Study on the Combustion Characteristics of a Small-Scale Orimulsion Boiler (소형 오리멀젼 보일러의 연소특성 연구)

  • In order to examine the application feasibility of Orimulsion fuel in a commercial boiler using heavy fuel oil, a numerical and experimental research efforts have been made especially to figure out the fundamental combustion characteristics of this fuel in a small-scale boiler. One of the notable combustion features of Orimulsion fuel is the delayed appearance of flame location with the flame shape of rather broad distribution, which is found experimentally and confirmed by numerical calculation. This kind of flame characteristics is considered due to the high moisture content included inherently in the process of Orimulsion manufacture together with micro-explosion by the existence of fine water droplets. In order to investigate the effect on the combustion characteristics of Orimulsion, a series of parametric investigation have been made in terms of important design and operational variables such as injected amount of fuel, types of atomization fluid, and phonemenological radiation model employed in the calculation, etc. The delayed feature of peak flame can be alleviated by the adjustment of the flow rate of injected fuel and the generating features of CO, $SO_2$ and NO gases are also evaluated in the boiler. When the steam injection as atomizing fluid is used, the combustion process is stabilized with the reduced region of high flame temperature. In general, the calculation results are physically acceptable and consistent but some refinements of phenomenological models are necessary for the better resolution of pollutant formation. From the results of this small-scale Orimulsion boiler, it is believed that a number of useful information are obtained with the working computer program for the near future application of Orimulsion fuel to a conventional boiler.

  • The elementary experiment was performed to develop the emulsified fuel production system using pressure injection nozzle in this study. The stabilities and characteristics of emulsified fuel which is produced through direct spray of water via pressure injection nozzle into oil are examined.   • The characteristics of typical 17 kinds of fuel oils are studied to fine the calculation formulae for the required amount of air and the combustion gas amount. 1) The author's calculation formulae are as follows; (1) Theoretically required amount of air (2) Theoretical amount of combustion gas 2) Theoretical amount of the required air in combustion and combustion gas of fuel oils are always estimated less with Rosin's formula than with author's one. 3) Theoretical amount of the required air and the amount of combustion gas of fuel oils are more reasonable with author's formula than Rosin's one in comparison with results of actual analysis.

  • Computations were performed to investigate the spray characteristics of the twin fluid nozzle in three stage heavy-oil combustion burner. The burner geometry and flow conditions were provided by a burner company. The goal of the study is to estimate mean droplet size, initial velocity and spread factor of the nozzle through comparison between experiments and numerical analyses. Air stage ratio is 2:4:4 by mass, and O2 in exhaust gas is about 4 % by volume. Here, the agreement between the experiment and numerical analyses is evaluated by NOx generation. Spray characteristics will be linearly interpolated between fuel consumption rate l20L/h and 240 L/h.

  • 산업혁명 이후 계속된 산업화로 이산화탄소, 메탄, 이산화질소와 같은 온실가스의 대기 중 농도가 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 세계 각국은 화석연료 고갈 및 기후변화에 대처하기 위해 대체연료에 대한 연구가 활성화되고 있는데 특히, 폐유 재생과 폐기물의 발생 및 처리 문제를 극복하기 위해 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 본 시험은 폐유를 정제한 정제연료유와 유화정제연료유의 물성을 석유제품인 중유와 비교 분석하였다. 유화정제연료유는 폐유 중 중금속, 회분 및 슬러지 등을 제거한 후 유화제 등을 넣어 생산된 제품으로 연구를 수행하였다. 본 논문은 이에 대한 전반적인 내용을 언급하였다.

  • 포항제철소에는 13개의 발전기가 있어 제철소에서 필요로 하는 전력을 자체적으로 945MWH 규모로 공급하고 있다. 발전소에서 사용되는 에너지원은 제철공정에서 부수적으로 발생하는 부생가스(BFG, COG, LDG, CFG)와 외부에서 구매하는 중유, LNG가 있다. 안정적인 전력공급과 비용절감을 위한 발전기 가동계획을 수립하기 위해서는, 조업상황에 따라 변동되는 전력소요량 및 부생가스 발생량을 예측하여 발전기별로 사용될 연료량을 배분하고, 발전기별 효율을 반영한 발전량을 결정하게 된다 이러만 발전기 가동계획 수립을 수작업에 의존하고 있어, 수시로 변화하는 상황에 신속한 대처가 곤란하고, 모든 요소를 고려하기가 어려워 에너지비용을 절감할 수 있는 기회손실의 우려가 있었다. 본 연구에서는 LP 및 NLP를 적응하여 발전기별 연료배분 및 발전량을 결정하는 과정을 자동적으로 수행하는 발전기 가동계획수립 Model을 개발하였다. Data 입·출력용으로 Excel, LP Package는 What's Best, Programming Language는 VBA(Visual Basic for Application)를 활용하였다.

  • The Geum river being used as drinking water sources has contaminated due to inflow of inadequately treated wastewater from the tributaries into the river. The characteristics of water quality in the upper regions showed good grade(BOD<3mg/L) in the Geum river, the Mankyung river and the Dongjin river, while that in the lower regions and the upper region of the Sapkyo river did not achieve the good grade. This resulted in the inflow of domestic, industrial and livestock wastewater not adequately treated by wastewater treatment systems. For lakes, the mouth of the kyungchun lake, the Sapkyo lake and the Yedane lake showed the eutrophication phenaminon with higher COD concentration. In particular, total phosphorus and chlorophyll-a concentration were higher in the Sapkyo lake than other lake.

  • The product developed in this study is a ceramic catalyst filter for 1 ton heavy-oil boiler that can simultaneously process dust and nitrogen oxides. This has been developed for simultaneous processing of nitrogen oxides and dust at high efficiency of hot exhaust gas (approximately $300^{\circ}C$) generated after burning 1 ton heavy oil boiler. Ceramic catalytic filters for 1 tonne heavy-duty glass display are technologies that remove 90% of dust and 85% or more of nitrogen oxides. This is an improved new technology to integrate exhaust ventilation and desiccation devices into one, thereby reducing the production process and improving the economy. To this end, the performance test of the catalytic filter for heavy oil boilers was carried out, and the durability of the PLC circuit was constructed.

  • Recently, water leak is increasing due to poor compaction or segregation of concrete on external wall. In addition, the flatness quality of the slab is lowered due to the deterioration of the workability of concrete. In this study, the performance of high fluidity concrete of 21MPa using a polycarboxylate-based superplasticizer was evaluated to improve the compaction and quality of the concrete wall.

A Study on the In situ Regeneration Effects of Commercial Deactivated SCR Catalyst (상용 탈질 SCR 폐촉매의 현장 재생 효과 고찰)

  • A study on the in situ regeneration effect of commercial deactivated SCR catalyst which had been exposed to the off gas from the heavy oil fired power plant for a long time was carried out in a simulated in situ conditions by washing with distilled water and various acid solutions in a short time. The catalytic performance test of the regenerated SCR catalysts was carried out in the micro reactor with simulated off gas of the heavy oil fired power plant and all prepared catalysts were characterized by BET, Porosimeter, EDX (Energy Dispersive X-ray spectrometer) and ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) to investigate correlations between catalytic activity and surface characteristics of them. The characterization results of the regenerated catalysts showed that the specific surface area was restored 95% more than that of fresh catalyst. Under this study, the activity of the regenerated catalysts with acid solution (3~6 M) without using ultrasonic wave in a simulated in situ conditions was restored 90% more than that of the fresh catalyst. It was found that improved activity of regenerated catalyst was caused by removing the deactivating materials from the surface of the deactivated SCR catalyst through acid washing.
