고찰을 하였으며, 열처리 과정을 통해 전도성이 어떻게 영향을 받는지에 대하여 연구하였다. 이를 위해 박막의 두께 및 cross-section을 FE-SEM을 이용하여 측정하였고, 각 각의 박막의 비저항은 4-poin probe를 활용하여 면저항을 구한다음 두께를 곱하는 방법으로 계산하였다. 동시에 열처리 및 Dipping을 한 박막의 PEDOT의 표면을 AFM image를 통해 확인하였다.

  • Al electrode for OLED was deposited by Facing Targets Sputtering(FTS) system which can reduce the damage of organic layer. The Al thin films were deposited on the slide glass as a function of working gas such as Ar, Kr or mixed gas. The film surface image was observed by AFM and SEM. In the results, when Al thin film were deposited using mixed gas, the surface morphology was improved in some region.

Functional Improvement of Poly(Vinyl Alcohol) Polarized Film by $O_2$ Low Temperature Plasma Treatment (산소 저온 플라즈마 처리에 의한 PVA 편광필름의 기능성 개선)

  • In this research, we accomplished in order to improving color fastness of sublimation for Poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-iodine polarized film. The poor iodine sublimation problem has greatly improved by $O_2$ low temperature plasma treatment. We obtained the followings: (1) plasma treatment has contributed in adhesive ability via peel strength, AFM image and roughness were investigated, But the improvement in adhesive strength was not linearly proportional to the treatment time. (2) $O_2$ plasma treated PVA-iodine polarized film was good enough as to maintain the transmittance and polarization even after iodine cone. of 0.05mol/L and dipping time of 50sec. (3) $O_2$ low temperature plasma treated PVA-iodine polarized film has obtain high durability because of good adhesive strength.

  • Recently lots of study on EL have been performed by other researcher. Organic multilayer system of TPD/$Alq3$ and Rhodamine 101 perchrolate/Alq3/ was constructed on ITO and finally Al as cathodic electrode. The thickness of emitting layer was $150{\AA}$ and device was fabricated by changing amount of dopant. AFM image for each surface morphology and EL spectra using fluoromax-2 was investigated. Electrical and emission properties of EL device was dependent on deposition method and condition.

Deposition of Cermet Solar Selective Coatings for High Temperature Applications (고온용 서밋 태양선택흡수막의 증착)

  • Cr-CrO cermet solar selective coatings with a double cermets layer film structure were prepared using a special direct current (dc) magnetron sputtering technology. The typical films structures from surface to bottom substrate were measured to be an $Al_2O_3$ anti-reflection layer on a double Cr-CrO cermet layer on an Al metal infrared reflection layer. Optical properties of optimized Cr-CrO cermet solar selective coating were absorptance (${\alpha}$) = 0.95 and emittance (${\varepsilon}$) = 0.10 ($100^{\circ}C$). Atomic force microscopy (AFM) image showed that Cr-CrO cermet film was very smooth and their grain size was also very small The results of thermal stability test showed that the Cr-CrO cermet solar selective coatings were stable for use at temperature of $400^{\circ}C$.
