  • Because sulfur hexafluoride(SF6) is classified as one of the six major greenhouse gases, SF6 handling in power plant such as recovery, purification, and reuse is considered to be important. KEPCO has focused to develop the advanced recovery and purification technology of SF6 reuse. SF6 analysis includes the on-site analyses and on-line analyzer; i.e., (1) on-site analysis has an error rate of ±0.5% and (2) on-line analysis has an error rate of ±0.1%, which is possible to adjust operating conditions and to make the work more conveniently by analyzing SF6 concentration before and after purification step. This paper presents an online analysis method in the SF6 purification and reuse system. In addition, the analysis results and quality guarantees for each section of the analysis system were presented.

  • Window system is an essential component for ventilation, lighting, and thermal environment in buildings. However, window system has the lowest insulation performance and may cause high energy consumptions, if it is not properly designed. Thus, performance of window systems play an important role in built environment. This study proposes a new window systems for balcony, which has double vents and analyses the thermal performance using an intergrated simulation method with Therm 6.1 and Widow 6.1. The result shows higher U-factor than conventional window systems. It is expected that the double vent window system can increase thermal performance and save energy in apartment houses.

  • We show that Cdc6, an essential initiation factor for DNA replication, undergoes caspase-3-mediated cleavage in the early stages of apoptosis in HeLa cells and SK-HEP-1 cells induced by etoposide, paclitaxel, ginsenoside Rh2, or TRAIL. The cleavage occurs at the SEVD$\^$442//G motif and generates an N-terminal truncated Cdc6 fragment (p49-tCdc6) that lacks the carboxy-terminal nuclear export sequence (NES). Cdc6 is known to be phosphorylated by cyclin A-Cyclin A-dependent kinase 2 (Cdk2), an event that promotes its exit from the nucleus and probably blocks it from initiating inappropriate DNA replication. • The growing need for the mobility supportable networks induces the IP-based mobility management protocols. Though HMIPv6 which manages the micro-mobility of mobile nodes using MAPs suggests an effective method for mobility-support for mobile nodes within the domain that is managed by MAP. There is a problem that traffic may be concentrated on MAPs. In this paper, therefore, we proposed a method that can effectively distribute the traffic which is concentrated on a MAP under phased Mobile IPv6. In our proposed method, two or more MAPs are required and classified as an 'Active MAP' or a 'Passive MAP'. In addition, we defined the state of transition events between Active MAP and Passive MAP and the operations among MAPs for load distribution when an overload condition is occurred at some MAPs by traffic congestion. We compared the performance of our proposed method with its phased Mobile IPv6 to prove the propriety of our proposed method. As a result, we showed that our proposed method can provide an enhanced performance by about 12 percentages in view of packet throughput at the node.

  • Cuticular hydrocarbons(CHCs) of the epicuticle wax layer are so far used to differentiate the insects in species and subspecies levels. In this study, four species of malaria vectors(genus Anopheles) were collected from various localities in southern Iran. Twenty specimens of each species were randomly selected and one epicuticular extract was prepared of every five specimens. FID-GC profiles of the extracts did not show any qualitative difference. Using significant difference of CHC mass at retention time(RT) 39.6, the two species of An. sacharovi and An. fluviatilis could be distinguished. Similarly, the two species of An. superpictus & An. sacharovi and An. dthali & An. sacharovi were differentiated by their CHC level at RT 28.5. An. sacharovi was distinguished by integratable peaks at RTs 29.7, 30.6, 30.7, 31 and 32.6 while the other three species just indicated trace peaks at the same RTs. Similarly, An. dthali could be known by an integratable peak at RT 26.2 while An. fluviatilis and An. superpictus indicated trace peaks at the same RT. Integratable peaks and traces at RTs 27.4 and 28.5 were respectively used to differentiate An. superpictus from An. fluviatilis. Lastly, CHC trace amount of An. superpictus at RT 39.6 is another indicator to distinguish it from An. fluviatilis with an integratable peak at the same RT. In harmony with other studies worldwide we hereby report that quantitative analysis of CHCs was successfully applied to differentiate the four Anopheles species of southern Iran.

  • Quercitrin gallate was previously isolated from Persicaria lapathifolia (Polygonaceae) as an inhibitor of superoxide production. In the present study, quercitrin gallate was found to inhibit interleukin (IL)-6 production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated macrophages RAW 264.7 with an $IC_{50}$ value of $63\;{\mu}M$. Furthermore, quercitrin gallate attenuated LPS-induced synthesis of IL-6 transcript but also inhibited LPS-induced IL-6 promoter activity, indicating that the compound could down-regulate IL-6 expression at the transcription level. Since nuclear factor (NF)-kB has been shown to play a key role in LPS-inducible IL-6 expression, an effect of quercitrin gallate on LPS-induced NF-kB activation was further analyzed. Quercitrin gallate exhibited a dosedependent inhibitory effect on LPS-induced nuclear translocation of NF-kB without affecting inhibitory kB (IkB) degradation, and subsequently inhibited LPS-induced NF-kB transcriptional activity in macrophages RAW 264.7. Taken together, quercitrin gallate down-regulated LPS-induced IL-6 expression by inhibiting NF-kB activation, which could provide a pharmacological potential of the compound in IL-6-related immune and inflammatory diseases.

  • Wood deterioration experiments were carried out for 6 months in an intertidal zone of South Korea to monitor the changes in the chemical properties of two types of species, Korean red pine and sawtooth oak. The results of FT-IR spectra and XRD patterns have shown that the chemical properties of the wood did not change significantly during the 6-month burial period. However, the brightness of the surface decreased after burial; the value of the sawtooth oak sample was lower than that of the Korean red pine sample owing to an accumulation of inorganic compounds in cell lumen as observed by ICP analysis. Among the inorganic compounds, sodium and sulfur concentrations increased significantly over the burial period compared with the control. Further, the maximum moisture content decreased from 199% to 136% in the Korean red pine and 62% to 60% for the sawtooth oak. Nevertheless, the major chemical composition of both the wood species did not change significantly during the 6-month burial period, whereas, the crystallinity decreased with an increasing burial period owing to an accumulation of inorganic compounds in the lumen.

  • $p70^{s6k}$ lies on a $p21^{ras}$-independent signalling pathway and plays an important role in mitogenesis. Activation is associated with phosphorylation at multiple sites, four of which lie in an autoinhibitory region. The immunosuppressant rapamycin induces $p70^{s6k}$ inactivation through dephosphorylation of a second set of mitogen-induced sites. Here we identify these sites as $T_{229}$, $T_{389}$, and $S_{404}$. $T_{229}$ resides in the "T loop" of the catalytic domain, an essential phosphorylation site in other kinases. However, $p70^{s6k}$ inactivation by rapamycin most closely parallels $T_{389}$ dephosphorylation. Mutation of $T_{389}$ to alanine ablates kinase activity, whereas mutation to glutamic acid confers constitutive kinase activity and rapamycin resistance. indicating an essential role for phosphorylation at this site. $T_{389}$ resides in an unusual hydrophobic motif, not previously noted, between the catalytic and autoinhibitory domains. The importance of this site, and surrounding motif, is emphasized by its conservation in other kinases including homologues of $p70^{s6k}$ derived from such distantly related organisms as yeast and plant.
