  • Graphene was fabricated onto Ni/Si substrate using a rapid-thermal pulse CVD and they were transferred onto the Ti/PES flexible substrate. For top electrode applications of the BMNO dielectric films, graphene was patterned using a argon plasma. Through an AFM image and a leakage current density of the BMNO films grown onto various bottom electrodes before and after bending test, BMNO films grown onto the graphene bottom electrode showed no change of the microstructure and the leakage current density after the bend.

  • In this paper, the effects of oxidants on tungsten chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) process were investigated using three different oxidizers such as Fe(NO₃)₃, KIO₃ and H₂O₂. Moreover, the interaction between the tungsten film and the oxidizer was discussed by potentiodynamic polarization measurement with three different oxidizers, in order to compare the effects of W-CMP and electrochemical characteristics on the tungsten film as a function of oxidizer. As an experimental result, the tungsten removal rate reached a maximum at 5 wt% Fe(NO₃)₃concentration, and when 5 wt% H₂O₂was added in the slurry, the removal rate of W increased. Also, the microstructures of surface layer by atomic force microscopy(AFM) image were greatly influenced by the slurry chemical composition of oxidizers. It was shown that the surface roughness and removal rate of the polished surface were improved in Fe(NO₃)₃than KIO₃. The electrochemical results indicate that the corrosion current density of the 5 wt% H₂O₂ and 5 wt% H₂O/sub 2+/+ 5 wt% Fe(NO₃)₃was higher than the other oxidizers. Therefore, we conclude that the W-CMP characteristics are strongly dependent on the kinds of oxidizers and the amounts of oxidizer additive.

  • The paper compares topography, phase contrast and force spectroscopy in atomic force microscopy data for evaluating the microheterogeneity of surface layer. The worn surface of ion-plated TiN coating was measured using both a laboratory-built and a commercial AFM. The results of analysis revealed structural and micromechanical heterogeneity of the worn surfaces. We demonstrated that the phase image allows relatively qualitative estimation of elastic modulus of the sample surface. The tribolayer formed in the worn surface possessed much lower stiffness than the original coating. It is shown that the most stable phase imaging is provided with a stiff cantilever. In this case, phase contrast is well conditioned, first of all, by microheterogeneity of elastic properties of the investigated surfaces. In this study an attempt was also made to correlate the results of phase imaging with that of the farce spectroscopy. The joint analysis of information on the surface properties obtained by the phase imaging and quantitative data measured with the force spectroscopy methods allows a better understanding of the nature of the surface micromechanical heterogeneity.

  • We have investigated the generation of pretilt angle for a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) alignment with rubbing alignment method on polyimide surfaces using thin plastic substrates. It was found that monodomain alignment of NLC is obtained with rubbing alignment method on polyimide surfaces using thin plastic substrates. The NLC pretilt angles generated are about 3$^{\circ}$ by the rubbing alignment method on thin plastic substrates, However, the pretilt angle are at about 1.7$^{\circ}$ lower on the glass substrate than on thin plastic substrate. We obtain that AFM (atomic force microscope) image of rubbed PI surface with polymer film has formed the micro-groove structure at the low curring temperature (120$^{\circ}C$). However, no grooves are obtained on the glass substrate at the same temperature. It is considered that this alignment may be attributed to roughness of micro-groove substrate. The tilt angle increases with increasing baking temperature for making polyimide layer using glass substrate. It was concluded that the pretilt angle in the polyimide surface is attributable to the increasing of imidization rato.

  • Although DLC coatings have good tribological properties, these are dependant on the deposition method, the property of contact surface, and test condition. Humidity, which has little influence on tribological behavior in macro scale, is an important factor of tribological behavior in small devices like MEMS. The objective of this study is to investigate the tribological behavior of DLC coatings with particular attention to their wettability at various humidities. DLC coatings were deposited on Si substrates and tested using a reciprocating friction tester against Si$_3$N$_4$balls at various humidities. The results showed that the tribological behavior of DLC coatings was dependant on relative humidity and wettablility of DLC coatings. Friction coefficient at high relative humidity was higher thar that at low relative humidity. The tungsten-containing DLC coatings had a good wear resistance at low relative humidity whereas DLC coatings derived from argon(Ar)+cesium(Cs) gases showed a good wear resistance at high relative humidity.

Organic matter thin film that accumulate molecular film in archaism board only that consist of growth of domain can understand correct special quality of accumulation film supplying information about fine structure and properties of matter of device observing information and so on that is surface forward player and optic enemy using AFM one of SPM application by nano electronics. The stable images are probably due to a strong interaction between the monolayer film and glass substrate. We are unable to obtain molecule resolution in images of the films but did see a marked contrast between images of the bare substrate and those with the network structure film deposited onto it. • Electroplating of Ag and Au on the functional area of lead frames are required for good bonding ability in IC packaging. As the patterns of the lead frame become finer, development of new deposition technology has been required for solving problems associated with process control for uniform thickness on selected area. Sputtering was employed to investigate the adhesion between substrate Alloy42 and Ag film as a new candidate process alternative to conventional electroplating. Coating thickness of Ag film was controlled to 3.5$\mu\textrm{m}$ at room temperature as a reference. The deposition of film was optimized to ensure the adhesion by process parameters of substrate heating temperature at $100~300^{\circ}C$, sputter etching time at -300V for 10~30min, bias voltage of -100~-500V, and existence of Cr interlayer film of $500\AA$. The critical $load L_{c}$ /, defined as the minimum load at which initial damage occurs, was the highest up to 29N at bias voltage of -500V by scratch test. AFM surface image and AES depth profile were investigated to analyze the interface. The effect of bias voltage in sputtering was to improve the surface roughness and remove the oxide on Alloy42.

  • Magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized by using the sonochemical method with oleic acid as a surfactant. The average size of the magnetite nanoparticles was controlled by varying the ratio R=[$H_2O$]/[surfactant] in the range of 2 to 9 nm. To prepare chitosan-coated magnetite nanoparticles, chitosan solution was added to a magnetite colloid suspension under ultrasonication at room temperature for 20 min. The chitosan-coated magnetite nanoparticles were characterized by several techniques. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to image the chitosan-coated nanoparticles. Magnetic hysteresis measurement was performed by using a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer to investigate the magnetic properties of the magnetite nanoparticles and the chitosan-coated magnetite nanoparticles. The SQUID measurements revealed the superparamagnetism of both nanoparticles. The T1- and T2-weighted MR images of these chitosan-coated magnetite colloidal suspensions were obtained with a 4.7 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. The chitosancoated magnetite colloidal suspensions exhibited enhanced MRI contrasts in vitro.

  • The control of tilt angle for nematic liquid crystal (NLC) with negative and positive dielectric anisotropy on the rubbed homeotropic polyimide (PI) using baking method by hot plate equipment was investigated. LC tilt angle decreased with increasing baking temperature and time. Especially, the low LC tilt angle of positive type NLC (Δ$\varepsilon$>0) on the rubbed homeotropic PI surface by increasing temperature and time was measured. The tilt angle of positive type NLC(Δ$\varepsilon$>0) is smaller than that of the negative type (Δ$\varepsilon$>0) on rubbed PI with increasing baking temperature and time. We consider that the tilt angle of NLC is decreased due to increasing the steric interaction between horizon component of permittivity $\varepsilon$ = of NLC and the stress of polymer side chain by high temperature. As the increase of baking temperature, we obtain that AFM (atomic force microscope) image of rubbed PI surface using Hot-plate method has formed better solid micro-groove structure than oven method.
