The antioxidant ability of 80% ethanolic extract of nutmeg seed (NM80) was evaluated using in vitro assays and bulk oil and oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion matrices. The 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) cation radical scavenging, and oxygen radical antioxidant capacity (ORAC) in vitro assays were used to evaluate the antioxidant ability of the extract. The DPPH radical scavenging activities of 25, 50, 100, and 200 ㎍/mL NM80 were 12.5, 20.9, 35.1, and 62.8%, respectively, while the ABTS cation radical scavenging activities were 2.7, 6.5, 30.5, and 29.8%, respectively, demonstrating a dose-dependent effect. The ORAC value was significantly higher at an NM80 concentration of 25 ㎍/mL than the positive control (p<0.05). The conjugated dienoic acid (CDA), ρ-anisidine, and tertiary butyl alcohol values in 90-min-heated corn oil containing 200 ppm of NM80 were significantly reduced by 3.26, 16.94, and 17.34%, respectively, compared to those for the sample without NM80 (p<0.05). However, the headspace oxygen content and CDA value in the O/W emulsion containing 200 ppm of NM80 at 60℃ had 6.29 and 82.85% lower values, respectively, than those for the sample without NM80 (p<0.05). The major volatile compounds of NM80 were allyl phenoxyacetate, eugenol acetate, and eugenol. NM80 could be an effective natural antioxidant in lipid-rich foods in bulk oil or O/W emulsion matrix.

In this study, the leaf Na content prediction model for spring potato was established using 400-1000 nm hyperspectral sensor to develop the multispectral sensor for the salinity monitoring in reclaimed land. The irrigation conditions were standard, drought, and salinity (2, 4, 8 dS/m), and the irrigation amount was calculated based on the amount of evaporation. The leaves' Na contents were measured 1st and 2nd weeks after starting irrigation in the vegetative, tuber formative, and tuber growing periods, respectively. The reflectance of the leaves was converted from 5 nm to 10 nm, 25 nm, and 50 nm of FWHM (full width at half maximum) based on the 10 nm wavelength intervals. Using the variance importance in projections of partial least square regression(PLSR-VIP), ten band ratios were selected as the variables to predict salinity damage levels with Na content of spring potato leaves. The MLR(Multiple linear regression) models were estimated by removing the band ratios one by one in the order of the lowest weight among the ten band ratios. The performance of models was compared by not only R2, MAPE but also the number of band ratios, optimal FWHM to develop the compact multispectral sensor. It was an advantage to use 25 nm of FWHM to predict the amount of Na in leaves for spring potatoes during the 1st and 2nd weeks vegetative and tuber formative periods and 2 weeks tuber growing periods. The selected bandpass filters were 15 bands and mainly in red and red-edge regions such as 430/440, 490/500, 500/510, 550/560, 570/580, 590/600, 640/650, 650/660, 670/680, 680/690, 690/700, 700/710, 710/720, 720/730, 730/740 nm.
We propose a wavelength filter based on long-range surface plasmon-polaritons (LR-SPP) supported by a asymmetric doubleelectrode LR-SPP structure. For the case of the asymmetric double-layered LR-SPP waveguide, LR-SPPs exist with a much broader range of index mismatches between core and clad materials. Thus, the asymmetric double-electrode LR-SPP waveguide is adequate to form a plasmonic band-gap device as we report in this paper by studying Bragg-reflection wavelength filter based on it. The structure for wavelength filter operating telecommunications wavelength is designed by using the method of line (MoL) and the transfer matrix method. The fabricated device shows a relatively high extinction ratio of 50 dB with a bandwidth of 2 nm, and the performance is very consistent with numerical simulations.

Waterborne polyurethane dispersion (PUD) was synthesized by capping the NCO groups of polyurethane prepolymers, prepared from isophorone diisocyanate, polycarbonate diol and dimethylol propionic acid, with aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APS). Subsequently, silylated acrylic polyurethane dispersion was synthesized by reacting the PUD with the mixture of acrylate monomers, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate. The average particle size of silylated acrylic polyurethane dispersion, measured by the dynamic light scattering method, was increased from 39.0 nm to 399.8 nm by increasing the addition amounts of APS. Also, the pencil hardness of coating films of silylated acrylic polyurethane dispersion was enhanced from B grade to F grade with increasing APS content.

$BiNbO_4:RE^{3+}$ (RE = Dy, Eu, Sm, Tb) phosphors were prepared by solid-state reaction at $1100^{\circ}C$ and their structural, photoluminescent, and morphological properties were investigated. XRD patterns exhibited that all the synthesized phosphors exhibited a triclinic system with a dominant (210) diffraction peak, irrespective of the type of activator ions. The surface morphologies of rare-earth-ion-doped $BiNbO_4$ phosphors were found to depend strongly on the type of activator ions. The $Eu^{3+}$ and $Dy^{3+}$ doped $BiNbO_4$ phosphors revealed a strong red (613 nm) emission resulting from the $^5D_0{\rightarrow}^7F_2$ transition of $Eu^{3+}$ and a dominant yellow (575 nm) emission originating from the $^4F_{9/2}{\rightarrow}^6H_{13/2}$ transition of $Dy^{3+}$ respectively, which were the electric dipole transitions, indicating that the activator ions occupy sites of non-inversion symmetry in the $BiNbO_4$ phosphor. The main reddish-orange emission spectra of $Sm^{3+}$-doped $BiNbO_4$ phosphors were due to the $^4G_{5/2}{\rightarrow}^6H_{7/2}$ (607 nm) magnetic dipole transition, indicating that the $Sm^{3+}$ ions were located at inversion symmetry sites in the $BiNbO_4$ host lattice. As for $Tb^{3+}$-doped phosphors, green emission was obtained under excitation at 353 nm and its CIE chromaticity coordinates were (0.274, 0.376). These results suggest that multicolor emission can be achieved by changing the type of activator ions incorporated into the $BiNbO_4$ host crystal.
In order to develope bioactive substances, dried fmit body of Daedalea dickinsii collected from Taeback mountain was extracted with ethanol, The compounds 1 and 2 were purified by solvent extraction, silica gel column chromatography and recrystallization from the ethanol extracts. Melting point, molecular weight and molar extinction coefficient of the compound 1 were estimated to be $167{\sim}168^{\circ}C$, 572 and 5,040 at 208 nm. The structure of this compound 1 has been elucidated to be 24S, 25S, $3{\alpha}-carboxyacetylquercinic$ acid using spectroscopic properties. This compound showed antibiotic activities against fungi, yeasts and bacteria and it also showed anticancer activity $IC_{50}=64.5\;{\mu}M$) against Korean stomach cancer cell. Melting point, molecular weight and molar extinction coefficient of the compound 2 were estimated to be $233{\sim}235^<\circ}$, 572 and 5,080 at 208 nm. The structure of this compound was elucidated to be 24S, 25R, $3{\alpha}-carboxyacetylquercinic$ acid. The compound 2 showed different antibiotic activities with the compound 1.

The transparent conducting thin film of ATO (antimony-doped tin oxide) was successfully fabricated on$SiO_2$/glass substrate by a sol-gel dip coating method. The crystalline phase of the ATO thin film was identified as SnO$_2$ major phase and the film thickness was about 100 nm/layer at the withdrawal speed of 50 mm/minute. Optical transmittance and electrical resistivity of the 400 nm-thick ATO thin film which was annealed under nitrogen atmosphere were 84% and $5.0\times 10^{-3}\Omega \textrm{cm}$, respectively. It was found that the $SiO_2$ layer inhibited Na ion diffusion and the formation of impurities like $Na_2SnO_3$ or SnO while increasing Sb ion concentration and higher ratio of $Sb^{5+}/Sb^{3+}$in the film. Annealing at nitrogen atmosphere leads to the reduction of $Sn^{4+}$ as well as $Sb^{5+}$ resulting in decrease of the electrical resistivity of the film.
A broadband optical coupler with a broad bandwidth of 1000 nm based on a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is investigated. The PCF has 6 layers of air hole structures and a diameter of $130{\mu}m$. The PCF-based coupler is fabricated by using a fused biconical tapering method based on heating and elongation processes. Changing temperature and an elongation length can control the bandwidth and the bandedge wavelength of the PCF-based broadband coupler. The diameter of the fused region in the PCF-based coupler was measured to be $23{\mu}m$. The fabricated PCF-based coupler has a nearly-flat coupling ration of 3-dB in a broad bandwidth of 1000 nm, which is wider than that of the previously reported PCF-based coupler and that of the single-modefiber-based coupler. Since the resolution of optical coherence tomography system is proportional to the bandwidths of both an optical light sources and an interferometer, the fabricated PCF-based broadband optical coupler has a great potential for realization of a broadband interferogram.

Optical phase conjugation combining with dispersion management (DM) is promising technique to compensate for signal distortion due to group velocity dispersion (GVD) and nonlinear Kerr effects in optical communication systems. However the fixed residual dispersion per span (RDPS) usually used in the optical links with OPC and DM restricts the flexible link configuration. In this paper, OPC links combining DM of the randomly distributed RDPS is proposed for implementing the flexible optical transmission network. It is confirmed that the excellent compensation in the optical links with the randomly distributed RDPS is obtained, limiting the launch power of WDM channels to the relatively low. It is also confirmed that the relatively high launch power WDM channels are effectively transmitted through the optical links with the randomly distributed RDPS of averaged 50 - 100 ps/nm.
