In this paper, the prototype of surface EMG (ElectroMyoGram) sensor is developed for the robotic rehabilitation applications, and the developed sensor is composed of the electrodes, analog signal amplifiers, analog filters, ADC (analog to digital converter), and DSP (digital signal processor) for coding the application example. Since the raw EMG signal is very low voltage, it is amplified by about one thousand times. The artifacts of amplified EMG signal are removed by using the band-pass filter. Also, the processed analog EMG signal is converted into the digital form by using ADC embedded in DSP. The developed sensor shows approximately the linear characteristics between the amplitude values of the sensor signals measured from the biceps brachii of human upper arm and the joint angles of human elbow. Finally, to show the performance of the developed EMG sensor, we suggest the application example about the real-time human elbow motion acquisition by using the developed sensor.
An 12bit current-mode folding and interpolation analog to digital converter (ADC) with multiplied folding amplifiers is proposed in this paper. A current - mode multiplied folding amplifier is employed not only to reduced the number of reference current source, but also to decrease a power dissipation within the ADC. The designed ADC fabricated by a 0.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ n-well CMOS double metal/single poly process. The simulation result shows the power dissipation of 280㎽ with a power supply of 5V.

This paper presents a power and area efficient SAR ADC for multi-channel near threshold-voltage (NTV) applications such as neural recording systems. This work proposes a split dual-capacitive-array (S-DCA) structure with shifted input range for ultra low-switching energy and architecture of multi-channel single-ended SAR ADC which employs only one comparator. In addition, the proposed ADC has the same amount of equivalent capacitance at two comparator inputs, which minimizes the kickback noise. Compared with conventional SAR ADC, this work reduces the total capacitance and switching energy by 84.8% and 91.3%, respectively.
제안하는 ADC는 0.25 um double-poly five-metal n-well CMOS 공정을 이용하여 설계 및 제작되었고, 시제품 ADC의 DNL(differential nonlinearity)과 INL(integral nonlinearity)은 각각 ${\pm}$0.40 LSB, ${\pm}$0.48 LSB 수준을 보여준다.

This paper describes a low power asynchronous successive approximation register (SAR) type 12b analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for biomedical applications in a 0.35 ${\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The digital-to-analog converter (DAC) uses a capacitive split-arrays consisting of 6-b main array, an attenuation capacitor C and a 5-b sub array for low power consumption and small die area. Moreover, splitting the MSB capacitor into sub-capacitors and an asynchronous SAR reduce power consumption. The measurement results show that the proposed ADC achieved the SNDR of 68.32 dB, the SFDR of 79 dB, and the ENOB (effective number of bits) of 11.05 bits. The measured INL and DNL were 1.9LSB and 1.5LSB, respectively. The power consumption including all the digital circuits is 6.7 ${\mu}W$ at the sampling frequency of 100 KHz under 3.3 V supply voltage and the FoM (figure of merit) is 49 fJ/conversion-step.
In this study, we developed a system to detect the various defects in the metallic objects using the phenomenon that the defects cause the changes of the natural resonant frequencies. Our system consists of a FFT Amp, an Auto Impact Hammer, a Hammer controller and a PC. Auto Impact Hammer creates vibrations in the metallic objects when tapped on the surface. These vibrational signals are converted to the voltage signals by an acceleration sensor attached to the metallic part surface. These analog voltage signals were fed into an ADC (analog-digital converter) and an FFT (fast fourier transform) conversion in the FFT Amp to obtain the digital data in the frequency domain. Labview graphical program was used to process the digital data from th FFT amp to display the spectrum. We compared those spectra with the standard spectrum to find the shifts in the resonant frequencies of the metal parts, and thus detecting the defects. We used PCB's acceleration sensor and TI's TMS320F28335 DSP (digital signal processor) to obtain the resolution of 2.93 Hz and to analyze the frequencies up to 44 kHz.
