  • A factorial experiment was conducted to assess nutrient utilization by growing lambs maintained on three levels each of digestible energy (high: HE, medium: ME, low: LE) and protein (high: HP, medium: MP, low: LP) in nine combinations (HEHP, HEMP, HELP, MEHP, MEMP, MELP, LEHP, LEMP, LELP). The experiment was conducted during the hot season in a semiarid location. Daily dry matter intake (DMI) was similar in all the groups in terms of unit body weight or metabolic body size. Digestibility of DM and nitrogen free extract increased (p<0.01) from low to medium and high energy regimen while the CF digestibility followed a reverse trend. The digestibility of crude protein (CP) decreased from high to medium and low protein regimens while it was similar in terms of energy variation. Nitrogen intake was higher in high followed by medium and low protein regime while fecal and urinary nitrogen loss were similar in all the treatment groups. Lambs in all the three levels of protein were in positive N balance and percent N retention was higher (p<0.01) in high followed by medium and low protein levels whereas it was similar in terms of energy variation. Initial body weight was similar in all the groups while final weight, total gain in the experiment and average daily gain (ADG) were higher in high than medium and low energy regimens. It is concluded that crossbred lambs required 75.1 g DM, 9.6 g CP, 6.3 g DCP and 711 KJ DE/kg W $^{0.75}$or 11.0 g CP/MJ DE or 7.2 g DCP/MJ DE for 93 g average daily gain in a hot semiarid environment.

  • Skeletal relapse is known as a complication following orthognathic surgery of mandibular prognathism and occurring during intermaxillary fixation period. Therefore relapse of teeth and skeleton during intermaxillary fixation period is considered as a important problem of orthognathic surgery. In this study, cephalolateral radiographs taken at pre-operation, immediate post-operation and after release of intermaxillary fixation were measured for evaluation of dental and skeletal relapse in 30 cases. The cases were classified as screw fixation group and plate fixation group, then we compared magnitude of dental and skeletal changes of each group. The results were as follows 1. The $\underline{1}$ SN angle increased at immediate post-operation with a mean value of $0.12^{\circ}$ and at intermaxillary fixation period with a mean value of $0.43^{\circ}$ (p>0.05). 2. The $\overline{1}$ MP angle decreased with a mean value of $0.14^{\circ} at immediate post-operation and with a mean value of $1.28^{\circ} during intermaxillary fixation period but there were not significant difference(p>0.05). 3. There were not significant difference in magnitude of dental position changes between screw fixation group and plate fixation group(p>0.05). 4. Gonial angle increased with a mean value of $0.62^{\circ} during intermaxillary fixation period. Each group showed changes of gonial angle during intermaxillary fixation period but there were not significant difference(p>0.05).

  • The genus Spirometra belongs to the family Diphyllobothriidae and order Pseudophyllidea, and includes intestinal parasites of cats and dogs. In this study, a plerocercoid labeled as Spirometra mansonoides from the USA was examined for species identification and phylogenetic analysis using 2 complete mitochondrial genes, cytochrome c oxidase I (cox1) and NADH dehydrogenase subunit 3 (nad3). The cox1 sequences (1,566 bp) of the plerocercoid specimen (USA) showed 99.2% similarity to the reference sequences of the plerocercoid of Korean Spirometra decipiens (GenBank no. KJ599679), and 99.1% similarity in regard to nad3 (346 bp). Phylogenetic tree topologies generated using 4 analytical methods were identical and showed high confidence levels with bootstrap values of 1.00, 100%, 100%, and 100% for Bayesian inference (BI), maximum-likelihood (ML), neighbor-joining (NJ), and maximum parsimony (MP) methods, respectively. Representatives of Diphyllobothrium and Spirometra species formed a monophyletic group, and the sister-genera status between these species was well supported. Trapezoic proglottids in the posterior 1/5 region of an adult worm obtained from an experimentally infected cat were morphologically examined. The outer uterine loop of the uterus coiling characteristically consisted of 2 complete turns. The results clearly indicated that the examined Spirometra specimen from the USA matched to S. decipiens very well, and indicated possible presence of the life cycle of this species in this region.

  • Yin Yang theory is the first and the last one to interpret diseases apply to treatment in oriental medicine. So it is regarded as the way of heaven and earth, the discipline of all things, the origin of change, the beginning of giving birth and death, the source of spirit. These regulatory passages are needed to compare with western medical physiology and analyzed whether it has scientific bases or not. The Yin Yang theory of traditional oriental medicine are summerized from the descriptions of Scripture of Documents, Ying Wei theory of Huangdi Neijing. Meanwhile up-to-date neurobiological and molecular genetic theories on circadian physiology are reviewed in western medicine. Sunshine is transferred through RGC to SCN, herein the central circadian rhythm is made by zeitgeber and interaction of melatonin secreted from pineal body and orexin from mp pan of hypothalamus. So HPA axis is activated and controlled under the circadian rhythm and affects peripheral tissues and cells of whole body through glucocorticoid hormones. First of all, the circadian rhythm makes the basic patterns of human life in biological and sociological meaning. It is almost same context with the record of the Scripture of Documents. Also the Ying Qi and Wei Qi is basically same with the sleep-awake mechanism, that is melatonin/orexin signal or per/clk/bmal/cry genes with circadian activation and activity of each organ's physiological function. Conclusively it can be said that Yin Yang is a priori principle of living things and the beginning of giving birth and death for activation of them biologically, as is described in Huangdi Neijing.

  • Purpose. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and evaluate discovery layer search tools for retrieval of legal information in Indian law libraries. This paper covers current practices in legal information retrieval with special reference to Indian academic law libraries, and analyses its importance in the domain of law.Design/Methodology/Approach. A web survey and observational study method are used to collect the data. Data related to the discovery tools were collected using email and further discussion held with the discovery layer/ tool /product developers and their representatives.Findings. Results show that most of the Indian law libraries are subscribing to bundles of legal information resources such as Hein Online, JSTOR, LexisNexis Academic, Manupatra, Westlaw India, SCC web, AIR Online (CDROM), and so on. International legal and academic resources are compatible with discovery tools because they support various standards related to online publishing and dissemination such as OAI/PMH, Open URL, MARC21, and Z39.50, but Indian legal resources such as Manupatra, Air, and SCC are not compatible with the discovery layers. The central index is one of the important components in a discovery search interface, and discovery layer services/tools could be useful for Indian law libraries also if they can include multiple legal and academic resources in their central index. But present practices and observations reveal that discovery layers are not providing facility to cover legal information resources. Therefore, in the present form, discovery tools are not very useful; they are an incomplete and half solution for Indian libraries because all available Indian legal resources available in the law libraries are not covered.Originality/Value. Very limited research or published literature is available in the area of discovery layers and their compatibility with legal information resources.

  • In recent years, the demand for portable digital devices such as cellular phone, digital camera, and MP3 player has been largely increased. To meet the requirements of such portable applications the information storage devices with smaller size, higher capacity, and lower power consumption are needed. A small form factor (SFF) HDD using a load/unload (L/UL) system is one of the appropriate alternatives to satisfy these requirements. Due to complexity of L/UL process and mechanism, it is required to investigate for better understanding the effects of design parameters. Among the various design parameters, flexible cable and friction force on the L/UL ramp become important to the dynamic characteristics of L/UL process as the system is miniaturized. The program for L/UL simulation which considers the effect of flexible cable and L/UL ramp is needed. Unfortunately, there is hardly any commercial program for the L/UL simulation except the Computer Mechanics Laboratory (CML) air bearing design program and the CML L/UL simulation code. Furthermore, the design parameters such as flexible cable and the L/UL ramp are not considered in the CML L/UL simulation code. So we embody the L/UL simulation considering flexible cable and an L/UL ramp by using the ANSYS/LS-DYNA. In this thesis, the effects of flexible cable and friction force on the dynamic characteristics and the performances of the L/UL process are studied. Numerical simulation and related experiments are carried out and compared each other.

  • The ignition noises from the vehicle are measured and the measurement data are statistically treated for modeling. The low-noise amplifier and band-pass filter are added between the receiver and the three axes antenna for low noise level measurement and the APD and PSD are measured in 800 MHz frequency range. The measured APD curves can be expressed in terms of sensitivity study of each model through 3(class A) or 6(Class B) parameters variation, and these optimal parameter can easily be calculated by using the Composite Approximation Algorithm. The selected APD parameter can be used for making the Data Base EM-environments and also applied to determine the output and sensitivity margin for the transmitter and receiver. 'Digital microwave transmission systems are equipped with equalizer against fading during multipath fading. In this paper, we proposed variable reference tap position equalizer that varies the reference tap according to fading type to archive better performance. We got the perf?mance improvement about 4~5 dB in MP condition and 2~3 dB in NMP condition from simulation results.

  • Since the high quality digital TV systems are broadly deployed in the market, the digital video contents will be edited and distributed in MPEG-2 MP@HL fonnat. Due to its impressive coding efficiency, the H.264/AVC codec has rapidly replaced the MPEG-4 SP codec for mobile digital video terminal with low quality. For the bro ad distribution of digitial video contents produced in MPEG-2 format, the MPEG-2 to H.264/AVC transcoding is highly necessary nowadays. In this paper, we propose a fast intra MB prediction mode decision method to reduce the computational complexity in the transcoding, which is the main bottleneck in the transcoders. The proposed method is based on the several relationships such as DCT coefficients and edge orientation, correlation between prediction directions in the $Intra16{\times}16$ and $Intra4{\times}4$ modes, correlation between edge-orientations of luminance an d chrominance components. The simulation results show that the proposed method can reduce the computational complexity upto 70% and 40%, compared with the cascaded transcoder and the well-known fast intraframe transc oder, respectively.

  • One of the main purposes of the marine gyrocompass follow-up system is to preserve the sensitive part from the wandering error due to the frictional or torsional torque around the vertical axis. This error can be diminished through the rapid follow-up action, which minimizes the relative azimuthal angular displacement between the sensitive and follow-up parts and shortens the duration of the same displacement. But an excessive rapidity of the follow-up action would result in a sustained oscillation to the system. Therefore, to design a new type of the follow-up system, the theoretical annlysis of the problems concerned should be studied systematically by introducing the control theory. This paper suggest a concrete procedure for the optimal adjustment of the gyrocompass follow-up system, utilizing the mathematic model and the stability informations formerly investiaged by the author. For theoptimal determination of the adjustable paramfter K, the performance index(P.I.), ITSE(Intergral of the Time multiplied by the Squared Error) is proposed, namely, P.I. = $\int_{0}^{\infty} t \cdot e^{2}(t)dt$ where t is time and e(t) means control error. Then, the optimal parameter minimizing the performance index is calculated by means of Parseval's theorem and numerical computation, and the validity of the obtained optimal value of the parameter Ka is examined and confirmed through the simulations and experiments. By using, the proposed method, the optimal adjustment can be performed deterministically. But, this can not be expected in the conventional frequency domain analysis. While the Mps of the original system vary to the extent of from 0.98 to 46.27, Mp of the optimal system is evaluated as 1.1 which satisfies the generally accepted frequency domain specification.
