Purpose - Ethical consumption is the action of buying one product over another with an ethical idea in mind. It has gained in popularity since the 1990s with more emphasis being put on the power of consumer actions to create social, economic, and environmental change. Ethical consumption involves boycotts of certain products or brands as well as purchases linked to ethical issues. Cause-related marketing (the buying behavior of ethical consumption) involves a for-profit and non-profit entity teaming up to promote a product at the same time as promoting a social cause. Each time a consumer buys that product, a donation is made by the for-profit entity to the non-profit entity supporting the specific cause. Cause-related marketing has become a tremendously popular type of ethical consumption in recent years owing to its reputation of allowing companies to "do well by doing good." This study examines how consumers' perception of cause and attitude influence their attitude toward a cause-related marketing campaign and attempts to suggest implications for marketers. Research design, data, and methodology - First, this study was designed to examine the consumers' perception factors (cause involvement, attitude for cause, attitude for company and brand familiarity) in order to determine whether these factors have significantly affected consumers' attitude toward a cause-related marketing campaign. Second, this study developed a structural equation model and tested it empirically using survey data from 223 individual respondents. Respondents were undergraduate students in Chungnam. They were shown an existing real campaign message of cause-related marketing, and then filled out a questionnaire. Data were analyzed with SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 17.0 programs. Results - The hypotheses were tested using factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The study's results showed that brand familiarity, attitude to the company and attitude to the cause significantly affected consumers' attitude toward the cause-related marketing campaign and performance. In particular, attitude to the cause was significantly related to attitude and performance of the cause-related marketing campaign. However, the hypothesis about cause involvement was not supported with the results indicating that cause involvement did not affect consumers' attitude toward the cause-related marketing campaign. The findings underline the importance of consumer perceptions of the cause and the company and their attitude to the cause. They point to the importance of individual differences that influence consumer perceptions of the cause, the company and brand familiarity. Also of importance is the consumer's attitude to the cause. Conclusions - The findings suggest some practical implications in designing and implementing cause-related marketing campaigns. It is important to enhance brand familiarity and create a favorable attitude to the company and attitude to the cause before designing cause-related marketing campaigns. The rising popularity of cause-related marketing has been attributed to its potential to cut through advertising clutter. The findings in this study suggest that marketing campaigns supporting a cause make a difference.
For last several decades with the achievement of fast economic development, the electrical fires occupies over 30 percent of total fire incidents almost every year in Korea and not decreased in spite of much times and efforts. Electrical fire cause diagnostics are to confirm a cause for the fire by examination of fire scene. Cause diagnosis methods haven't been systematized yet, because of limits for available information, investigator's biased knowledge, etc. Therefore, in order to assist the investigators and to find out the exact causes of electrical fires, required is research for an electrical fire cause diagnosis system using DB, computer programming and some mathematical tools. The electrical fire cause diagnosis system has two functions of DB and electrical fire cause diagnosis. The cause diagnosis is conducted by a case-based reasoning on a case base and rule-based reasoning on a rule base. For the diagnosis with high reliability, a mixed reasoning approach of a case-based reasoning and fuzzy rule-based reasoning has been adopted. The electrical fire cause diagnosis system proposes the electrical fire causes inferred from the diagnosis processes, and possibility of the causes as well.
This paper presents a knowledge-based electrical fire cause diagnosis system using the fuzzy reasoning. The cause diagnosis of electrical fires may be approached either by studying electric facilities or by investigating cause using precision instruments at the fire site. However, cause diagnosis methods for electrical fires haven't been systematized yet. The system focused on database(DB) construction and cause diagnosis can diagnose the causes of electrical fires easily and efficiently. The cause diagnosis system for the electrical fire was implemented with entity-relational DB systems using Access 2000, one of DB development tools. Visual Basic is used as a DB building tool. The inference to confirm fire causes is conducted on the knowledge-based by combined approach of a case-based and a rule-based reasoning. A case-based cause diagnosis is designed to match the newly occurred fire case with the past fire cases stored in a DB by a kind of pattern recognition. The rule-based cause diagnosis includes intelligent objects having fuzzy attributes and rules, and is used for handling knowledge about cause reasoning. A rule-based using a fuzzy reasoning has been adopted. To infer the results from fire signs, a fuzzy operation of Yager sum was adopted. The reasoning is conducted on the rule-based reasoning that a rule-based DB system built with many rules derived from the existing diagnosis methods and the expertise in fire investigation. The cause diagnosis system proposes the causes obtained from the diagnosis process and showed possibility of electrical fire causes.
A cause-effect graph considers only the desired external behavior of a system by identifying input-output parameter relationships in the specification. When testing a software system with cause-effect graphs, it is important to derive a moderate number of tests while avoiding loss in fault detection ability. Pairwise testing is known to be effective in determining errors while considering only a small portion of the input space. In this paper, we present a new testing technique that generates pairwise tests from a cause-effect graph. We use a Boolean Satisbiability (SAT) solver to generate pairwise tests from a cause-effect graph. The Alloy language is used for encoding the cause-effect graphs and its SAT solver is applied to generate the pairwise tests. Using a SAT solver allows us to effectively manage constraints over the input parameters and facilitates the generation of pairwise tests, even in the situations where other techniques fail to satisfy full pairwise coverage.
Background: High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) levels are lower in Japanese compared with Western subjects. Since it is uncertain whether hsCRP is a potent predictor of mortality at low CRP concentrations, the present study examined associations with all-cause and cause-specific mortality in a large population of Japanese. Materials and Methods: Subjects were 4,737 men and 6,343 women aged 49-76 years participating in the baseline survey of an ongoing cohort study of lifestyle-related diseases between February 2004 and July 2006. Hazard ratios for all-cause and cause-specific mortality associated with hsCRP levels were estimated using Cox proportional hazards regression. Results: A total of 436 all-cause deaths occurred during a median follow-up of 8 years. The main cause of death was cancer. In men, hsCRP levels were positively associated with the risk of all-cause mortality as well as deaths from cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD). All-cause mortality hazards for the 2nd (0.34-0.84 mg/L) and the 3rd (${\geq}0.85mg/L$) tertiles of hsCRP were 1.27 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.93-1.73) and 1.75 (1.30-2.37), respectively (p for trend=0.001). In women, increased risk of all-cause and cause-specific mortality associated with elevated hsCRP levels was observed, but the associations were not statistically significant. Conclusions: HsCRP may be an independent predictor of all-cause, cancer and CVD mortality in apparently healthy Japanese men, but not women. The differential effect of hsCRP in predicting mortality risk by sex warrants further investigation.
Through a literal study upon the cause of epilepsy between east and west medicine, next conclusion have been abtained. 1. The cause epilepsy in the east medicine, congenital embryo disease is due to insufficiency of heart(心虛) or deficiency of heart energy(心氣虛), secondary cause is wind -evil(風), frightness(驚), phlegm(痰), fire(火) 2. The cause epilepsy in the west medicine is divided congenital disease and secondary cause, one is excessive discharge of electricity of the brain have on a central nerve, a digestive organ, a respiratory organ, hamatogenous functions, the other is hereditary it and pathological it. 3. The epilepsy is concerned about the abnormality in five viscera, liver, spleen, heart. 4. In comparison east and west medicine of epilepsy is native factor, or innate primary cause is added to outer cause of wind-evil(風), cold-evil(寒), summer-heat(署), wetness(濕), and inner cause of frightness-terror(驚-恐), seven modes of emotions(七情) and the epilepsy is occurred phlegm(痰), fire(火). It similar that the epilepsy is occurred to structural and functional obstacle in western hereditary and primary cause.

Mortality study is an essential component of actuarial risk management for life insurance policies, annuities, and pension plans. Life expectancy has drastically increased over the last several decades; consequently, longevity risk associated with annuity products and pension systems has emerged as a crucial issue. Among the various aspects of mortality study, a consideration of the cause-of-death mortality can provide a more comprehensive understanding of the nature of mortality/longevity risk. In this case study, the cause-of-mortality data in Korea and the US were analyzed along with a multinomial logistic regression model that was constructed to quantify the impact of mortality reduction in a specific cause on actuarial values. The results of analyses imply that mortality improvement due to a specific cause should be carefully monitored and reflected in mortality/longevity risk management. It was also confirmed that multinomial logistic regression model is a useful tool for analyzing cause-of-death mortality for actuarial applications.
The current research examines whether and when cause marketing, whereby firms link product sales to the support of a charity or cause, can increase charitable giving and happiness. Previous research suggests that cause marketing might reduce charitable giving and happiness among consumers. However, the present research finds the opposite result by introducing nostalgia as a moderator; cause marketing can enhance consumers' charity giving when their nostalgia is triggered. Moreover, results show that charitable giving increased by cause marketing improves feelings of happiness, suggesting that people view charitable behavior as a means of enhancing happiness. Interestingly, charitable giving and happiness are promoted by the situational priming of nostalgic events, but not by chronic individual differences such as nostalgia proneness.
This study examines how consumer value and conspicuous consumption tendency influence attitudes and purchase intention toward fashion cause-related marketing products. Survey questionnaires were distributed to 326 women in their 20's to 50's living in Seoul January 2012. The instruments included measurements of consumer value, conspicuous consumption tendency, attitude toward fashion cause-related marketing products, intention to purchase fashion cause-related marketing products, and demographics. Factor analysis, correlations, and multiple regressions were conducted using SPSS 12.0. The results of this research are as follows. Consumer value affected attitude toward fashion cause-related marketing products as well as intention to purchase products. Those with a higher conspicuous consumption tendency showed a higher intention to purchase fashion cause-related marketing products, regardless of attitude toward fashion CRM products. This indicates that and association with famous prestige brands will increase the possibility of success of cause-related marketing products. The research helps establish a marketing strategy to launch new fashion cause-related marketing products by discovering the relationships between consumer consumption patterns and attitudes toward fashion cause-related marketing products.
Alarm flood due to abnormality propagation is the most difficult alarm overloading problem in nuclear power plants (NPPs). Root-cause analysis is suggested to help operators in understand emergency events and plant status. Multilevel Flow Modeling (MFM) has been extensively applied in alarm management by virtue of the capability of explaining causal dependencies among alarms. However, there has never been a technique that can identify the actual root cause for complex alarm situations. This paper presents an automated root-cause analysis system based on MFM. The causal reasoning algorithm is first applied to identify several possible root causes that can lead to massive alarms. A novel root-cause ranking algorithm can subsequently be used to isolate the most likely faults from the other root-cause candidates. The proposed method is validated on a pressurized water reactor (PWR) simulator at HAMMLAB. The results show that the actual root cause is accurately identified for every tested operating scenario. The automation of root-cause identification and ranking affords the opportunity of real-time alarm analysis. It is believed that the study can further improve the situation awareness of operators in the alarm flooding situation.
