fiber Orientation Effects on the Acoustic Emission Characteristics of Class fiber-Reinforced Composite Materials (유리섬유강화 복합재의 AR특성에 대한 섬유배향 효과)

  • The effects of fiber orientation on acoustic emission(AE) characteristics have been studied for the unidirectional and satin-weave, continuous glass-fiber reinforced plastic(UD-GFRP and SW-GFRP) tensile specimens. Reflection and transmission optical microscopy was used for investigation of the damage zone of specimens. AE signals were classified as different types by using short time fourier transform(STFT) : AE signals with high intensity and high frequency band were due to fiber fracture, while weak AE signals with low frequency band were due to matrix and interfacial cracking. The feature in the rate of hit-events having high amplitudes showed a process of fiber breakages, which expressed the characteristic fracture processes of individual fiber-reinforced plastics with different fiber orientations and with different notching directions. As a consequence, the fracture behavior of the continuous GFRP could be monitored as nondestructive evaluation(NDE) through the AE technique.

  • 연삭작업에 있어서 요구되는 가공능률과 가공정밀도를 얻기 위해서는 적절한 결합도를 갖는 연삭숫돌을 선택하 는 것이 중요한 요건이 된다. 본 연구에서는 결합도를 평가하기 위한 일정한 기준을 설정할 목적으로 AE계측 시스템을 이용하여 대월식결합도시험방법에 따라 연삭숫돌표면의 일부를 파괴시켰을 때 발생되는 AE신호를 검출 하고 연삭숫돌의 파괴량과 AE 신호특성과의 관계 및 AE를 이용한 결합도평가의 가능성을 검토하였다.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the grade of WA vitrified and resinoid bond grinding wheels by the sue of AE measuring system. When the manufactured 48 kinds of specimens were scratched by the method of OKOSHI'S grade test, the relationship between the amount of bit scratch depth of grinding wheel specimens and the character- istics of AE signals, and the relationship of AE counts and grade were considered as fololws; (1) The higher the grades are AE cumlulative event counts N and AE event count rate n, the smaller the values tend to be. But A $E_{rms}$is in reverse. (2) In the case of same grade, the smaller the grain size is, the higher the value of AE cumulative event counts N and A $E_{rms}$is results of comparison and observation. The grinding wheel with lower elasticity and with higher percentage of pore detected higher value of AE cumula- tive event counts N than with higher elasticity and lower percentage of pore. But A $E_{rms}$ is in reverse. (3) AE cumulative event counts N and bit scratch depth h have normally one to one correspondence. (4) It can be expected that quantitative evaluations of grade by using AE have been carried out by the wave observation of AE signal in line with the relationship between load speed of bit and AE cumulative event counts N & AE event count rate n.' Interfacial fracture analysis of human tooth/composite resin restoration using acoustic emission (음향방출법을 이용한 치아/복합레진 수복재의 계면부 파괴해석)

  • The marginal integrity at the composite resin-tooth interface has been analyzed in real time through acoustic emission (AE) monitoring during the polymerization shrinkage of composite resin subjected to the light exposure. It was found that AE signals were generated by the polymerization shrinkage. Most AE hit events showed a blast type signal having the principal frequency band of 100-200kHz. Bad bonding states were indicated by many hit events in the initial curing period of 1 minute with high contraction rate. The quantity of hit events for the human molar dentin specimen was much less than that for the steel ring specimen but more than that for the PMMA ring specimen. The better the bonding state, the less the AE hit events. The AE characteristics were related with the tensile crack propagation occurring in the adhesive region between the composite resin and the ring substrate as well as the compressive behavior of the ring substrate, which could be used for a nondestructive characterization of the marginal disintegrative fracture of the dental restoration.

  • An epidemiological study on brugian filariasis was carried out in endemic areas including Cheju Island in Korea, with a brief review of literatures. The results showed that the incidence among residents has remarkably decreased in Cheju Island, which was the main endemic area. Reviewing available informations on the prevalence of filariasis reported in recent years and also judging from the present socio·economic conditions which enable people to practice personal protection against mosquitos, it can be said with confidence that alariasis has almost disappeared from Cheju Island and inland areas. The disease is considered to remain at a low level of endemicity in Hugsan Islands. Certainly mass diethylcarbamasine (DEC) treatment carried out in Cheju Island in the 1960s and 1970s and remarkable economic growth followed by improved living standard and altered life-style of inhabitants could all have combined effects on the disappearance of this mosquito-borne disease in this island. If the present trends go on, the possibility of resurgence of filariasis in Cheju Island is hardly postulated.
