Current Mode Integrated Control Technique for Z-Source Inverter Fed Induction Motor Drives

  • This paper presents a current mode integrated control technique (CM-ICT) using a modified voltage space vector modulation (MSVM) for Z-source inverter (ZSI) fed induction motor drives. MSVM provides a better DC voltage boost in the dc-link, a wide range of AC output voltage controllability and a better line harmonic profile. In a voltage mode ICT (VM-ICT), the outer voltage feedback loop alone is designed and it enforces the desired line voltage to the motor drive. An integrated control technique (ICT), with an inner current feedback loop is proposed in this paper for the purpose of line current limiting and soft operation of the drive. The current command generated by the PI controller and limiter in the outer voltage feedback loop, is compared with the actual line current, and the error is processed through the PI controller and a limiter. This limiter ensures that, the voltage control signal to the Z-source inverter is constrained to a safe level. The rise and fall of the control signal voltage are made to be gradual, so as to protect the induction motor drive and the Z-source inverter from transients. The single stage controller arrangement of the proposed CM-ICT offers easier compensation. Analysis, Matlab/Simulink simulations, and experimental results have been presented to validate the proposed technique.

  • This paper presents a cyclocoverter with a LC resonant circuit for a induction motor dr-ive. The cycloconverter can provide variab-le voltage and frequency three phase output while keeping the input displacement factor at 1.0. The input current wave forms are sinusoidal, and the wide output frequency ran-ge is appropriate for variable speed AC motor drives.

  • In the vector controlled induction machine drives, mechanical speed sensors such as shaft encoder and resolver have been used. However, the mechanical speed sensors present some problems and restrict the wide applications of high performance AC drives. This paper describes the vector control strategy with the speed estimation algorithm in which motor slip frequency is calculated. Also, the angle deviation of the rotor flux vector is calculated and instaneously compensated to keep the q axis flux zero in the rotationary reference frame.

  • In this paper, an approach to reduce common-mode voltage (CMV) at the output of multilevel inverters using a phase opposition disposed (POD) sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) technique is proposed. The SPWM technique does not require computations therefore, this technique is easy to implement on-line in digital controllers. A good tradeoff between the quality of the output voltage and the magnitude of the CMV is achieved in this paper. This paper realizes the implementation of a POD-SPWM technique to reduce CMV using a five-level diode clamped inverter for a three phase induction motor. Experimental and simulation results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed technique.

  • Advantages of switched reluctance motor(SRM) drives make it an attractive candidate for replacing adjustable speed ac and do drives in both industrial and consumer applications. Furthermore, a simple, low cost and robust SRM drive can be efficiently operatied ill the hostile environment of an automobile. In this paper, novel topology for fast response of various load is proposed. Proposed topology adapts anti-windup PI controller at increasing speed referense and activate braking mode at decreasing speed and forward load, Experiental results show that proposed topology have fast response charecteristics at increasing and decreasing speed reference.

  • The traction motors in electric multiple unit (EMU) trains are powered by AC-DC-AC converters, and the DC link voltage is generated by single phase PWM converters, with a fluctuation component under twice the frequency of the input catenary AC grid, which causes fluctuations in the motor torque and current. Traditionally, heavy and low-efficiency hardware LC resonant filters parallel in the DC side are adopted to reduce the ripple effect. In this paper, an analytical model of the ripple phenomenon is derived and analyzed in the frequency domain, and a ripple control scheme compensating the slip frequency of rotor vector control systems without a hardware filter is applied to reduce the torque and current ripple amplitude. Then a relatively simple discretization method is chosen to discretize the algorithm with a high discrete accuracy. Simulation and experimental results validate the proposed ripple control strategy.

  • In order to drive motor control system precisely, the motor is to be controlled by mmfs and current with sinusoidal waveforms. In this paper the Delta Modulation (DM) Technique is used for generating PWM pulse with sinusoidal waveform. However the motor currents yet contain odd harmonics due to leakage inductances, speed and exitation. To reduce harmonics, the parameter adaptive control method is introduced. That is, Req.C parameter of Delta Modulator is controlled adaptively by parameter adaptor. The adaptive signal is achieved by the difference between motor current and reference waveform, and this signal is converted to the voltage commend signal by adaptive mechanism. The test reslts show that this system is operated smoothly over a wide range of motor speed and motor current is controlled to be sinusoidal waveform adaptively.

  • In this paper, a single-phase to three-phase PWM converter topology using six switches only for low cost induction motor drive is proposed. The converter topology is of lower cost than the conventional one, which gives sinusoidal input current, unity power factor, dc output voltage control and bidirectional power flow In addition, the source voltage sensor is eliminated by controlling the deviation between the model current and the system current to be zero. The performance of the proposed converter has been demonstrated through the computer simulation.

  • In this paper, do link ripple currents for three-phase ac/dc/ac PWM converters feeding adjustable speed ac machine drives are analysed in a frequency domain. The expression of the harmonic currents is developed by using switching functions of the converter and exponential courier series expansion. The effect of the displacement angle between the switching Periods of line-side converters and motor-side inverters on the dc link ripple currents is Investigated. Also, the influence of asynchronization of PWM is observed. The result of analysis is compared with frequency spectrum which results from PSIM simulation. The proposed analysis technique is useful to understand the principles of P% and to derive an equivalent model of the dc link capacitors in a high frequency range.
