Translation initiation mediated by nuclear cap-binding protein complex

  • In mammals, cap-dependent translation of mRNAs is initiated by two distinct mechanisms: cap-binding complex (CBC; a heterodimer of CBP80 and 20)-dependent translation (CT) and eIF4E-dependent translation (ET). Both translation initiation mechanisms share common features in driving cap- dependent translation; nevertheless, they can be distinguished from each other based on their molecular features and biological roles. CT is largely associated with mRNA surveillance such as nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD), whereas ET is predominantly involved in the bulk of protein synthesis. However, several recent studies have demonstrated that CT and ET have similar roles in protein synthesis and mRNA surveillance. In a subset of mRNAs, CT preferentially drives the cap-dependent translation, as ET does, and ET is responsible for mRNA surveillance, as CT does. In this review, we summarize and compare the molecular features of CT and ET with a focus on the emerging roles of CT in translation.

JCBP : A Case-Based Planning System (JCBP : 사례 기반 계획 시스템)

  • By using previous similar case plans, the case-based planning (CBP) systems can generate efficiently plans for new problems. However, most existing CBP systems show limited functionalities for case retrieval and case generalization. Moreover, they do not allow their users to participate in the process of plan generation. To support efficient memory use and case retrieval, the proposed case-based planning system, JCBP, groups the set of cases sharing the same goal in each domain into individual case bases and maintains indexes to these individual case bases. The system applies the heuristic knowledge automatically extracted from the problem model to the case adaptation phase. It provides a sort of case generalization through goal regression. Also JCBP can operate in an interactive mode to support a mixed-initiative planning. Since it considers and utilizes user's preference and knowledge for solving the given planning problems, it can generate solution plans satisfying more user's needs and reduce the complexity of plan generation.

  • Warfare paradigm has been changed from PCW to NCW and the military requirement/acquisition system has been changed from bottom-up process(Weapon-Centric) to top-down process(Capability-Centric) in orde to improving the effectiveness of NCW. The concept of top down acquisition process focused on acquiring the capability based on CBP through CBA. However, implementing the concepts and embdding them into methodology will be chanllenging. So, we analyze existing examples overseas and to create new methodology which identify the our force capability through the CBA based on enimy capability. The proposed methodology can be implemented military operation area, public safety area and disaster relief area for CBP based on CBA.

  • 본 연구에서는 indium-tin-oxide(ITO)/1,4,5,8,9,11-hexaazatriphenylene-hexacarbonitrile(HAT-CN)/N,N'-di(naphthalene-lyl)-N,N'-diphenyl-benzidine(NPB)/4,4'-Bis(N-carbazolyl)-1,1'-biphenyl(CBP)/2,2',2"-(1,3,5-Benzinetriyl)-tris(1-phenyl-1-H-benzimidazole)TPBi/tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum($Alq_3$)/LiF/Al 구조를 가진 유기 발광 다이오드 소자의 발광층에 $Ir(ppy)_3$(2% wt)을 도핑하여 소자의 특성 변화를 살펴보았다. $Ir(ppy)_3$의 두께는 5nm이고 도핑 위치는 정공 수송층과 발광층 계면의 0nm에서부터 25nm까지 5nm간격으로 도핑을 하였다. 실험 결과 소자의 효율은 도핑 위치가 정공 수송층에서 25nm떨어진 위치일 때 가장 높았고, 10nm일 때 가장 낮았다. 이는 도핑 부분의 위치가 정공 차단층에 가까워질수록 정공과 전자의 균형이 좋아지는 것이 소자 성능을 향상시키는 원인으로 추측된다.

Impact of Carbon Costs on Wholesale Electricity Market (탄소비용이 CBP전력시장에 미치는 영향)

  • Carbon costs, either in the form of a carbon tax or through permit prices in an emissions trading scheme, would ultimately be reflected in higher electricity prices. This price "pass-through" is very critical to the effective design of new policies to curb the amount of carbon emissions. This paper sets out in a structured way the factors that determine price pass-through and how carbon costs would impact on the electricity market and the existing coal-fired power plants. It is shown that pass-through can vary drastically if the underlying dispatch potential of generators varies significantly across alternative emissions reduction scenarios. It can also vary depending on the availability of competing cleaner forms of generation. Pass-through as a measure of business performance is therefore hard to generalize across different circumstances and should be interpreted carefully.

  • The Concentrations of PCDDs/PCDFs and their precusors(chlorophenols, chlorobenzenes, PCB) were analyzed from the dioxin control device such as EP and SCR to know the emission patterns of these compounds and find the dioxin index compounds. The dioxin concentration increased 7 times in outlet part than inlet part of EP and the concentration of CBs, CPs and PCBs also were increased through this control device. These phenomia may be related to the operating temperature of Electroprecipitator(EP), which the operating temperature is near the $300^{\circ}C$, the method of the decreasing the operating temperature need to consider to prevent the formation of these compounds. In the selected catalytic reactor with wet scrubber(SCR+WS), these compounds were removed after passing the device over 90% for CPs, 30~40% for CBs and 60% for PCBs. But, the systematic study have to perform to reduce the formation of PCDDs/PCDFs and precusors.

  • 현재 운영되고 있는 변동비반영전력시장(CBP)은 2001년 4월 개설되어 구조개편 초기의 혼란을 최소화하고 2004년으로 예정된 도매전력시장 운영되기 전까지의 과도기 운영을 목적으로 설계되었다. 이는 제한된 경쟁시장으로 전력시장의 효율성 제고와 안정적인 전력공급에 어느 정도 기여하였으며, 내재된 문제가 제기되어도 곧 도입될 차기 도매전력시장에서 개선하려고 하였다. 참여정부의 배전분할 중단결정에 따라 변동비반영전력 시장의 장기운영이 불가피해지게 되었고, 전력거래소는 배전분할 중단 발표직후인 2004년 7월부터 전력시장 제도개선 논의 시작하였으며, 2005년 말에는 개선방안 연구결과를 발표하였다. 본 논문에서는 연구결과인 개선방안과 이를 시행하기 위한 추진계획을 설명하고 있다.

Is Acetylation a Metabolic Rheostat that Regulates Skeletal Muscle Insulin Action?

  • Skeletal muscle insulin resistance, which increases the risk for developing various metabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, is a common metabolic disorder in obesity and aging. If potential treatments are to be developed to treat insulin resistance, then it is important to fully understand insulin signaling and glucose metabolism. While recent large-scale "omics" studies have revealed the acetylome to be comparable in size to the phosphorylome, the acetylation of insulin signaling proteins and its functional relevance to insulin-stimulated glucose transport and glucose metabolism is not fully understood. In this Mini Review we discuss the acetylation status of proteins involved in the insulin signaling pathway and review their potential effect on, and relevance to, insulin action in skeletal muscle.

Congestion and Loss Cost for the Market Participants (시장참여자별 혼잡 및 손실 비용 산정)

  • Recently the power system consists of the more complicated structure, due to increase of power demands. In this circumstance, the congestion and loss capacity in transmission line is also increased. Accordingly, the investment planning of transmission system is required to reduce the congestion and loss of the transmission line. This paper proposes a method to compute the congestion and loss costs which are the key elements in economic assessment of the power system planning. And the benefit of market participants in CBP (Cost Based Pool) is computed. To demonstrate the efficient of the suggested methods, these methods are applied to peak load system of 2016 in the 4th Basic plan of Long-Them Electricity Supply and Demand.

Improved Degradation of 4-Chlorobiphencyl, 2,3-Dihydroxybiphenyl, and Catecholic Compounds by Recombinant Bacterial Strains

  • The pcbC gene encoding (4-chloro-)2,3-dihydroxybiphenyl dioxygenase was cloned from the genomic DNA of Pseudomonas sp. P20 using pKT230 to construct pKK1. A recombinant strain, E. coli KK1, was selected by transforming the pKK1 into E. coli XL1-Blue. Another recombinant strain, Pseudomonas sp. DJP-120, was obtained by transferring the pKK1 of E. coli KK1 into Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12 by conjugation. Both recombinant strains showed a 23.7 to 26.5 fold increase in the degradation activity to 2,3-dihydroxybiphenyl compared with that of the natural isolate, Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12. The DJP-120 strain showed 24.5, 3.5, and 4.8 fold higher degradation activities to 4-chlorobiphenyl, catechol, and 3-methylcatechol than DJ-12 strain, respectively. The pKK1 plasmid of both strains and their ability to degrade 2,3-dihydroxybiphenyl were stable even after about 1,200 generations.
