  • In the environment of wireless communication system of IEEE 802.15.3a UWB standard, the angle of arrival(AOA) estimation technique for the indoor wireless positioning algorithms, based on the AOA parameter estimation which fits well for the wireless communication channel and shows high estimation accuracy, is proposed. After the UWB signal model, based on the IEEE 802.1.3a standard, is constructed, the average weighted MUSIC technique is proposed, which shows better estimation accuracy than those of conventional estimation technique. Through the simulation studies, the environment of the indoor wireless positioning system including the IEEE 802.15.3a channel is configured and we demonstrate better estimation results by the proposed AOA estimation technique than those from the conventional method.

  • In IEEE 802.16 system, it is important to allocate resources appropriately in order to the efficient utilization of resources among a variety of real-time and non real-time packets. although a lot of the real-time and non real-time packet scheduling schemes in OFDMA system have been proposed, it need to be modified to apply to IEEE 802.16 system. Since IEEE 802.16 supports five kinds of service classes, it is important to take QoS constraints of these classes into consideration. In this paper, we propose a efficient scheduling scheme to support various services by considering the QoS constraints of each classes.

  • The IEEE 802.11 standard has been used for wireless data networks such as wireless LAN, ad-hoc network, and vehicular ad-hoc network. Thus, the performance analysis of the IEEE 802.11 specification has been one of the hottest issues for network optimization and resource management. Most of the analysis studies were performed in a data plane of the IEEE 802.11 unicast. However, IEEE 802.11 broadcast is widely used for topology management, path management, and data dissemination. Thus, it is important to understand the performance of the broadcast scheme for the design of efficient wireless data network. In this contort, we analyze the IEEE 802.11 broadcast scheme in terms of the broadcast frame reception probability according to the distance from a sending node. Unlike the other works, our analysis framework includes not only the system parameters of the IEEE 802.11 specification such as transmission range, data rate, minimum contention window but also the networking environments such as the number of nodes, network load, and the radio propagation environments. Therefore, our analysis framework is expected to be used for the development of protocols and algorithms in a dynamic wireless data network.

  • The existing wireless LAN standard IEEE802.11b has many vulnerabilities from security point of view. The authentication mechanisms in IEEE802.11b have many vulnerabilities. As a result to complement the weak of IEEE802.11b authentication, the IEEE802.1x had been developed in the sense of providing strong user authentication with appropriate mechanism. But this mechanism does not perform AP authentication and there are also some weak points. And in confidentiality and message Integrity case, WEP is weak from key stream reuse attack, IV reuse attack and so on. For that reason, in this paper we propose secure wireless LAN system. Our system provides strong user authentication, confidentiality, and message integrity based on existing IEEE802.1x framework and TLS.

  • This paper proposes a technique for applying space-time block coding (STBC) - Alamouti scheme on Multiple Inputs Multiple Output (MIMO) system based on IEEE 802.15.4 standard. It is applied to IEEE 802.15.4 standard in $2{\times}1$ MISO and $2{\times}2$ MIMO systems. Simulation is performed using Matlab and the results are compared with conventional IEEE 802.15.4 approaches, Single Input Single Output (SISO) system and switching diversity $1{\times}2$ Single Input Multiple Output (SIMO) system. The simulations show that applied Alamouti scheme gave better Bit Error Rate (BER) performance compared to combined IEEE 802.15.4 with switching diversity and SISO system.

  • IEEE 802.11 devices are widely used, and terminals can be equipped with multiple IEEE 802.11 interfaces as low-cost IEEE 802.11 devices are deployed. The off-the-shelf IEEE 802.11 devices provide multiple channels and multiple data rates. In practical multi-channel networks, since there is channel heterogeneity which indicates that channels have different signal characteristics for the same node, channels should be efficiently assigned to improve network capacity. In addition, in multi-rate networks, low-rate links severely degrade the performance of high-rate links on the same channel, which is known as performance anomaly. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a heterogeneity aware channel assignment (HACA) algorithm that improves network performance by reflecting channel heterogeneity and performance anomaly. Through NS-2 simulations, we validate that the HACA algorithm shows improved performance compared with existing channel assignment algorithms that do not reflect channel heterogeneity.

  • IEEE 802.15.4 reserves transmission time to support real-time transport by sending GTS request packets to the PAN coordinator in advance. This paper introduces GTS-FAT technique to reduce the reservation time by giving a higher sending priority to GTS request packets than data packets. Differently from the conventional scheme where these two kinds of packets share a single transmission queue, GTS-FAT scheme allocates two queues with two different contention window sizes like IEEE 802.11e. This paper also proposes an analytical GTS delay model by combining the two legacy models for 802.15.4 and 802.11e to accurately predict the GTS-FAT delay over a given network topology. Our analysis shows that GTS-FAT reduces GTS service delay by up to 50% at the expense of the data delay by only up to 6.1% when GTS request packets four times outnumber data packets.

  • IEEE 802.11 WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) standard is currently developing with increased wireless internet demand. Study trends of IEEE 802.11n for high throughput show two aspects, enhanced system throughput using aggregation among packets in MAC(Medium Access Control) layer, and better data rates adapting MIMO(Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) in PRY(Physical) layer. But, no one demonstrates IEEE 802.11n system performance results considering MAC and PRY connection. This paper adapts A-MPDU(Aggregation-MAC Protocol Data Unit) method in MAC layer and MIMO in PRY layer for IEEE 802.11n system. Consequently, Simulation results show enhanced throughput and data rates compared to existing system. Also, We use NS-2(Network Simulator-2) considering MAC and PRY connection for reality.

  • Efforts for standardization of medium access control (MAC) protocol in IEEE802.11e have been made to support quality of service (QoS) in IEEE802.11 MAC protocol. Enhanced distributed coordination function (EDCF) of 802.11e MAC protocol is modified to support QoS for packets that have differentiated priority. However, EDCF still has e problem of throughput optimization and priority support. Therefore, we have proposed a scheme called adaptive EDCF for both supporting priority of packets and throughput optimization. We have derived the relation between the number of nodes and contention window size for throughput optimization. Based on the analytic results, we have evaluated the performance of the proposed scheme using OPNET simulations. The simulation results show that using the proposed scheme can Improve the overall throughput regardless of the number of nodes and the decrement of the throughput with increasing the number of nodes can be alleviated. Additionally, we have shown that the adaptive EDCF can support priority of packets more effectively than existing EDCF.

  • The use of femtocells in buildings and homes has been widely studied as a means to enlarge the cell coverage and increase the network capacity of mobile communication systems. Femtocells for Mobile WiMAX (M-WiMAX) using time division duplexing (TDD) requires frame synchronization with neighboring base stations to avoid interference between uplink and downlink signals. In this paper, we propose a new frame synchronization method for femtocell using IEEE 802.11 based wireless backhaul, which transfers the time information of mobile network to femtocells via the beacon signal provided by IEEE 802.11. Also, in order to reduce timing error of the proposed method, we modify the collision avoidance scheme in the transmitter of IEEE 802.11 and apply a timing estimation technique designed in the sense of least squares to the receiver of IEEE 802.11. Through computer simulations using the proposed scheme, we evaluate the performance of frame synchronization for femtocells and show that the recovered timing information satisfies the timing specification defined by M-WiMAX standard.
