This paper describes the characteristics of high speed grinding and the influence of wheel surface speed V and a grindability of the grinding materials. The various fine ceramics pieces was ground by metal and vitrified bonded diamond wheel. The surface roughness of fine ceramics(Zirconia($ZrO_2$), Silicon Carbide(SiC), Silicon Nitride($Si_3N_4$), Alumina($Al_2O_3$)) decreases from $0.05{\mu}m(R_{max})$ to $0.025{\mu}m(R_{max})$ when the wheel speed at grinding point increases the wheel speed. Relation between the temperature at grinding point and surface roughness was linear. Abrasive jet machining(AJM), a specialized from of shot blasting, is considered one of the most helpful micro machining methods for hard and brittle materials such as glasses and ceramics by constant pressure grinding.

To protect the ozone layer, R22 will be replaced with HFCs. R407C is a leading candidate as alternative refrigerant for air conditioner due to its similar thermodynamic characteristics with R22. In replacing R22 with R407C, the compatibility with lubricating oil is of major concern. Polyol ester (POE) oil among the synthetic oils is considered to be the best lubricant for use with R407C because of good electrical properties and miscibility. However, lubricating ability of mixture of R407C/POE oil is lower than that of R22/mineral oil due to the production of acid by hydrolysis which causes corrosive wear. Therefore, to minimize water content, it is needed to develop a molecular sieve desiccant which is compatible with R407C and ester oil. This paper discusses (1) the change of properties of POE oil when current molecular seive is used, (2) the effects of POE oils and additives on durability of compressor. Through compressor life test and bench wear test, it was found that inadequate use of POE oils and additives may promote the deteriation of molecular sieve, resulting in decrease of durability of compressor.
In this paper, a series of alkyl succinic acid esters for base oil were synthesized by condensation reaction of succinic anhydride and fatty alcohol. The structures of the synthesized esters were confirmed by $^1H-NMR$, FT-IR spectrum and GC analysis. Basic properties of esters such as kinematic viscosity (KV), refractive index (RI), total acid number (TAN) and pour points were measured and lubricating properties such as SRV wear scar diameter (SRV WSD), fraction coefficient (COF) and 4-ball wear (4-ball WSD) were also evaluated. As the results of basic properties, KV, RI and pour point of synthetic esters increased as the carbon chain of the esters increased. Measurement value of total acid number (TAN) was indicated between 0.2~4 mgKOH/g, and that metal working fluids and pressure working oils are acceptable to use as base oil. Also, lubricating properties of the esters showed as follows: 0.391~0.689 mm of SRV WSD, 0.110~0.138 of SRV COF and 0.49~0.55 mm of 4-ball WSD depended on the structure of the esters. In a comparison on the lubrication capacity of the SRV test based on polyester TMPTO, SRV WSD result showed that a better performance caused by the alkyl group. On the other hand, SRV COF test was not influenced of the alkyl group which the capacity of the lubricant was sightly diminished than the comparison material, regardless of the alkyl group.

In this study, we synthesized a calcium sulfonate complex grease and a lithium complex grease to investigate their physical, rheological and tribological properties. The thermal stability of the calcium sulfonate was higher than $300^{\circ}C$ and the lithium complex grease was $245^{\circ}C$ in the dropping point test. In the grease viscosity measurement, the calcium sulfonate complex grease was measured as $7.0Pa{\cdot}s$ and the lithium complex grease was as $4.5Pa{\cdot}s$. Therefore, it was confirmed that the calcium sulfonate complex grease is superior to the lithium complex grease in terms of thermal stability and cohesiveness. In the 4-ball wear test, the calcium sulfonate complex grease was measured to be 0.43 mm and the lithium complex grease to 0.85 mm. In the 4-ball extreme pressure test, calcium sulfonate complex grease was measured as 620 kgf and the lithium complex grease was as 125 kgf. Therefore, it was confirmed that the calcium sulfonate complex grease is superior to the lithium complex grease in abrasion resistance and load-bearing property. It was found that the calcium sulfonate complex grease is more effective than the lithium complex grease in the lubrication at high temperature and high load.
This paper presents the experimental effects of lubricant with nanodiamond particles in sliding friction. In order to improve the performance of lubricants many additives are used, such as MoS2, cadmium chloride, indium, sulfides, and phosphides. These additives are harmful to human health and to the environment, so alternatives are necessary. One such alternative is nanodiamond powder, which has a large surface area. In order to investigate the effect of nanodiamonds in lubricants under sliding friction, they are dispersed in the lubricant at a variety of concentrations (0 wt%, 0.1 wt%, 0.3 wt%, 0.5 wt%, and 1 wt%) using the matrix synthesis method. Friction and wear tests are performed according to the ASTM G99 method using a pin-on-disc tester at room temperature. The specimens used in this experiment are AISI 52100 ball bearings and AISI 1020 steel discs. During the test, lubricant mixed with nanodiamond is supplied constantly to keep the two bodies separated by a lubricant film. To maintain boundary lubrication, the speed is set to 0.18 m/s and a load of 294 N is applied to the disc through the pin. Results are recorded by using workbench software over the test duration of 10 minutes. Experimental results show that when the concentration of nanodiamond increases, the coefficient of friction decreases. However, above a nanodiamond concentration of 0.5 wt%, both the coefficient of friction and wear volume increase. From this experiment, the optimum concentration of nanodiamond showing a minimum coefficient of friction of 0.09 and minimum wear volume of 0.82 nm2 was 0.5 wt%.
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are widely used in polymer composites as filler materials to enhance various characteristics of the composites because of their remarkable mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties. In this study, we investigate the effects of MWCNTs on the electrical and wear characteristics of high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) composites, and compare the results with the effects of carbon black (CB). The HIPS composites are classified as Bare-HIPS, MWCNT-HIPS composites containing 2, 3, 4, and 5 wt% MWCNTs, and CB-HIPS containing 17 wt% CB. Electrical characteristics are evaluated by measuring the surface resistance using a 4-point probe. Wear characteristics are evaluated using the reciprocating wear test, and a chrome steel ball with a curvature of 6.3 mm is used as the counterpart. The results show that the addition of MWCNTs or CB can improve the electrical and wear characteristics of HIPS composites. In the case of MWCNT-HIPS composites, surface resistance, friction coefficient, and specific wear rate decrease as the concentrations of MWCNTs increase. Moreover, the addition of MWCNTs is more effective in improving the electrical and wear characteristics of HIPS composites compared to the addition of CB. To fabricate the HIPS composite with appropriate electrical and wear characteristics, more than 4 wt% MWCNTs is added to HIPS.

A computer-controlled micro tribotester has been developed to investigate the friction and wear characteristics of thin coatings, which can be applied to silicon-based materials. In the developed system, a step motor gives a reciprocating movement and an electromagnet applies a load between a ball and a plate specimen. Test results confirmed that the application of load in the range of $0.03{\sim}1.8N$ and with a sliding speed of $4.44{\sim}7.70mm/s$ was successfully accomplished. Advantages of the developed micro tribotester are: (1) realization of micro load and displacement applicable to micro electromechanical systems(MEMS) using DC motor and electromagnet (2) continuously variable load and reciprocating speed; and (3) high reliability, which allows for unattended use for long periods.
The tribological behavior of CrMoN films with respect to surface chemistry was investigated by using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). All of the films were prepared from a hybrid PVD system consisting of DC unbalanced magnetron (UBM) sputtering and arc ion plating (AIP) sources. The tribological property of the films was evaluated by a friction coefficient using a Ball-on-disk type tribometer. The chemistry of wear track was analyzed by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and XPS. The friction coefficient was measured to be 0.4 for the CrMoN film, which is lower than that of a monolithic CrN film. EDS and XPS results imply the formation of an oxide layer on the coating surface, which was identified as molybdenum oxide phases, known to be a solid lubricant during the wear test.
Tubes in heat exchanger of fuel rods in reactor core are supported at intemediate point by support p0lates or springs. Current practice is, in case of heat exchanger, to allow clearance between tube and support plate for design and manufacturing consideration. And in case of fuel rod the clearance in support point can be generated due to the support spring force relaxation. Flow-induced vibration of a tube can cause it to impact or rub against support plate or against adjacent tubes and can result in fretting-wear. The tube-to- support dynamic interaction is used to relate experimental wear data from single-span test rigs to real multi-span heat exchanger configurations. The dynamic interaction cna be measured during experimental wear tests. However, the dynamic interaction is difficult to measure in real heat exchangers and, therefore, analytical techniques are required to estimate this interaction. This paper describels the nonlinear impact model of DAGS(Dynamic Analysis of Gapped Structure) code which simulates the tube response to external sinusodial or step excitation and predicts tube motion and tube-to-support dynamic interaction. Three experimental measurements-two single span rods excited by sinusodial force and a two span rod impacted by a steel ball are compared from the simulation nonlinear model of DAGS code. The simulation results from DAGS code are in good agreement with measurements. Therefore, the developed model of DAGS code is good analytical tool for estimating tube-to-support dynamic interaction in real heat exchangers.

The effect of oxidation in SAE 5W30 engine oils on friction and wear characteristics was investigated using reciprocating bench tester and shell 4-ball tester. Commercial engine oils were collected and oxidized using the KS M 2021 method modifying the oxidation time. Kinematic viscosity, total acid number(TAN), FT-IR spectrum and total base number(TBN) also measured to examine the chemical change of oils with oxidation. The results showed that TAN was slightly changed and Kinematic viscosity was suddenly increased during the oxidation stage. however, TBN results keep a constant slope after TBN linearly decreased with oxidation time. Spectroscopy results showed that spectrums were orderly increased at $1710cm^{-1}$ during the oxidation time. Friction test results showed that oxidation of oils formed unstable friction layers causing higher fluctuating friction. however, the wear resistance was independent of oxidized time due to the different friction characteristics by oxidation. We found several factors in relation to lubrication properties with oxidation time. This factors were Viscosity, TBN, change of FT-IR spectrum, friction coefficient using reciprocating bench tester and wear scar.
