  • Handover in IEEE 802.11 requires repeated authentication and key exchange procedures, which are an obstacle to seamless services of wireless LAM. We propose a fast authentication and key exchange mechanism using IEEE 802.11f. Especially, by proposing a modified version of the 4-way handshake of IEEE 802.11i, we solve the perfect forward secrecy problem that arises when the pre-authentication is adopted. The scheme can be implemented only using the Context Block of IEEE 802.11f and the 4-way handshake of IEEE 802.11i without involving authentications server's interaction or non-standard behavior between access points. Our scheme is applicable to devices not supporting the us-authentication of IEEE 802.11i and also, it can substitute the pre-authentication when the pre-authentication is failed.

  • There is a serious problem in an 802.11g VoWLAN (Voice over Wireless LAN) terminal that talk time is less than 30% compared with an 802.11b terminal. It is almost impossible to achieve talk time level of the 802.11b MAC transmission method because IEEE 802.11g uses OFDM modulation, which is a kind of multi-carrier method and OFDM transmission speed is 54 Mbps faster than normal modulation. In this paper, a new concept of a Holdover time as a power saving method during a call with 802.11g terminal is suggested for the first time. Increase in the number of engaged terminals as a result of holdover time causes to QoS problem because of the increase in the number of back-off and then contention window. In this paper, to solve the QoS problem, a new approach is suggested such that when in down lint the sequence number of 802.11 G.711 is analyzed in the MAC of the terminal and then the Hold over time depending on loss rate is changed. Also, consumption of an electric current of 802.11b/g and MAC parameter's performance due to busy traffic caused by increase in the number of terminal are analyzed and then real data using VQT and Airopeek are analyzed.

  • Nowadays, smart devices such as smart phones, tablets PC, etc... are exchanging messages using WLAN(Wi-Fi) technologies for sending and receiving messages. With the growth of the smart devices users, the WLAN (Wi-Fi) medium communication could be loaded and then the Quality of Service is undesirable. Currently, there are five types of Wireless LAN such as802.11 a / b / g / n / ac supporting the communication between smart devices and the most used it WLAN 802.11n. Unfortunately, if the WLAN 802.11n is being used by a lot of users, there is poor Quality of Service due to the interference. In this paper, we analyze the Quality of Service provided by the 802.11n and compare with the next generation of wireless 802.11ac.

  • We develop a new wireless link quality metric, ECOT(Estimated Channel Occupancy Time) that enables a high throughput route setup in wireless mesh networks. The key feature of ECOT is to be applicable to diverse mesh network environments where IEEE 802.11 MAC (Medium Access Control) variants are used. We take into account the exact operational features of 802.11 MAC protocols, such as 802.11 DCF(Distributed Coordination Function), 802.11e EDCA(Enhanced Distributed Channel Access) with BACK (Block Acknowledgement), and 802.11n A-MPDU(Aggregate MAC Protocol Data Unit), and derive the integrated link metric based on which a high throughput end-to-end path is established. Through extensive simulation in random-topology settings, we evaluate the performance of proposed link metric and present that ECOT shows 8.5 to 354.4% throughput gain over existing link metrics.

  • In wireless network environments, as users' demands on high-speed data communications due to increase of multi-media services, the necessity of new high-speed WLAN technologies has appeared. Nowaday, IEEE is standardizing a new WLAN protocol caned as IEEE 802.11n. To effectively use wireless resources, IEEE 802.11n introduces MAC aggregation function which is similar to that in IEEE 802.11e. In case of transmitting several frames without MAC aggregation, the frames include individual frame header and trailer, and their corresponding acknowledgement frames can appear on wireless link. However, if they are aggregated into single MAC frame, we can reduce the number of used bits due to frame headers/trailers and also remove redundant acknowledgement frames. In this paper, we explain two different MAC frame aggregation methods for IEEE 802.11e and IEEE 802.11n and evaluate their throughput by simulations.

  • As quantities of the data that transmitting by the wireless are more increased, the interest and application are extending about 802.11n that uses by combination two existing 20MHz wireless LAN Channel. 802.11n use dual band of 2.4GHz band and 5.8GHz. So this is expected in mass wireless transmission method because of interference evasion effect in compliance with the radio communication of existing 2GHz neighborhood band. Like this 802.11n uses the radio as well and transmits information there is not only a possibility of undergoing an influence in radio wave environment of circumference. Specially the interior environment and outdoor environment is a possibility of saying that will be defined with each other different modeling as affects in radio communication is different. In this paper, we'll compare the influence to RF feature (802.11n) by (Indoor/Outdoor) environment difference through compared with 802.11n RF feature and Network feature in (Indoor/Outdoor) environment and also examine the correlation between RF feature and Network feature.

  • In this paper, a new coexistence mechanism between IEEE 802.15.4 and IEEE 802.11, ACROS (Active Channel Reservation for coexistence), is proposed. The key idea of ACROS is to reserve the channel for IEEE 802.15.4 transmission. During the reservation, IEEE 802.11 transmissions cannot be occurred. Request-to-send/clear-to-send mechanism of IEEE 802.11 is used to reserve channel. The proposed ACROS mechanism is implemented into PC based prototype. By the experiments, the $e{\pm}ciency$ of ACROS is proved.

  • Current IEEE 802.11 standard is very vulnerable that between the AP and STA authentication and security mechanisms is widely known. Therefore, IEEE has proposed security architecture RSN (Robust Security Network) for 802.11. RSN is used the access control, authentication, and key management based on the IEEE 802.1X standard. In this paper, IEEE 802.1X or 802.11 a combination of several models proposed for the vulnerability, and session hijacking or MiM (Man-in the-Middle) attacks to respond, the authentication mechanism Was designed to the access control between the STA and the AP.

  • The distributed coordination function (DCF) and point coordination function (PCF) protocols are the basic MAC protocols for legacy IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11e, IEEE 802.11g and IEEE 802.11n wireless LANs. When the DCF protocol is used for the various versions of IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs, the MAC performance seriously degrades due to the collisions among the stations (STAs) as more and more STAs attempt to transmit their data frames. On the other hand, the PCF MAC performance becomes poor when many STAs exist in IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs, however, only small number of STAs actually attempt to transmit their data frames. In this paper, we propose the algorithm for improving the MAC performance by selectively using the DCF and PCF protocols according to the state of IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs. Numerical examples are presented to show the MAC performance improvement by the selective use of the DCF and PCF protocols according to the network state.

  • Every MAC (Medium Access Control) sub-layers of IEEE 802.11x, including IEEE 802.11e, defines Connection-based and CF (Contention Free)-based service functions in common. In this paper, a New-CF method is proposed. In the proposed method, conventional Round Robin method, which is used as a polling method by IEEE 802.11x PCF (Point Coordination Function) or IEE 802.11e HCCA, is modified to give weights to channels with heavier traffic load and to provide those weighted channels with more services. Based on NS-2 simulations, it is verified the proposed method shows better throughput in general, particularly under unbalanced traffic load conditions.
