High temperature high cycle and low cycle fatigue deformation behavior of automotive heat resistant aluminum alloys (A356 and A319 based) were investigated in this study. The microstructures of both alloys were composed of primary Al-Si dendrite and eutectic Si phase. However, the size and distribution for eutectic Si phase varied: a coarse and inhomogeneous distributed was observed in alloy B (A319 based). A brittle intermethallic phase of ${\alpha}-Fe\;Al_{12}(Fe,Mn)_3Si_2$ was detected only in B alloy. Alloy B exhibited high fatigue life only under a high stress amplitued condition in the high cycle fatigue results, whereas alloy A showed high fatigue life when stress was lowered. With regard to the low-cycle fatigue result ($250^{\circ}C$) showing higher fatigue life as ductility increased, alloy A demonstrated higher fatigue life under all of the strain amplitude conditions. Fractographic observations showed that large porosities and pores near the outside surface could be the main factor in the formation of fatigue cracks. In alloy B. micro-cracks were formed in both the brittle intermetallic and coarse Si phasese. These micro-cracks then coalesced together and provided a path for fatigue crack propagation. From the observation of the differences in microstructure and fractography of these two automotive alloys, the authors attempt to explain the high-temperature fatigue deformation behavior of heat resistant aluminum alloys.
The growing use of aluminum for castings over the past decade has brought with it the increased scrutiny of component properties. One area that has received much attention is the effect of in inclusions - or impurities particles held in the metal - on casting properties. A new method of electromagnetic separation for removal of inclusions in aluminum alloy melts is proposed. The principle is that as the electromagnetic force induced in metal acts on inclusions due to low electric conductivity, they are moved to the direction opposite to electromagnetic force and can be separated and removed from the melt. Experiments were carried out on A356 melt mixed alumina particles and commercial Al alloys of ADC 10 and 12. In the experiment using A356, it was proved that $Al_2O_3$ particles was separated and removed continuously from matrix melt by electromagnetic force. Based on these results, the continuous separation experiment that used ADC 10, 12 was carried and the cleanliness of melt was assessed by the amount of porosity, hydrogen contents, PoDFA and mechanical properties through tensile test. As the results of analyses, the amount of porosity and hydrogen contents decreased without variation of chemical composition in the specimen that passed the electromagnetic continuous separator. In addition, tensile strength and elongation of this specimen increased by $20{\sim}30%$ because of reduction of inclusions.
To improve the quality of the product and the cost efficiency, the joining of A356 alloy to an Al-18wt%Si alloys has been performed by centrifugal casting. The influence of the mold preheating temperature, the pouring temperature and the rotational velocity of the mold on the microstructures of the shell in the centrifugal casting was investigated using the experimental and simulation methods. In the present study, the cellular automaton (CA) technique and the finite volume method (FVM) were adopted to simulate the evolution of the macro structures and to calculate the temperature profiles, respectively. The evolution of the microstructures was also simulated using a modified cellular automaton (MCA) model. The optimal rotational speed of the mold for obtaining the sound shape of the shell was estimated experimentally to be over 1200 rpm. For the uniform microstructure, the outer shell needs to be cast with higher preheated mold temperature and lower pouring temperature, and the melt was poured at lower temperature in the inner shell. In order to obtain the sound shape of the joining, the different materials were poured simultaneously.

The compression behavior of semi-solid materials is studied from a viewpoint of yield criteria and analysis methods. To describe the behavior of materials in semi-solid state, several theories have been proposed by extending the concept of plasticity of porous compressible materials. In the present work, the upper-bound method and the finite element method are used to model the simple compression process using yield criteria of Kuhn and Doraivelu. Segregation between solid and liquid which cause defect of product is analysed for Sn-15%Pb and A356 alloys during deformation in semi-solid state. The comparison of analyses is made according to yield criteria and analysis methods. In addition, the analysis result for semi-solid dendritic Sn-15%Pb alloy is compared with the experimental result of Charreyron et al..
Improvement of the mechanical properties of a commercial aluminium casting alloy, A356, was achieved through an optimised combination of alloying elements, modification, and heat treatment. 0.7 wt.% Cu and an additional 0.2 wt.% Mg were added to an Al-7Si-0.35Mg alloy for strengthening at both room and elevated temperatures, whilst a subsequent decrease in the ductility was compensated for by the modification of eutectic Si by Sr addition at a level of up to 110 ppm. It was found that the dissolution of Cu-rich or Mg-rich phases could be maximised by solid-solutionising an alloy with 40 ppm Sr at $530^{\circ}C$, increasing the tensile and yield strengths to 350 MPa and 297 MPa, respectively, with a reasonably high strain of 5% after peak-aging at $210^{\circ}C$. Further addition of Sr up to 110 ppm is, however, more likely to interfere with the dissolution of the Cu-rich or Mg-rich phases during solid solution treatment, resulting in a slight decrease in both tensile and yield strengths at room temperature. Besides the Cu addition, such undissolved phases, on the other hand, may contribute to elevated temperature strength at $200^{\circ}C$.
In this study, electrochemical damage behaviors with flow rate were investigated for anodized 5083 aluminum alloy in seawater. As the results of anodic polarization experiments and potentiostatic experiments at +1.0 V (vs. SSCE), the non-flow condition presented largely damaged surface resulting from a tendency of local pitting damage. Under various flow rate conditions, however, less surface damages under the application of anodic potential was obtained which is attributed to no accumulation of $H^+$ and $Cl^-$ ions on the surface. On the other hand, the results of the potentiostatic experiments at -1.0 V (vs. SSCE) with flow rate showed that anodized 5083 aluminum alloys could achieve the effective cathodic protection by low cathodic protection current density less than $2.61{\times}10^{-7}A/cm^2$ even under high flow rate of 1 m/s.
Above all Ni-alloys Inconel 625 is used widely in plate of welding structural materials such as turbine case, a combustor of liner. In general, weldability of Inconel 625 is not well because of poorly liquids of weld metal also it have a broken probability oj the welding crack. In case of FCAW weld process, it is not easy to develope of welding materials, because it is possible only fillet welding at view position of look down except for butt welding. But recently, though it is more used by FCAW process, owing to welding materials worked at the vertical position. the study for FCAW weld of Inconel 625 is actively not yet worked. In this study, the weldability and weld characteristics(mechanical characteristics, corrosive property) of Inconel 625 are considered in FC4W weld associated with the several shielding gases$80\%Ar\;+\;20\%\;CO_2,\;50\%Ar\;+\;50\%\;CO_2,\;100\%\;CO_2$ in viewpoint of welding productivity. The results of impact test are follows; It was evaluated 70J at shielding gase of $100\%\;CO_2$, and obtained about 35J at the other shielding gases. If it was used for parts be required the impact value at the extremely low temperature, it is expected to have the advantage of using the $100\%\;CO_2$ shield gase than the others.
A good fluidity of high strength Al-alloys is required to cast thin wall castings needed to reduce the weight of cast parts. The fluidity, measured as the length to which the metal flows in a standard channel, is affected by many factors, such as the pouring temperature, solidification type of the alloy, the channel thickness, melt head, mold materials and temperature, coating etc. Therefore the experimentally measured fluidity scatters very much and makes it difficult to estimate the fluidity of a melt with a few measurements. The effect of Ti content and grain refinement on the fluidity of high strength aluminum alloy was investigated with a test casting with 8 thin flow channels to reduce the scattering of the fluidity results. The fluidity of Al-4.8%Cu-0.6%Mn Al-6.2%Zn-1.6%Mg-1.0%Cu and well-known commercial aluminum alloy, A356 was tested. Initial content of Ti was varied from 0 to 0.2wt% and Al-5Ti-B master alloy was added for grain refinement. The flow length varied linearly with superheat. By adding Ti and Al-5Ti-B, the fluidity increased. The grain size decreased by adding grain refiner at the same time. The fluidity depended on the degree of grain refinement. The fluidity of the alloy solidifying in mushy type is improved by grain refinement, because grain refinement increases the solid fraction at the time of flow stoppage.
