ON THE CONVOLUTION OF EXPONENTIAL DISTRIBUTIONS

  • The distribution of the sum of n independent random variables having exponential distributions with different parameters ${\beta}_i$ ($i=1,2,{\ldots},n$) is given in [2], [3], [4] and [6]. In [1], by using Laplace transform, Jasiulewicz and Kordecki generalized the results obtained by Sen and Balakrishnan in [6] and established a formula for the distribution of this sum without conditions on the parameters ${\beta}_i$. The aim of this note is to present a method to find the distribution of the sum of n independent exponentially distributed random variables with different parameters. Our method can also be used to handle the case when all ${\beta}_i$ are the same.

Structure of Cholesteryl Crotylcarbonate (Cholesteryl Crotylcarbonate의 구조)

  • The crystal of cholesteryl crotylcarbonate was investigated by X-ray diffraction method. Crystallographic data for the title compound: P21, a=13.510(2)Å, b=11.843(2)Å, c=19.882(2)Å, β=106.88(1)°, Z=4. Reflections were collected with an Enraf-Nonius CAD-4 diffractometer equipped with a graphite monochromator. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by least-squares analyses. The final R value was 0.125 for 2607 reflections. The cholesterol fragment of the title compound were in good agreement with those for related cholesterol derivatives. The molecules were stacked in clearly separated layers. At the center of the layers, there were cholesteryl-cholesteryl interactions between the symmetry-related B molecules and the cholesteryl-C(17) side chain of A molecules. There were also interactions between the C(17) side chain of B molecules and the crotylcarbonate chain in the interface region between layers. The crystal structure of the title compound turned out to be isostructural with those of cholesteryl ethylcarbonate and cholesteryl propylcarbonate.

  • Fuel cell is a modular, high efficient and environmentally energy conversion device, it has become a promising option to replace the conventional fossil fuel based electric power plants. The high temperature fuel cell has conspicuous feature and high potential in being used as an energy converter of various fuel to electricity and heat. And, The research and development for the solid oxide fuel cell have been promoted rapidly and extensively in recent years, because of their high efficiency and future potential. Therefore this paper describes the manufacturing method and characteristics of anode electrode for solid oxide fuel cell, by the way, Ni-YSZ materials are used as anode of high temperature widely. So in this experiments, we investigated the optimum content of Ni, by the impedance characteristics, overvoltage. As a result, the performance of Ni-YSZ anode(40vol%) was better excellent than the others.

A Study on the Analysis of Surface Heat Flux Using the Transient Heat Flux Method (비정상열유속 기법을 이용한 표면 열유속 해석에 관한 연구)

  • The quick variation of the canister wall temperature causes the modification of the shape of canister wall. This paper is the possibility of adoption and the error analysis about the transient heat flux method. The commercial code(Fluent Ver6.2.16) was employed for the calculation of surface temperature in the case of steady and unsteady heat flux condition. Based the surface temperature variation and surface material property, transient heat flux method can calculate the surface heat flux. In the case of steady heat flux condition, the error is about 2%, and in the case of unsteady heat flux condition, the error is about 3.6%. With the unsteady heat flux condition, the time which reach the maximum surface heat flux is almost same between the numerical analysis and transient heat flux method.

  • This paper analyzes the performance of voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) services in terms of the system throughput, the packet delay, and the signaling overhead in a mobile WiMAX system with a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) mechanism. Furthermore, a queueing analytical model is developed with due consideration of adaptive modulation and coding, the signaling overhead, and the retransmissions of erroneous packets. The arrival process is modeled as the sum of the arrival rate at the initial transmission queue and the retransmission queue, respectively. The service rate is calculated by taking the HARQ retransmissions into consideration. This paper also evaluates the performance of VoIP services in a mobile WiMAX system with and without persistent allocation; persistent allocation is a technique used to reduce the signaling overhead for connections with a periodic traffic pattern and a relatively fixed payload. As shown in the simulation results, the HARQ mechanism increases the system throughput as well as the signaling overhead and the packet delay.

  • In this paper, a new high-powerfactor control method for boost-type rectifier is proposed, which removes the necessity of input current sensing. This method generates a sinewave duty template only from the line voltage waveform and rectifier output, and reduces reactive power remarkably utilizing three compensation coefficients which are determined through experiments. These compensations make the input current to be in phase with the input voltage all over the load range. A prototype boost-type rectifier is designed and experimental results are presented.

  • In this paper, electrostatically actuated direct contact type RF MEMS switches have been designed and demonstrated. As driving structures of the switch, cantilever, bridge, and torsion spring beam structures are used and the actuation voltage characteristics of the switches have been compared and discussed. The designed RF switches are fabricated with the surface micromachining technology using the electroplated gold and nickel structures. The characteristics of the fabricated switches are measured and analyzed. The switch, which is fabricated using the 510 ${\mu}m$-length bridge structure with the thickness of 1.5 ${\mu}m$, is actuated with 15 V driving voltage. The insertion losses are less than 0.2 dB over the measured frequency ranges from 0 to 20 GHz and the isolations are more than 30 dB.

  • 이 논문은 디지털 TV 송신기의 구성 시스템 중 하나인 HPA 서브시스템(이하 HPA 시스템이라고 함)을 구현하는 구현 기술에 대하여 기술한다. HPA 시스템은 레벨 제어부, HPA 모듈, 고출력 결합기, 여파기, HPA 감시, 경보 및 제어 시스템으로 구성되어 있다. 이를 구현하기 위해서 전력레벨을 설계하고, 각 레벨에 맞는 4Wpeak, 30Wpeak, 125Wpeak 단위 증폭기를 설계, 제작 시험하였으며, 이들 단위 증폭기를 전력 분배기/결합기를 이용하여 결합하여 600Wpeak급 HPA 모듈을 제작하였다. 자체 제작한 HPA 모듈과 상용 부품을 이용하여 HPA 서브시스템을 구성하였으며, 현장시험을 통하여 그 성능을 입증하였다. 개발한 HPA 시스템은 동작주파수 470MHz-510MHz, 최대출력 1.6kWpeak, 이득 60dB 이상, 채널내 이득 평탄도 0.6dB 이하, 입력 반사손실 -l8dB이하이며, IMD는 3dB back-off시 -35dB이하이다

Effects of anisotropy and curvature on free vibration characteristics of laminated composite cylindrical shallow shells

  • This paper presents effects of anisotropy and curvature on free vibration characteristics of cross-ply laminated composite cylindrical shallow shells. Shallow shells have been considered for different lamination thickness, radius of curvature and elasticity ratio. First, kinematic relations of strains and deformation have been showed. Then, using Hamilton's principle, governing differential equations have been obtained for a general curved shell. In the next step, stress-strain relation for laminated, cross-ply composite shells has been given. By using some simplifications and assuming Fourier series as a displacement field, differential equations are solved by matrix algebra for shallow shells. The results obtained by this solution have been given tables and graphs. The comparisons made with the literature and finite element program (ANSYS).

Finite element analysis of elastic property of concrete composites with ITZ

  • For better estimation of elastic property of concrete composites, the effect of Interfacial Transition Zone (ITZ) has been found to be significant. Numerical concrete composites models have been introduced using Finite Element Method (FEM), where ITZ is modeled as a thin shell surrounding aggregate. Therefore, difficulties arise from the mesh generation. In this study, a numerical concrete composites model in 3D based on FEM and random unit cell method is proposed to calculate elastic modulus of concrete composites with ITZ. The validity of the model has been verified by comparing the calculated elastic modulus with those obtained from other analytical and numerical models.
