  • This study, in order for perceiving the mechanical attribute followed by the explosive spalling of high strength concrete material under high temperature and evaluating capacity of endurance of material, targets understanding capacity of endurance of material such as explosive spalling in high temperature, temperature by thickness of clothing, transformation extent, transformation speed and displacement, stocking the maximum load based on the Allowable Stress Design Method. As a result of experimenting the explosive spalling attribute of high strength concrete material, the one possibly causing serious damage is the 50 MPa concrete. In all aspects of 60 MPa concrete, explosive spalling happens. Especially, it is hazardous enough to reveal all the iron bar. All explosive spalling is intensively concentrated on the surface of concrete for the first $5{\sim}25$ minutes, which urges for the explosive spalling protection action. As a result of evaluating the structural safety by the transformation of high strength concrete, while beam assures the fire safety meeting regulation, 60 MPa shows the dramatic increase of transformation, which only counts 84% of safety. In a column, both the concrete exclusion and excessive explosive spalling are concentrated upper part of column, which brings about the dramatic transformation, so it only meets the 50% of safety regulation. Likewise, in 80, 100 MPa concrete which was never experimented considering the condition of domestic structural endurance stocking devices, the faster collapse is expected.

  • Recently, a high strength concrete of more than 40 MPa has been increasingly used in practice. However, use of the high strength concrete may influence on design parameters, particularly stress distribution. This is very true since the current everyday practice employs equivalent rectangular stress distribution that is derived from normal strength concrete. Subsequently, the stress distribution seems to be reevaluated and then a new distribution with new parameters needs to be suggested for the high strength concrete. For this purpose, linear and multiple regression analyses have been carried out in term of using experimental data for the high strength concrete of 40 to 80 MPa available in literatures. Accordingly, new parameters associated with the stress distribution have been proposed and employed for the design of flexural and compressive members. Comparative design examples indicate that designs with new parameters reduce section dimensions compared to those with the current code parameters for concrete strengths of 40 to 70 MPa. In particular, for compressive members, design with new parameters exhibit conservative compressive force compared to those with the current code parameters.

  • As the increase amount of high rise building, equipments for high rise building have been extensively studied. However quality problems caused as the pumping of concrete including loss of flowalility, air content and increasing of the temperature. In this study, fundamental performances of the 80 MPa concrete before·after pumping has been tested. Results showed slump flow increased after pumping temperature of concrete also increased after pumping. Results also shown air content all satisfied the target range and compressive strength of concrete increased about 20 % after pumping, All the performances satisfied the standard for 80 MPa.

  • This paper provides test results on the tension stiffening behavior of high strength concrete (HSC) members used silica fume free binder (SFFB) instead of silica fume. The objective of this study is to evaluate the capability of replacing expensive silica fume to SFFB in HSCs with compressive strength of 60 and 80MPa. Test results indicated that for two mixes of 60 and 80 MPa HSC, cracking and strength behavior of tension members, which are replaced silica fume to SFFB, showed equivalent performance to those of tension members used silica fume.

  • For high strength concrete of 40~60 MPa, the effects on the early strength and concrete dry shrinkage properties replacing 60~80% of Ordinary Portland Cement with Blast Furnace Slag Powder and using the Alkali Activator (Modified Alkali Sulfate type) are considered in this study. 1% Alkali Activator to the binder, cumulative heat of hydration for 72 hours was increased approximately 45%, indicating that heat of hydration contributes to the early strength of concrete, and the slump flow of concrete decreased slightly by 3.7~6.6%, and the 3- and 7- strength was increased by 8~12%, which that the Alkali Activator (Modified Alkali Sulfate type) is effective for ensuring the early strength when manufacturing High Strength Concrete (60%) of Blast Furnace Slag Powder. Furthermore, the dry shrinkage test, both 40 MPa and 60 MPa specimens had level of length changes in order of BS40 > BS60 > BS60A > BS80A, and the use of the Alkali Activator somewhat improved resistance to dry shrinkage.

  • Fire resistance and material properties of high-strength concrete (W/B 21.5%, 28.5%) with OPC, BS and FA were tested in this study. Main factors of the test consisted of fiber mixing ratio and W/B. Two types of fiber (NY, PP) mixed with the same weight were used for the test. The fiber mixing ratios were 0%, 0.05%, 0.1%, and 0.2% of the concrete weight. After performing the test, Under the W/B level of 21.5% and 28.5%, the spalling was effectively resisted by using the high strength concrete with fiber mixing ratios of 0.05%~0.1%. Compressive strength, flowability and air content are similar those of the fiberless high-strength concrete with the same W/B.

  • This paper aims at investigating the bending strength of high-strength concrete beams with compressive strength of 80 MPa. The experimental parameters included nominal yielding strength of rebar with 400 and 600 MPa, rebar ratio ranging from 0.98 to 1.97%, and shear span-effective depth ratios (a/d) of 6.0 and 4.8. Experimental results were discussed regarding load-deflection relationship, ductility, bending strength, and prediction of bending strength of beams. Test results indicate that the use of high-strength rebar increased bending strength but decreased ductility. As span-effective depth ratio increased, the ductility of test beams decreased. In addition, test results of bending strength were compared with predictions from the current KCI code, Eurocode 2 and Korean Highway Design Specification (KHDC). The design code predictions for bending strength underestimated the experimental results. Therefore, the current design code predictions for bending strength of high-strength concrete beams would provide conservative design. Predictions of bending strength from KCI code using strength reduction factors and those from Eurocode 2 as well as KHDC using material factors were similar each other.

  • The ultra high strength concrete classed 80 MPa for Lotte Town at pusan has many hydrated materials due to low water to binder ratio and high admixture contents and improved void structure caused by C-S-H gel corresponding to pozzolan and latent hydraulicity of FA and BS. Moreover, durability of the concrete is superior because there was no penetration of carbon dioxide, chloride and chloric ion caused by its fine internal constitution.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the strength properties of polymer concrete using recycled aggre-gate. The compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength and pulse velocity of polymer concrete were decreased with increasing the content of recycled aggregate. At the curing age of 7days, the compressive strength was $80.5\~88.3$ MPa, the splitting tensile strength was $9.1\~10.6$ MPa, the flexural strength was $19.2\~21.5$ MPa and the pulse velocity was $3,931\~4,041$ m/s, respectively. Also, the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength and pulse velocity of concrete using recycled fine aggregate were higher than that of the silica sand. Therefore, these recycled aggregate polymer concretes were estimated for high strength concrete without major problem.
