  • Hypothermia is an essential preparatory procedure for cardiac surgery, which lows the metabolic rate and myocardial oxygen demand. However, hypothermia itself is a stress enough to change the tonus of sympathoadrenal system, especially the cardiovascular responses to the catecholamines. It is reported that the positive chronotropic and inotropic response of catecholamines is exaggerated during hypothermia because of decreased norepinephrine uptake at the junctional cleft or decreased catecholamine metabolism. On the other hand, there are evidences of diminished catecholamines responses in low temperature ana further, interconversion of adrenergic receptors is also suggested. Present investigation was planned to observe the cardiovascular changes and its responses to catecholamines during surface hypothermia in cat. Healthy mongrel cats, weighing $2{\sim}3\;kg$, anesthetized with secobarbital(30 mg/kg), were permitted to hypothermia by external cooling technic. Esophageal temperature, ECG (lead II), heart rate, left ventricular pressure with dP/dt, carotid artery pressure and left ventricular contractile force were monitored with Polygragh (Model 7, Grass), and the respiration was maintained with artificial respirator (V 5 KG, Narco). Followings are summarized results. 1) Surface cooling caused progressive decrease of body temperature and reached $l8.8{\pm}0.8^{\circ}C$ and $16.9{\pm}0.6^{\circ}C$ in 120 and 150 min respectively, after immersion into ice water, and ventricular fibrillation was developed at $20.4{\pm}0.65^{\circ}C$. 2) Heart rate, blood pressure and myocardial contractility were decreased after initial increase as the body temperature falls. 3) Systolic and diastolicdd P/dt of left ventricular pressure were decreased and that the decrement of diastolic dP/dt was more marked. 4) On ECG, ST depression, Twave inversion and prolongation of PR interval were prominent in hypothermia, and moreover, the prolongation of PR interval was marked just prior to the development of ventricular fibrillation. 5) The cardiovascular responses to catecholamines, especially to isoproterenol, were suppressed under hypothermia.

  • KIGAM (Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources) and MRAM (Mineral Resources Authority of Mongolia) performed joint survey on Bayan-Onjuul W-Mo mineralized area. Following the survey, we carried out magnetic survey. W-Mo occurrences are located with keeping a certain distance from the northern boundary of granite which has higher magnetic susceptibility values. Also, the 3D imaging results of magnetic inversion show that granite bodies are extended to the W-Mo occurrence areas from the deep main body with decreasing of susceptibility. The results of magnetic data analysis are well matched with the general characteristics of ore solution involved with W mineralization. The further study about the hidden ore deposits which have similar spatial relationship between granite and known WMo occurrences are necessary to improve the economic feasibility.

  • Adaptive beamforming algorithms have been widely used to remove interference and jamming in the phased array radar system. Advances in the field programmable gate array(FPGA) technology now make possible the real time processing of adaptive beamforming (ABF) algorithm. In this paper, the FPGA based real-time implementation method of adaptive beamforming system(beamformer) in the pre-processor module for active electronically scanned array(AESA) radar is proposed. A compact FPGA-based adaptive beamformer is developed using commercial off the shelf(COTS) FPGA board with communication via OpenVPX(Virtual Path Cross-connect) backplane. This beamformer comprises a number of high speed complex processing including QR decomposition & back substitution for matrix inversion and complex vector/matrix calculations. The implemented result shows that the adaptive beamforming patterns through FPGA correspond with results of simulation through Matlab. And also confirms the possibility of application in AESA radar due to the real time processing of ABF algorithm through FPGA.

  • In this research, hollow fiber membranes were used in order to investigate to permeation and selectivity of the $CH_4$ and $N_2$. Polyimide and polyethersulfone hollow fiber membrane were prepared by the dry-wet phase inversion method and the module was manufactured by fabricating fibers after surface coating with silicone elastomer. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies showed that the produced fibers typically had an asymmetric structure. The permeance of $CH_4$ and $N_2$ were increased with pressure and temperature. However, the selectivity was decreased with increasing temperature. The permeances of $CH_4$ and $N_2$ were decreased with increasing the air gap and the effect of post-treatment on membrane showed the increase in permeance up to 3.2~7.0 times.

  • The visual analysis of buried channel (Be) devices such as buried channel MOSFETs and CCDs (Charge Coupled Devices) is investigated to give better understanding and insight for their electrical behaviours using a 3-dimensional (3-D) numerical simulation. This paper clearly demonstrates the capability of the numerical simulation of 'EVEREST' for characterising the analysis of a depletion mode MOSFET and BC CCD, which is a simulation software package of the semiconductor device. The inverse threshold and punch-through voltages obtained from the simulations showed an excellent agreement with those from the measurement involving errors of within approximately 1.8% and 6%, respectively, leading to the channel implanted doping profile of only approximately $4{\sim}5%$ error. For simulation of a buried channel CCD an advanced adaptive discretising technique was used to provide more accurate analysis for the potential barrier height between two channels and depletion depth of a deep depletion CCD, thereby reducing the CPU running time and computer storage requirements. The simulated result for the depletion depth also showed good agreement with the measurement. Thus, the results obtained from this simulation can be employed as the input data of a circuit simulator.

  • Gravity characteristics and Moho undulations are investigated in the Korean peninsula by using satellite gravity data. According to the development of satellite geodesy, gravity potential models which have high accuracy and resolution were released. Using the EIGEN-CGOIC model based on low orbit satellite data such as CHAMP and GRACE, geoid and gravity anomaly were calculated by spherical harmonic analysis. The study area is located at $123^{\circ}\sim132^{\circ}E, 33^{\circ}\sim43^{\circ}$N including Korea. Free-air anomalies, which show the effect of terrain, have the values between $-37\sim724 mgal. After Bouguer correction, the range of simple Bouguer anomalies is $-221\sim246$ mgal. Complete Bouguer anomalies after terrain correction increase from continent to marine. This phenomenon is related rise of Moho discontinuity. The cut-frequency for extraction of Moho undulation was determined by power spectrum analysis, and then 3D inversion modeling was implemented. The mean, maximum, minimum, and standard deviation of Moho depth undulation are -26, -36, -8, and 4.9 krn, respectively.

  • An 11-year-old male Maltese dog was presented with sudden onset of convulsion and right sided circling. On neurological examination, left side proprioception and menace reflexes were delayed. Blood examinations indicated severe thrombocytopenia and increased hepatic enzymes. On brain magnetic resonance imaging, lesions were founded on the left lateral subarachnoid space area. Those lesions showed hyperintense on T1-weighted images, hyperintense on T2-weighted images and hyperintense on fluid attenuated inversion recovery images. Cerebrospinal fluid analysis revealed xanthochromia and erythrophagocytosis. Coagulation test results demonstrated that fibrin degradation product and D-dimer concentrations were higher than normal range. The patient expired few hours after presentation. This case report demonstrates intracranial hemorrhage with disseminated intravascular coagulation in a dog.

  • In order to investigate the polymorphism of wagnerite, the single phase of$Mg_3(PO_4)_2$ was synthesized by heating the stoichiometric mixture of $Mg_3(PO_4)_2$ and $MgF_2$ in a sealed platinum tube at $1040^{\circ}C$ (or 3 hours, One reversible inversion was detected at $1255^{\circ}C$ and the thermal decomposition was not observed until it reached the melting point. As a result, wagnerite is thermally stable enough to be used as pigments for glazes and plastics if substituted with divalent metal ions. The contractions of d-values in $Zn_4P_2O_8F_2$ and $Zn_3MgP_2O_8F_2$ phases were observed by the substitution with metal ions which resulted in intense purple, gold and green colors. Among the several attempts of charge - coupled sub-stitution, only $A^{1+}A_3^{2+}X^{5+}X^{6+}O_8_F2$ compositions were successful to synthesize the wagnerite phase.

  • ERT imaging, especially 3-D method, is a very powerful means to obtain a very high resolution image of the subsurface for geotechnical or hydrogeological problems. In this paper, we introduce two examples of successful case histories, where the imaging targets were three-dimensional. First example is the case of 3-D fracture imaging for hydrogeologic application. In this example, the borehole deviation was a critical problem in the ERT imaging and we could obtain real 3-D attitude of fracture system by including the borehole deviation in the inversion. In the second case, we did field experiment to image the empty tunnel with the size of $2m{\times}2m$ and the target was very clearly imaged in 3-D space. In these examples, we could show that 3-D ERT imaging is a very powerful tool for the 3-D subsurface imaging and the method can provide enhanced imaging capabilities especially for the 3-D targets such as fractures and cavities or tunnel.

  • Nano-emulsion with phase inversion temperature (PIT) emulsifying system was prepared to use rapeseed oil from originating Jeju in order to apply various cosmetic applications. Natural rape seed oil (NRSO) extraction was extracted using n-hexane as a solvent. NRSO extract showed a light yellowish color of viscous liquid as well as yield was $43{\pm}2.5%$. Acid value was $2.76{\pm}0.5$ and gravity was $0.89{\pm}0.05$. Droplet size of PIT-Yuche-NE with 20wt% of rapeseed oil was 50-120nm (average: $82{\pm}5.8nm$) and zeta potential was -29.5mV. It was thermodynamically good stable emulsion due to $(PEG)_{5-30}$fattyacidether. Some conclusions from the result of characteristic experiment were obtained as follows. First, the anti-oxidative activity was measured by free radical scavenging activity using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical). Anti-oxidative activity of PIT-Yuche-NE was $37.2{\pm}6.7%$ on 10mg/mL compared with PIT-Toco-NE (Natural tocopherol nano-emulsion, $28.8{\pm}6.5%$ on 10 mg/mL) and PIT-Nokcha-NE (Green tea extract nano-emulsion, $29.6{\pm}7.2%$ on 10mg/mL). Second, the collagen synthesis activity of PIT-Yuche-NE was $148{\pm}15.2%$ compared with PIT-Toco-NE (Natural tocopherol nano-emulsion, $121{\pm}13.5%$ on 10mg/mL) and PIT-Nokcha-NE (Green tea extract nano-emulsion, $95{\pm}12.7%$ on 10mg/mL). Third, the effectiveness of moisturizing activity of Yuche-CRM with Aramo-TS after 6 hours increase $47{\pm}3.9%$ (*p-value£0.05, n=7) whereas Both Toco-CRM was $30{\pm}5.2%$ (*p-value£0.05, n=7) and Nokcha-CRM was $35{\pm}4.5%$. Therefore, Yuche-CRM has higher moisturizing effect than other two creams. Finally, Nano-emulsion stabilizing rapeseed oil using PIT emulsifying system of this study can be used to apply cosmetics industry and pharmaceutical industry.
