The Study on the Effect on Friction Characteristics of Brake Pads With $BaSO_4$ and $CaCO_3$ ($BaSO_4$$CaCO_3$ 자동차용 Brake Pad의 마찰 특성에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the friction characteristics of brake pads according to different ratios of $BaSO_4/CaCO_3$. Four brake pads with different ratios of $BaSO_4/CaCO_3$ were manufactured. The friction characteristics of brake pads were tested using 1/5 reduced scale tester. With increasing of the amount of $BaSO_4$ density and shear strength of brake pads were increased and hardness of brake pads were decreased. In effectiveness, the friction coefficient of brake pad was higher and the stability of friction coefficient was better as the ratio of $BaSO_4$ increased. In fade test, friction coefficient of B3 sample used only $CaCO_3$ was decreased rapidly. B1 sample showed a good noise performance without noise generation. The wear resistance of samples were decreased with increasing of the ratio of $CaCO_3$.

  • Aspect-ratio-based numerical analysis is carried out to investigate the air-side convective heat transfer characteristics in compact heat exchangers with circular tubes and flat tubes-plate fins. The RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ model is adopted for turbulence analysis. The numerical analysis is carried out for aspect ratios ranging from 3.06 to 5.44 and for Reynolds numbers ranging from 1,000 to 10,000. The calculated results indicate a correlation between the friction factor and Colburn j factor in the compact heat exchanger system for the range of aspect ratios under consideration. The results obtained for circular tubes and flat tubes-plate fins in this study can be utilized to realize the optimal design of an air conditioning system.

  • In this study, we propose the new color-based image retrieval technique using the representative colors of images and their ratios to a total image size obtained through color segmentation in HSV color space. Color information of an image is described by reconstructing the color histogram of an image through Gaussian modelling to its representative colors and ratios. And the similarity between two images is measured by histogram intersection. The proposed method is compared with the existing methods by performing retrieval experiments for various 1280 trademark image database.

Fracture analysis for nozzle cracks in nuclear reactor pressure vessel using FCPAS

  • This study addresses cracks and fracture problems in engineering structures that may cause significant challenges and safety concerns, with a focus on pressure vessels in nuclear power plants. Comprehensive parametric three-dimensional mixed mode fracture analyses for inclined and deflected nozzle corner cracks with various crack shape aspect ratios and depth ratios in nuclear reactor pressure vessels are carried out. Stress intensity factor (SIF) solutions are obtained using FRAC3D, which is part of Fracture and Crack Propagation Analysis System (FCPAS), employing enriched finite elements along the crack front. Also, improved empirical equations are developed to allow the determination of mixed mode SIFs, KI, KII, and KIII, for any values of the parameters considered in the study. This study provides practical solutions to assess the remaining life and fail-safe conditions of nuclear reactors by providing accurate SIF determination.

  • The e(lect of capacitance error on the A/D conversion accuracy in the A/D converter using binary-weighted capacitor array was scruntized. Besides the Monte-Carlo method considering the inter-capacitance ratios as random variables, " correlation approach" con-sidering the correlation coefficient between capacitances is proposed in this paper. Bt was observed by the measurement of capacitances of monolithic MO5 capacitors that the correla-tion coefficient between capacitors decreases as the capacitor size incrrases. It was also verified that the parallel connection of unit capacitors and the common centroid layout scheme signi(icantly increase the inter-capacitance correlation coefficients.

  • In order to reduce segregation in 12%Cr steel ingots of 60-100tons, numerical analysis by computer was applied to simulate solidification profiles and the profiles of liguid-solid coexisting zone in accordance with the ratios of H(Height) /D(diameter) of 100-ton ingot. The result is that the ratio of L(vertical length) /D(diameter) of liquid-solid coexisting zone was reduced in proportion to the decrease of H/D ratio. With the reduced H/D ratio(0.92) of ingot, the segregation in 60-ton ingot of 12% Cr steel can be much reduced and recovery was also improved by reducing ingot weight.

  • Aerodynamic characteristics of three-dimensional wings in ground effect for Aero-levitation Electric Vehicle(AEV) are numerically investigated for various fairing shapes at the junctions of 3D Wings. Numerical results show that a sizeable three-dimensional comer flow separation occurs with formation of an arch vortex at the junction of main and vertical wings, and also that this is predicted the main cause of the high lift-to-drag(L/D) reduction rate of the main wing. To avoid the comer flow separation, the main idea of this study is to reduce the cross section gradient of the comer flow tube near the trailing edge for various fairing shapes. Improvements on L/D ratios of the wings are pursued by breaking the coherence of superimposed adverse pressure gradients at the wing junction when the cross section gradient is changed slowly at the trailing edge.

  • Solution to the diffusion layer for the first order reaction at a droping mercury electrode (D.M.E.) is presented. Equations are derived for polarographic currents for the reactions at the D.M.E. A factor which is applicable to the D.M.E. is derived, when we use the equations of the polarographic currents for the reactions at a plane electrode(P.E.), and the rate constants of the backward reactions are negligibly small. Polarographic currents from a combination of diffusions and reactions are obtained at the D.M.E. with special approximation. Rate constant for the reaction of ferrous ion with hydrogen-peroxide is determined at the D.M.E.,using the data of Kolthoff and Perry. The agreement of the equation with the data of Kolthoff and Perry for the kinetic current of ferric ion in the presence of hydrogen-peroxide is good. Ratios of diffusion layer at the D.M.E. to the diffusion layer at the P.E. are discussed and show that, when the rate constants of the backward reactions for the first order reactions are larger than 1/0.05 sec-1. and drop-time about 3 sec., these ratioes are about one.

Sulfur Isotopic Ratios in Precipitation around Chonju-city, Korea and Its Availability as a Tracer of the Source of Atmospheric Pollutants (전주지역 강수의 황동위원소비와 대기오염원의 추적자로서 그 유용성)

  • In order to investigate the origin of sulfate in rain waters and to evaluate the feasibility of using sulfur isotope method as a tracer of atmospheric pollutants, the sulfur isotopic ratio of sulfate in rain waters collected in Chonju city from October 1994 to March 1995 was monitored and was compared with those of possible sources proposed by previous works. The pH of rain waters shows an intermediate acidic range from 4.45 to 6.88 and their daily variation appears to be well correlated with to the amount of precipitation. The sulfur isotopic ratios of sulfate in rain waters show a highly restricted range from 0.0 to + 1.8‰. The ${\delta}^{34}S$ values are similar to those of soil and pine tree surrounding Chonju city, but largely deviate from those of China. D-parameter($d={\delta}D-8{\delta}^{18}O$) of rain waters varies from 9.4 to 28.8. The values indicate that the rain waters in Chonju city are originated from the rainy front of China continent. All data obtained from this study suggested that sulfate in the rain waters collected in Chonju city was mainly derived from the sulfur dioxide gas emitted by the petroleum combustion. Therefore, sulfur isotopic study for the precipitation provided an excellent tool for environmental assessment in this region and for tracing the source of atmospheric pollutants.

Integration of Products and Services of Korean Firms and Innovation Policy Directions

  • The integration of products and services is being expanded in both manufacturing and service companies such as in Apple's iPod & iTunes, Amazon's Kindle, and Hyundai Motor Company's Mozen. This phenomenon has recently accelerated due to multiple factors including market change, lessening of differences in quality of products or services, the paradigm of participation and sharing, and deindustrialization and evolution toward becoming a service economy. The objective of this paper is to investigate and analyze the status and characteristics of integration of products and services in Korean firms and to suggest policy directions promoting this integration. Towards this purpose, income statements from the Korea Listed Companies Association (KLCA) database of companies listed on the Korea Stock Exchange are analyzed regarding the servitization of manufacturing firms as well as the productization of service firms. In addition, this research investigates the Korean Innovation Survey 2011 database for the service sector and 2010 database for the manufacturing sector in order to evaluate R&D activity in each. In the manufacturing sector, the average ratio of service sales (servitization) was low at 0.208, with bias in the level and distribution of ratios associated with the manufacturing sector. 18 out of a total of 23 sectors (78%) have low servitization, showing there's a long way to go for servitization in the Korean manufacturing sector. In the service sector, the average ratio of product sales (productization) was 9.53%, which is relatively high compared to that of the manufacturing sector. However, the distribution of ratios is also biased, as with the manufacturing sector. Based on this analysis, policy directions are proposed in terms of 1) R&D, 2) concept boost, 3) R&D result spread, 4) statistics, 5) infrastructure and 6) green growth.
