췌담관자기공명영상에서 2D TSE(RT)와 3D GRASE(BH) 기법에 대한 영상의 질 평가 : Fast MRCP 기법 (Evaluation of Image Quality for 2D TSE(RT) and 3D GRASE in MRCP Study: Fast MRCP Method)

  • 본 연구에서는 환자상태가 좋지 않은 환자에게 적용하기 위하여 Fast MRCP 검사 방법를 이용한 2D TSE(RT)와 3D GRASE(BH) 기법에 적용하여 영상의 질을 평가하고 임상에 기초자료로 제공하고자한다. MRCP 검사를 시행한 환자 30명(남자 15명, 여자 15명, 평균나이 64±4.26)을 대상으로 데이터를 분석하였다. 사용된 장비는 Ingenia CX 3.0 T 장비를 사용하였고 Data 획득은 Ds anterior Coil을 사용하였다. 정량적 분석으로 각 영상의 SNR과 CNR을 측정하고 정성적 평가를 위해 5등급으로 나누어 영상의 질을 평가하였다. 영상평가는 paired t-test와 wilcoxon 검정을 하였으며 p 값이 0.05 이하 일 때 유의성이 있는 것으로 간주하였다. SNR과 CNR에 대한 정량적 분석 결과 2D TSE(RT) MRCP 와 3D GRASE(BH) 두 기법을 비교했을 때 3D GRASE(BH)가 높게 측정되었다(p<0.05). 정성적 분석결과는 담관의 선예도: 3D GRASE(BH):4.12 ± 0.03, 전반적인 영상의 질: 3D GRASE(BH):4.21 ± 0.91로 높게 나타났다(p=0.001). 담관의 움직임 인공물은 두 기법(2D TSE(RT): 4.41 ± 0.04, 3D GRASE(BH): 4.53 ± 0.14로 유의성 있는 차이를 보이지 않았다(p=0.067). 그러나 배경소거부분은 2D TSE(RT)가 4.14 ± 0.55로 유의성 있는 결과를 얻었다(p=0.001). 결론적으로, Fast MRCP 검사방법을 이용한 결과 3D GRASE (BH)로 획득한 MRCP 영상이 2D TSE(RT)를 사용한 MRCP 영상에 비해 우위의 결과를 얻었다. 그러나, 호흡을 참기 힘든 환자의 경우 2D TSE(RT) MRCP 기법이 유용성이 있는 결과가 있을 것이다.

  • Antitumor and antimicrobial activities of water soluble fractions of Duchesnea indica (Andr.) and Focke (Rosaceae), have been studied. The contents of total polysaccharide were 22% and its composition was identified by G.C.: L-arabinose(Rt: 7.71), D-xylose (Rt. 9.91), D-glucuronic acid (Rt. 12.77), D-fructose (Rt. 13.63), D-galactose (Rt. 14.68), D-glucose (Rt. 15.42). The antimicrobial activity of Duchesnea indica against four bacterial species, S. aureus, S. paratyphi, S. dysenteriae and Ps. aeruginosa was observed.

Development and Application of Reverse Transcription Nanoplate-Based Digital PCR Assay for Sensitive and Accurate Detection of Rice Black-Streaked Dwarf Virus in Cereal Crops

  • The emergence of rice black-streaked dwarf virus (RBSDV) poses a significant threat to global cereal crop cultivation, necessitating the urgent development of reliable detection and quantification techniques. This study introduces a reliable approach for the precise and sensitive quantification of the RBSDV in cereal crop samples, employing a reverse transcription digital polymerase chain reaction (RT-dPCR) assay. We assessed the specificity and sensitivity of the RT-dPCR assay proposed for precise RBSDV detection and quantification. Our findings demonstrate that RT-dPCR was specific for detection of RBSDV, with no cross-reactivity observed with other viruses infecting cereal crops. The RT-dPCR sensitivity was over 10 times that of RT-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). The detection limit of RT-dPCR was 0.096 copies/㎕. In addition, evaluation of RT-dPCR assay with field samples was conducted on 60 different cereal crop samples revealed that RT-dPCR (45/60) exhibited superior accuracy compared with RT-qPCR (23/60). In this study, we present a specific and accurate RT-dPCR assay for the detection and quantification of RBSDV.

Dosimetric comparison of axilla and groin radiotherapy techniques for high-risk and locally advanced skin cancer

  • Purpose: Radiation therapy targeting axilla and groin lymph nodes improves regional disease control in locally advanced and high-risk skin cancers. However, trials generally used conventional two-dimensional radiotherapy (2D-RT), contributing towards relatively high rates of side effects from treatment. The goal of this study is to determine if three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT), intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), or volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) may improve radiation delivery to the target while avoiding organs at risk in the clinical context of skin cancer regional nodal irradiation. Materials and Methods: Twenty patients with locally advanced/high-risk skin cancers underwent computed tomography simulation. The relevant axilla or groin planning target volumes and organs at risk were delineated using standard definitions. Paired t-tests were used to compare the mean values of several dose-volumetric parameters for each of the 4 techniques. Results: In the axilla, the largest improvement for 3D-CRT compared to 2D-RT was for homogeneity index (13.9 vs. 54.3), at the expense of higher lung $V_{20}$ (28.0% vs. 12.6%). In the groin, the largest improvements for 3D-CRT compared to 2D-RT were for anorectum $D_{max}$ (13.6 vs. 38.9 Gy), bowel $D_{200cc}$ (7.3 vs. 23.1 Gy), femur $D_{50}$ (34.6 vs. 57.2 Gy), and genitalia $D_{max}$ (37.6 vs. 51.1 Gy). IMRT had further improvements compared to 3D-CRT for humerus $D_{mean}$ (16.9 vs. 22.4 Gy), brachial plexus $D_5$ (57.4 vs. 61.3 Gy), bladder $D_5$ (26.8 vs. 36.5 Gy), and femur $D_{50}$ (18.7 vs. 34.6 Gy). Fewer differences were observed between IMRT and VMAT. Conclusion: Compared to 2D-RT and 3D-CRT, IMRT and VMAT had dosimetric advantages in the treatment of nodal regions of skin cancer patients.

  • The combination of rapid prototyping(RP) and rapid tooling(RT) has a potential for rapid manufacturing of three-dimensional parts. In the present study, a new RP system transfer type Variable Lamination Manufacturing using Expandable Polystyrene Foam (VLM-ST), is proposed to fabricate net shapes of three-dimensional prototypes. Various three-dimensional parts, such as a knob shape and a human head shape, are manufactured by the VLM-ST apparatus. In addition, a new rapid tooling technology, which utilizes a room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) molding technique and a triple reverse process technique, is proposed to manufacture net shapes of three-dimensional plastic parts using the prototypes of VLM-ST. A plastic part of the knob shape is produced by the proposed RT technology. The combination of the proposed RP and RT enables the manufacture of a plastic knob within two days.

Rectal Temperature of Lactating Sows in a Tropical Humid Climate according to Breed, Parity and Season

  • Rectal Temperature;Thermoregulation;Sows;Breed;The effects of season (hot vs. warm) in a tropical humid climate, parity (primiparous vs. multiparous) and breed (Creole: CR, Large White: LW) on rectal temperature (RT) were studied for a total of 222 lactations obtained in 85 sows (43 CR and 42 LW; 56 primiparous and 166 multiparous) over a 28-d lactation, between June 2002 and April 2005. Mean daily ambient temperature was higher during the hot season than during the warm season (26.0 vs. $24.1^{\circ}C$) and relative humidity was high and similar in both seasons (89% on average). At farrowing, BW was lower (172 vs. 233 kg) and backfat thickness was higher (37 vs. 21 mm) in CR than in LW sows (p<0.01). During the hot season, the reduction of average daily feed intake (ADFI) was more pronounced in LW than in CR sows (-920 vs. -480 g/d, p<0.05). Rectal temperature was higher at 1200 than at 0700hr, which coincides with the maximum and the minimum values of daily ambient temperature. The daily RT increased ($+0.9^{\circ}C$; p<0.01) between d -3 and d 7 (d 0: farrowing day), remained constant between d 7 and d 25 and decreased (p<0.01) thereafter (i.e. $-0.6^{\circ}C$ between d 25 and d 32). The average daily RT was significantly higher during the hot than during the warm season (38.9 vs. $38.6^{\circ}C$; p<0.01). It was not affected by breed, but the difference in RT between the hot and warm seasons was more pronounced in LW than in CR sows (+0.4 vs. $+0.2^{\circ}C$; p<0.05). Parity influenced the RT response; it was greater in primiparous than in multiparous sows (38.9 vs. $38.7^{\circ}C$; p<0.01). This study suggests that thermoregulatory responses to heat stress can differ between breeds and between parities.

The Effect of Recombinant Tissue Plasminogen Activator on the Intracerebral Hematomas in Experimental Cat Models

  • Objective: Recent clinical studies have demonstrated that intracisternal administration of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator(rt-PA) can facilitate the normal clearing of blood from the subarachnoid space. Urokinase, a first generation fibrinolytic agent, has been used to liquify such clots with some success. Therefore, recombinant tissue plasminogen activator, a second generation fibrinolytic drug that may be safer and more effective, is studied to evaluate its dosage to lyse clots in vitro and reactivity in the brain parenchyme. Methods: Intracerebral hematomas were created by stereotactically injecting 2ml of clotted autogenous blood into the brain parenchyme of total 28 anesthetized adult cats (weighting 3.8 to 4.1 kg). The control animals (group A) received 1 ml of normal saline injected into the clots and the experimental animals received each 0.1 mg of rt-PA (group B), 0.5mg of rt-PA (group C) and 1 mg of rt-PA (group D) at 6 hours after the clot injection. Results: 1. The amount of remained clots after lysing the hematomas were as follows: $1.80{\pm}0.17ml$ in group A, $1.65{\pm}0.23ml$ in group B, $0.61{\pm}0.37ml$ in group C and $0.52{\pm}0.34$ in group D. The result indicated that hematomas in rt-PA treated groups (C & D) were lysed better than the control group. 2. At least 0.5mg of rt-PA should be required for the lysis of 2ml of hematomas. 3. Light microscopic examination revealed no histological evidence of hemorrhage in tissue sections from each brain. Conclusion: Recombinant tissue plasminogen activator may be safely and effectively employed for the lysis of intracerebral hematomas in animal model.

뉴캣슬병 바이러스 검출 및 병원성 감별을 위한 Duplex RT-PCR법 개발 (Development of a Duplex RT-PCR Assay for the Simultaneous Detection and Discrimination of Avirulent and Virulent Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV))

  • 본 연구에서 NDV의 L유전자와 F유전자를 표적 부위로 각각 제작한 primer 세트를 사용함으로써 하나의 PCR 튜브에서 NDV 검출(386 bp의 증폭 크기)과 함께 병원성 NDV(229 bp의 증폭 크기)를 동시에 감별 증폭할 수 있는 dRT-PCR 검사법을 개발하였다. 개발된 dRT-PCR검사법은 NDV를 특이적으로 검출하고, 병원성을 감별하였다. 특히 국내 병성감정 실시기관에서 적용 중인 기존의 RT-PCR 상용키트에서는 검출하지 못하는 class I NDV과 PPMV(class II 유전형 VI형)을 NDV를 검출함과 동시에 병원성 NDV도 감별가능하였다. 개발된 dRT-PCR 검사법의 검출 민감도는 약 $10^{3.0}EID_{50}/0.1mL$로 평가되었다. 또한 ND발생국의 야외 시료에 적용했을 때, NDV 공통항원 검출율은 94.4%였으며, 병원성 NDV 검출율은 100%이었다. 그러므로 본 연구에서 개발한 dRT-PCR 검사법은 의심축 사례에서 ND를 신속 정확하게 진단하는 데 유용할 진단 방법을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

The Role of Modern Radiotherapy Technology in the Treatment of Esophageal Cancer

  • Radiation therapy (RT) has improved patient outcomes, but treatment-related complication rates remain high. In the conventional 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional conformal RT (3D-CRT) era, there was little room for toxicity reduction because of the need to balance the estimated toxicity to organs at risk (OARs), derived from dose-volume histogram data for organs including the lung, heart, spinal cord, and liver, with the planning target volume (PTV) dose. Intensity-modulated RT (IMRT) is an advanced form of conformal RT that utilizes computer-controlled linear accelerators to deliver precise radiation doses to the PTV. The dosimetric advantages of IMRT enable better sparing of normal tissues and OARs than is possible with 3D-CRT. A major breakthrough in the treatment of esophageal cancer (EC), whether early or locally advanced, is the use of proton beam therapy (PBT). Protons deposit their highest dose of radiation at the tumor, while leaving none behind; the resulting effective dose reduction to healthy tissues and OARs considerably reduces acute and delayed RT-related toxicity. In recent studies, PBT has been found to alleviate severe lymphopenia resulting from combined chemo-radiation, opening up the possibility of reducing immune suppression, which might be associated with a poor prognosis in cases of locally advanced EC.

환자고유의 호흡 패턴을 적용한 호흡 연습장치 개발 및 유용성 평가 (Development of Respiratory Training System Using Individual Characteristic Guiding Waveform)

  • 본 연구에서는 환자 고유의 호흡 패턴을 적용하여 호흡의 규칙성을 향상 시킬 수 있는 호흡 연습장치(respiratory training system)를 개발하여, 호흡에 의한 움직임이 고려된 4D-RT (4-dimension radiation therapy) 또는 4D-CT (4-dimension computed tomography) 수행 시 효율성과 정확성을 높이고자 했다. 개발한 호흡연습장치는 푸리에 급수(Fourier series)를 기반으로 환자 고유의 호흡패턴을 만들어 환자에게 편안한 호흡 유도를 제공한다. 호흡연습장치를 사용했을 때 호흡의 규칙성 향상 정도를 알아보기 위하여 5명의 지원자를 대상으로 실험을 진행하였다. 10개의 자유호흡신호를 획득하여 실험 대상자의 고유한 호흡패턴(guiding waveform)을 만들고, 자유호흡(free breathing)을 3분 동안 시행한 후, 고유한 호흡패턴을 이용하여 호흡을 유도하는 신호모니터-호흡(guide breathing)을 3분 동안 시행하여 데이터를 획득하였다. 획득된 자유호흡과 신호모니터-호흡의 데이터를 이용하여 호흡크기(displacement)와 호흡주기(period)의 변동성을 Root mean square error (RMSE)를 적용하여 정량적으로 비교 분석하였다. 호흡의 변동성을 분석한 결과 신호모니터-호흡은 자유호흡과 비교하여 호흡크기의 경우 최대 40%, 호흡주기의 경우 최대 76%까지 RMSE 값이 감소하였으며, 모든 지원자들의 데이터를 분석한 결과 평균적으로 호흡주기의 경우 RMSE 값이 55% 감소되었고, 호흡크기의 경우 33% 감소하였다. 본 연구에서 개발한 호흡연습장치는 실험대상자의 고유한 호흡패턴을 이용하여 규칙적인 호흡을 유도했기 때문에 피실험자는 큰 노력 없이도 신호모니터-호흡을 따라 할 수 있었다. 따라서 규칙적인 호흡을 오랜 시간 지속시킬 수 있다는 측면에서 장점을 가질 수 있으며, 4D RT, 4D CT를 시행 할 경우 규칙적인 호흡을 통해 효율성과 정확성을 향상 시킬 수 있다.
