Single pellet press technology allows for fast, low-cost, and small-scale tests to investigate pelletizing characteristics. We estimated proper compression ratios for five Korean domestic wood species through predicted relationships between pelletizing pressure Px and compression ratio based on experimental data obtained from a single pellet press unit. The pressures required to obtain a 6-mm-diam pellet of density 1200 kg/㎥ were estimated as 111 MPa for Populus davidiana, 133 MPa for Robinia pseudoacacia, 136 MPa for Quercus mongolica, 97 MPa for Pinus densiflora, and 127 MPa for Pinus rigida. On the basis of these pressures, we estimated proper compression ratios to be within the range 7.676-8.410 for these species, and we found the compression ratios needed for hardwood species to be somewhat higher than those needed for softwood species to obtain the pellet density of 1200 kg/㎥.

A study of miniaturization of an L-band orthomode transducer(OMT) for field experiments of radar backscatter is presented in this paper. The proposed OMT is not required the additional waveguide taper structures to connect with a standard adaptor by the newly designed junction structure which bases on a waveguide taper. Total length of the OMT for L-band is about 1.2 ${\lambda}_o$(310 mm) and it's a size of 60 % of the existing OMTs. And, to increase the matching and isolation performances of each polarization, two conducting posts are inserted. The bandwidth of 420 MHz and the isolation level of about 40 dB are measured in the operating frequency. The L-band scatterometer consisting of the manufactured OMT, a horn-antenna and network analyzer(Agilent 8753E) was used STCT and 2DTST to analysis the measurement accuracy of radar backscatter. The full-polarimetric RCSs of test-target, 55 cm trihedral corner reflector, measured by the calibrated scatterometer have errors of -0.2 dB and 0.25 dB for vv-/hh-polarization, respectively. The effective isolation level is about 35.8 dB in the operating frequency. Then, the horn-antenna used to measure has the length of 300 mm, the aperture size of $450{\times}450\;mm^2$, and HPBWs of $29.5^{\circ}$ and $36.5^{\circ}$ on the principle E-/H-planes.
The purpose of this study is to determine the changes of ultrasonographic appearance of stomach, pylorus and duodenum in relation to food intake and administration of contrast medium in dogs. Ultrasonograms were obtained with 5.0MHz sector transducer. After placing the dogs in dorsal recumbency, scanning was performed at the 8th intercostal space. The mean inner diameter of stomach immediately after food intake, 2, 4 and 6 hours was 47.9, 51.5, 46.8 and 40.6mm, respectively. The diameter of pylorus immediately after food intake, 2, 4 and 6 hours was 7.4, 9.7, 8.9 and 6.0mm, respectively(p<0.01). The diameter of duodenum immediately after food intake 2, 4 and 6 hours was 12.5, 7.9, 11.9 and 11.8mm, respectively(p<0.01). Before administration of contrast medium, the mean inner diameter of stomach, pylorus and duodenum was 38.6, 7.2 and 9.5mm, respectively. After administration of contrast medium, the diameters of stomach, pylorus and duodenum was 42.8, 7.7 and 9.9mm, respectively. It may be concluded that the ultrasonographic values determined in this study can be used as references for the diagnosis of gastrointestinal disease in dogs.
Heating experiments using the 7075 aluminum alloy in the state of billet and extrudate have been performed to investigate the pertinent ranges of working temperatures and holding times for the application to the various automobile parts. The 7075 specimens from raw billet of 152 mm in diameter and 400 mm in length prior to extrusion were used for heating with a holding time of 10 minutes at temperatures between 380℃ and 550℃. Then, an extrusion process using the billet has been fulfilled at 380℃ with extrusion speed of 0.8 mm/min to get an plate-type extrudate of 75 mm in width and 4.2 mm in thickness. The samples from the extrudate were subjected to heating experiments at temperatures between 380℃ and 440℃ with holding times such as 10 min, 30 min, 60 min and 120 min at each heating temperature. The microstructures were investigated on the optical and EBSD micrographs. The hardness measurement and the tensile test have been performed to investigate the effect of the heat treatment on the mechanical property. The results showed for the 7075 extrusion process that the safe heating of billet can be performed below 450℃ and the extrusion can be done safely up to 400℃.

In recent years, developments in the semiconductor and electronic industries have brought a rapid increase in the use of large size silicon. However, for many companies, it is hard to produce 400mm or 450mm wafers, because of excesive funds for exchange the equipments. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate 300mm wafer to obtain a better efficiency and a good property rate. Polishing is one of the important methods in manufacturing of Si wafers and in thinning of completed device wafers. This research investigated the surface characteristics that apply variable machining conditions and Taguchi Method was used to obtain more flexible and optimal condition. In this study, the machining conditions have head speed, oscillation speed and polishing time. By using optimum condition, it achieves a ultra precision mirror like surface.
Direct extrusions of an aluminum 7075 alloy were carried out using 1500 ton machine with and without die cooling system. Cooling of extrusion die has been performed by the flow of liquid nitrogen and controlled by laser thermometer. Billet was 180 mm in diameter and 500 mm in length. The preheating temperatures of billet, container and die were 390℃, 400℃ and 450℃, respectively. Ram speed was kept with 1.25 mm/sec first. The change of ram speed was carried out during extrusion according to the observation of surface defects such as crack or tearing. Extrudates of 8.3 m in length, 100 mm in width and 15 mm in thickness were obtained to observe and analyze surface defects by optical microscopy and EBSD (Electron BackScattered Diffraction). In case of extrusion without die cooling cracks on the surface and tearing in the corner of extrudate occurred in the middle stage and developed in size and frequency during the late stage of extrusion. At the extrusion with die cooling the occurrence of defects could be suppressed on the most part of extrudate. EBSD micrographs showed that cracks and tearings have been resulted from the same origin. Surface defects were generated at the boundaries of grains formed by secondary recrystallization due to surface overheating during extrusion.
Lately outmoded and functionally obsolete buildings constructed in 1960s and 1970s are often remodelled and restored. Even though there are not serious structural defects in the existing buildings, many old buildings have been reconstructed to improve residence quality or to extend residence area of the buildings. The experimental or theoretical research on plane expansion of RC apartments is quite scare. In this research, 12 specimens and 19 RC slabs connected by hinged joints were tested. The new slab was connected to the existing slab by hinge joints injecting dowel bars between two slabs. Main parameters of the slabs are types of the dowel bars (D13 and D19), spacing of the dowel bars (150mm, 300mm, and 450mm), and the locations of the steel bars in the existing slabs. The test results indicated that the shear strength of the RC test slabs having various types of dowel bars was about twice that calculated by the ACI 318-02 code. All slabs failed in concrete spatting and the dowel steel bars did not reach their yield strengths.

In order to remodel old aged reinforced concrete buildings, it is often required to extend the residence area of the buildings by increasing the slab area. The slab area is usually extended by attaching a new slab to the existing slab with hinged joint or rigid joint. Transmission of the loads of the attached slabs to the existing slabs depends on the connecting methods, such as hinged or rigid connection. In this research, 8 specimens and 24 RC slabs connected by rigid joints were tested. The new slab was connected to the existing slab by three types of rigid joints using dowel bars and longitudinal tensile bars. Main parameters of the slabs were three types of the rigid joints, anchor length of steel bars(0, 50, 60, 100, and 120mm), development length of steel bars(100, 200, and 300mm), and the spacing of the steel bars(150, 200, 300, and 450mm). The test results indicated that the flexural strength of the RC test slabs having various types of rigid joints was approximately the same to that of the slab without any connections.
The effect of microwave irradiation on wood bending was investigated in this study. The specimens irradiated with microwave were bent around a form by using pedestal-steel and clamps. The specimens, korea red pine (Pinus densiflora), for this test were water-soaked for 78 hours. Saturated specimens were boiled in water for an hour. The size of specimens was 350mm(L) by 20mm(R) by 10mm(T). These specimens were heated by microwave of 2,450MHz. The most suitable time for microwave irradiation seems to range from 60 to 90 seconds. Wood moisture content decreased remarkably with the increase of irradiation time. When a softened wood piece is bent, its convex side was stretched while the concave side was compressed. It can be compressed considerably, but stretched very little. Therefore the failure will be governed by the tensile breaking strain and occur mainly on the convex face. So we obtained results from three different bending process methods as follows : 1) When bending with a pedestal-steel, convex face had not tensile breakings, but concave face had compression fails. 2) When bending with a clamp, bending time increased more than pedestal-steel and occurred tensile breaking. 3) Bending with a pedestal-steel and a clamp was found to be the most excellent operation method in this study.

Growth runs of KTP single crystals were carried out by the hydrothermal method. KTP powders used for the crystal growth were prepared as a single phase by the solid state reaction of a stoichiometric mixture of $KH_2PO_4 and TiO_2$ at TEX>$800^{\circ}C$ and subsequently by the hydrothermal treatment at $250^{\circ}C$ 4m KF solution. The most effective solvents for the crystal growth of KTP were KF and K $K_2HPO_4$ solutions. Solubilities of KTP in these solutions were positive over the range $350~450^{\circ}C$.Seed crystals of good quality could be obtained by the horizontal temperature gradient method at temperatures over the range 380~430^{\circ}C$ in these solutions. The hydrothermal conditions for the high growth rates of seed crystals are as follows: growth method; vertical temperature gradient method, solvent; 4m KF or $K_2HPO_4$ solution, temperature region; $400~450^{\circ}C$, pressure region; $1000~1500kg/cm^2$, where solubility of KTP was large enough to proceed the growth. Under such conditions, seed crystals of KTP are grown at a rate of approximately 0.06-0.08mm/day in the direction of the c-axis. Morphologies of grown crystals tended to be bounded by (100), (011) and (201) faces.
