Concidering environmental education as an ultimate resolution for environmental problems, we conducted a study focusing on affective matters. An instrument was developed to evaluate attitudes of elementary and middle school students toward environmental problems. To develop a reliable Likert-type evaluation instrument scale with which emotional intensity could be judged, mean, standard deviation, response frequency distribution, discrimination index, reliability were calculated. As a result, 21 statements for recognition level and 14 statements for behavioral level were made(The Cronbach alpha coefficient of the instrument was .786). This instrument was used to evaluate 5th and 6th grade elementary school students and 1st and 2nd grade middle school students(total number of subjects was 980). The result of this survey can be summarized as follows. 1. Students recognized the seriousness of environmental problems but they did not behave in such a manner as to prevent it. 2. As a result of t-test, behavioral level score of elemenatary school students was significantly higher than that of middle school students(p<.001). 3. This study showed that there was a significant correlation between the recognition level score and the behavioral level score(r=.386, p<.001). 4. Two-Way ANOVA was used to analyze that there was any significant difference according to grade and sex. The results were as follows. (1) No significant difference was found in total score. (2) On recognition level, female students' score was signigicantly higher than that of male students(p<.01). (3) On behavioral level, higher-grade students' score was lower than that of lower-grade-students (p<.001).
Purpose: This research was conducted to compare sex-related knowledge and attitude of 6th-grade elementary school students who participated in the field based learning and those with cooperative learning methods. Methods: The data were collected from June to July in 2009. The subjects of the study were recruited from the classes of the 6th grade conveniently assigned from the D elementary school located in Daejeon metro city. Total of 60 students were assigned either to the field based learning group, and the other 60 students to the cooperative learning group. The field based learning group received sex education at the Daejean Youth Sexuality Culture Center for 3 hours. And the cooperative learning group received sex education by cooperative learning method at the classroom for 40 minutes per session, once a week, for 3 weeks. The sex-related knowledge and attitude scales developed by Lee (2004) were used. The data were analyzed by $x^2$-test, Fisher's exact test, and t-test using the SPSS/WIN V. 12.0 program. Results: The results were as follows. 1. Sex-related knowledge was not significantly different between the cooperative learning and the field based learning group. 2. Sex-related attitude was not significantly different between the cooperative learning and the field based learning group. Conclusion: In this study, sex-related knowledge and sex-related attitude of the cooperative learning group and the field based learning group were different from the lecture method groups in the earlier study. It is worthy of notice that the cooperative learning group and the field based learning group took relatively less time to improve their knowlede and attitude than the earlier lecture based group did.
This study was conducted to find the differences in the physical changes, eating habits and dietary intake by obseity index of sixth grade primary school students is Seoul. The subjests were classified into three groups, an underweight group(90% under, 12l Ug), normal group(between 90-110%, 153, NG), and obese group(110% over, 91, OG) according to WLI(Weight-Length Index)calculated with their present (6th grade) height and weight. The physical growth of the subjects was generally good, although problems of both underweight and obesity were existed together. The mean heigh growth velocity per year, weight growth velocity per year and WLI changes per year of OG were higher than those of the other groups(p〈0.01). The past physical status of the three groups were maintained from 1 st grade to sixth grade, As eating habits and lifestyles, they were not statistically significant but there were some differences among the three groups. More students of the UG disliked a certain food than those of the other groups. UG liked fried or roasted foods more(p〈0.001). NG tended to eat three meals more irregularly. OG tended to have meal times more regularly and do more regular exercise than the other groups. The dietary intakes of three groups were generally good. They were not statically significant among the three groups. With theses difference among the three groups, it is recommended to educate about unbalanced diet for the underweight group, regularity, of meals for the normal group, doing exercise for the obese for the obese group, and increasing Ca and vitamin A intake for most students, As the physical status for th lower grades have been maintained up to the sixth grade, nutrition education programs should be started at the lower grades in the elementary school.

The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the cognitive levels of 11th grade students and those required in high school chemistry I textbooks standardized by the 7th national education curriculum. For this study, the cognitive development stages of 456 11th grade students were surveyed using short-version GALT (group assessment of logical thinking). Furthermore, 15 basic concepts were extracted from the contents on water and air, 2 units in chemistry I order to analyze the cognitive levels necessary for understanding high school textbooks, using CAT (curriculum analysis taxonomy). The results showed that 52.5% of the surveyed 11th grade students reached the formal operational level, 28.3% transitional levels, and 19.5% concrete operational levels. 68.9% of the academic high school students and 6.6% of the technical high school students reached the formal operational levels, and the ratio of formation was very different in each logics. As a result of the analyzing the cognitive levels needed for understanding chemistry I textbook contents, in spite of a change in national education curriculum, there were no great change in cognitive levels required by scientific concept except some inquiry activities. The cognitive levels in high school chemistry I textbooks by the 7th national education curriculum appeared higher than the cognitive levels of 11th grade student, but cognitive levels of inquiry activities were similar to the cognitive levels of the students. Chemistry teachers thought of chemistry I textbooks by the 7th national education curriculum as desirable because scientific concepts were reduced and a lot of real life materials were adapted. However, they pointed out a problem of difference in contents levels compared with chemistry I textbooks because scientific concepts were greatly reduced in chemistry I textbooks. The cognitive levels required in chemistry I textbooks still appeared higher than those of the students. Consequently, various teaching and learning methods and materials will have to be developed to be suitable for the students' cognitive levels.

Primary students' conceptions on the atmospheric pressure and its related concepts were investigated. Samples consisted of 41 5th grade and 43 6th grade primary school students. Two types of research methods were used: 1) the open-ended written questionnare;2) paper-pencil test. Naive theories on the atmospheric pressure and its related concepts were numerous. For example, 80% students thought that as we go higher into the atmosphere, the atmospheric pressure becomes greater. Also, 50% students thought that the hot air had greater the atmospheric pressure than the cold air. This study was also discussed the teaching strategies to overcome these naive theories on the atmospheric pressure and its related concepts.

In 21 century information age, teachers have to help students' learning activities can be more self- directed learning. The web with diverse audio-visual materials and a great deal of interactions among contents shows lots of possibilities as one of the methods to provide self-directed learning environment for students. It allows learning environment for students to study more self-directed way by following individual learning styles, need, ability, etc. Although the best instructional method is personal field experience in the view of the characteristic of Practical Arts education. a web courseware can be a great substitutional method for improving learning effectiveness in relation to cost, safety, time limit for direct personal field experience. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop a web courseware for the unit 'Raising Animals' in Elementary school 6th grade Practical Art which is very difficult unit for teachers to provide direct experience environment for students. The researchers also applied the web courseware in 6th grade classrooms and described the results briefly. However, the researchers did not intend to conduct a full field implementation of the program to evaluate the program. That will be conducted in a following.

The study in this paper, which is part of a bigger study investigating non-cognitive characteristics of Korean students at the 4-12 grade levels, aims to identify the influential characteristics that explain students' decision to give up on mathematics learning. We consider seven non-cognitive student characteristics: value, interest, attitudes, external motivation, internal motivation, learning conation and efficacy. Data were collected from 21,485 Korean students, and were analyzed with a logistic regression method using SPSS. The findings show that efficacy was the most significant indicator of students' decision to give up on mathematics learning in all three grade level bands: elementary (4th-6th), middle (7th-9th) and high (10th-12th). In particular, the causal model analysis shows that students who highly value mathematics tend to have stronger internal and external motivation, which bring about stronger interest and learning conation, which in turn lead to positive attitudes and strong efficacy regarding the learning of mathematics. It was further found that while external motivation was a significant indicator of upper grade level students' decision to give up on mathematics learning, it was only a moderate indicator for lower grade level students. The findings of this study provide useful information about which non-cognitive areas need to be focused on, in what grade levels, to help students stay on track and not fall behind in learning mathematics.
The 7th national mathematics curriculum was revised in 2007. According to the revision curriculum, new texts and guides are developed and will come into effect for elementary and secondary school in 2009. Some contents are shifted and also newly added at the revision curriculum. This paper analyzed the gap between the revision and the 7th national mathematics curriculum based on the shifts in contents, and investigated on the difficulties that some graders probably will undergo owing to shifting the contents between grades. As a result, several important problems were found in some graders between the revision and the 7th national mathematics curriculum. In particular, some graders could not have a chance to learn some mathematical concepts without another lesson plans. For some graders, special lesson plans and supplementations are required. The brief summary of these supplementations as follows: ⅰ) For entering students in 2005, the supplementations about equations and direct proportion and inverse proportion should be needed at the 6th grade in 2010 or at the 7th grade in 2011. ⅱ) For entering students in 2006, the supplementations about estimations and correspondence should be needed at the 4th grade in 2009 or at the 5th grade in 2010. And the supplementations about the relation of fractions and decimals and the ratio should be needed at the 5th grade in 2010. ⅲ) For entering students in 2007, the supplementations about the addition and subtraction of time using second unit and the addition and subtraction of weight should be needed at the 3th grade in 2009 or at the 4th grade in 2010.
The purpose of this study is to test the correlation between spiritual well-being and mental health of nursing students and to provide baseline data of nursing education for the christian college. The data was collected from 10th to 30th September. 2000. The subjects were 220 nursing students. The instruments used for the study were the spiritual well-being scale developed by Paloutzian & Ellison (1982) and Gou Seong Hee's mental health (1989). The data was analyzed by using SPSS/PC. The study results were as follows: 1.There were significant differences between the type of religion (F=27.22, p=0.000), abscence of faith (F=65.33, p=0.000), grade (F=6.76, p=0.000), effect of religion on life style (F=14.21, p=0.000) and spiritual well-being. 2.There were significant differences between grade (F=4.87, p=0.009), satisfaction of nursing (F=6.47, p=0.000) and mental health. 3.There was positively significant partial correlation between spiritual well-being and mental health (r=0.52, p=0.000). The higher spiritual well-being score and the higher mental health was supported. 4.The mean score on the spiritual well-being scale was 3.48±0.64. The mean score on the mental health scale was 3.67±0.54. Viewing that, The type of religion, abscence of faith, effect of religion on life style, and grade contributed significantly in spiritual well-being for nursing students.
The purpose of this study is to draw up the promoting plan of science preference by survey and analysis of the preference for science of the elementary students. The preference for science is defined theoretically with three categories ; they are emotional response, behavioral response and value establishment. Causal factors of the science preference were composed of individual factor, educational factor and social factor. According to this theoretical model, a questionnaire was developed, and administered to 696 students of 4,5,6 grade of randomly selected eight elementary schools all over the nation. Elementary students liked science, but they didn't want to select their future job in science-technology area. The science preference of boys was higher than that of girls. The science preference of 4th grade students was higher than that of 5th and 6th grade students. Individual factor affected the curiosity. learning interest, subject accomplishment on the science and course selection in life. Educational factor not only directly affected the curiosity. learning interest, value establishment and belief of the science but also indirectly affected the individual factor and social factor. Therefore, educational factor was the most important on the science preference. Social factor only affected the value establishment and belief on the science. Elementary students wanted to team science through experiment and they wanted science to be easier than that of now. On the analysis of result, the promoting plan of the science preference was suggested.
