  • This study includes a case study among plastic process manufacturing companies, based on which, the currently used 4M method is applied in terms of machine, media, man, and management, to conduct quantitative risk evaluation, and thus to contribute to reducing human and material loss as well as preventing accidents in industrial fields. The result of this study is analyzed based on the 4M-risk assessment to find out the hazardous risk elements, and the quantitative evaluation made it predictable the value of risk(frequency $\times$ intensity) in such classified levels as serious risk, critical risk, and intolerable risk. Further, Among the businesses with hazardous risk elements and high frequency of industrial disaster, risk analysis was conducted for each process, and as a result, 38 cases among 76, including those of serious risk, critical risk, and intolerable risk, were improved, and the risk was reduced. Besides, it is thought that with the engineering approach with 4M-Risk Assessment, the attempt to improve safety level contributes to prevention of accidents.

  • In an attempt to obtain intersubgeneric somatic hybrids of Pelargonium aridum and P.zonale, protoplast isolated from the two species were fused by using polyethylene glycol(PEG) and electorfusion methods. Protoplast were isolated from cotyledon and leaf tissues using MS medium containing 550 mM sucrose, 0.7% cellulase (Onozuka R-10) and 0.4% Macerozyme. The optimum number of protoplasts per mL of culture medium was 6 x 10$^4$. Protoplast fused by the electrofusion method were more active than by PEG method. Heterokaryotically fused protoplasts formed calli when cultured in MS medium containing 550 mM glucose, 1 to 2 mg/L NAA and 0.5 to 1 mg/L BA.

  • In this paper, using the binary (N,M,L,1) low correlation zone(LCZ) sequence set with specific property, we propose the construction method of a quaternary LCZ sequence set with parameters (2N,2M,L,2). The binary LCZ sequence using this method must have period $N{\equiv}3$ mod 4, balance property, and specific correlation property. The proposed method is modified from the construction method of binary LCZ sequence set by using binary LCZ sequence with specific condition proposed by Kim, Jang, No, and Chung[4].

  • There are many functional methods for estimating the mean axis of rotation of a joint. However, it is still a controversial issue which method is superior. The purpose of this study was to compare functional methods for estimated axes of rotation from synthetic data. The comparison was made in terms of suitabilities on describing humans in sports. For a more practical situation, the axis error as well as measurement and marker movement error were applied to generated data. Simulations having 1000 times of 80 rotational displacements were performed. The functional methods used in the study were two transformation methods, two fitting methods, and one more transformation method called M. The M method is a combination of S$\ddot{o}$derk & Wedin(1993) and Mardia & Jupp(2000). Another factor of the study was angular velocity with levels of .01, .025, .05, .5 and 1 rad/s. The method M resulted in unbiased, stable, and consistent axis of rotation vectors in all levels of angular velocity except .01 rad/s. Therefore, the method M had the highest validity and reliability of all the methods. The fitting methods were very sensitive in small angular velocities and stable only in the velocities of more than .5 rad/s. The most suitable method for analyzing human motion by using marker photogrammetry is M.

  • 1,4-Dioxane is used as a solvent for lacquers, paints, varnish removers, dye baths and printing compositions. And it is also used for detergent preparations, cosmetics, deodorants and fumigants. A method is described for the determination of 1,4-dioxane in water samples by GC/MS. The extraction recoveries were studied for some solvents and solvent volume ratio were investigated using r-butyl methyl ether (MTBE). Optimum condition was obtained by the liquid-liquid extraction using the 10 mL of MTBE for 10 mL of water. Method detection limit of 1,4-dioxane in the 20 mL of water samples was 0.05 ng/mL. It could be determined in the range of 0.24∼240 ng/mL in treated water, and in the range of 0.69∼81.9 ng/mL in raw water, respectively. Risk assessments with 1,4-dioxane exposure by drinking water ingestion were carried out. Based on the results of analysis, chronic daily intake of 1,4-dioxane was 2.22${\times}$10$\^$-4/ mg/kg/day and excess cancer risk was calcu-lated to be 2.44${\times}$10$\^$-6/.

  • This study was performed to evaluate methods for determination of airbone mercury in industrial environments. Three methods, such as Hopcalite method, passive monitoring method and Jerome method were evaluated at two (2) fluorescent lamp manufacturing Plants in Korea during a period from May 24 to May 31, 1994 and the result are as follows: 1. The average were concentrations of airbone mercury were $26{\mu}g/m^3$ by Hopcalite method, $25{\mu}g/m^3$ by passive monitoring method, and $38{\mu}g/m^3$ by the Jerome method, respectively, which were below the permissible exposure limit of $50{\mu}g/m^3$ established by both the Korean Ministry of Labor and ACGIH. However, 12 out of 49 cases(24.4%) in plant A and 2 out of 31 cases(6.5%) in plant B were in excess of the standard. 2. The relationship between the results by Hopcalite method and the passive monitoring method was significant(r=0.892). 3. The variation among three results by eath of three methods were different by process. The highest variation was determined at quality control process("process b") which invoved in large variation of concentrations. 4. When short term high concentrations were produced, the Hopcalite method was more efficient then the passive method.

The results are as follows. 1. By using SDA method, the average concentration of total microbe and fungus in the air inside and outside apartment house below 4 years are $69,42cfu/m^3\;and\;15.66cfu/m^3$, while apartment house over 4 years, $214.58cfu/m^3\;and\;216.43cfu/m^3$, respectively With gravitational sedimentation method, the average concentration of total microbe and fungus of apartmenthouse below 4 years are $100.63cfu/m^3\;and\;22.83cfu/m^3$, while apartment house over 4 years, $216.43cfu/m^3\;and\;70.000cfu/m^3$, respectively. 2. The I/O ratio of floating germ of apartment house below 4 years and over 4 years are 2.87 and 5.12 for total microbe, and 3.32 and 8.28 for fungus, respectively. The I/O ratio of falling germ of apartment house below 4 years and over 4 years are 1.55 and 2.81 for total microbe, and 2.85 and 4.08 for fungus, respectively. • As airborne laser scanning technique is developed with high vertical accuracy recently, there come many studies on DEM(digital elevation model creation, building extraction, flood risk mapping and 3D virtual city modeling. This study applied point comparative method, contour comparative method and digital map with scale 1/5,000 to calculate RMSE of DEM in according to resolution that was constructed using rawdata being acquired by airborne laser scanning. As a result, point comparative method showed lower DEM standard error than contour comparative method, it is a reason that contour comparative method was not carried out detailed grid calculation for point comparative method. Also, digital map with scale 1/5,000 showed higher DEM standard error than point comparative method and contour comparative method in below 25.4m that is average horizontal distance among contour line, and showed similar result with contour comparative method in over 25.4m.
