Design of spectrum spreading technique applied to DVB-S2

  • Spectrum spreading, in its general form, can be conceived as an artificial expansion of the signal bandwidth with respect to the minimum Nyquist band required to transmit the desired information. Spreading can be functional to several objectives, including resilience to interference and jammers and reduction of power spectral density levels. In the paper, signal spreading is manly used for increasing the received energy, thus satisfying link budget constraints, for terminals with low aperture antennas, without increasing the transmitted EIRP. As a matter of fact, in many mobile scenarios, even when MODCOD configurations with very low spectral efficiency (i.e. QPSK-1/4) in DVB-S2 standard, are used, the link budget cannot be closed. Spectrum spreading has been recently proposed as a technique to improve system performance without introducing additional MODCOD configurations under the constraint of fixed power spectrum density level at the transmitter side. To this aim, the design of spectrum spreading techniques shall keep into consideration requirements such as spectrum mask, physical layer performance, link budget, hardware reuse, robustness, complexity, and backward compliance with existing commercial equipments. The proposed implementation allows to fully reuse the standard DVB-S2 circuitry and is inserted as an 'inner layer' in the standard DVB-S2 chain.

A Study on the Acceptance Decision Factors of Mobile Services: Focusing on Expanding Technology Acceptance Model by Intrinsic Motivation (모바일 서비스 수용결정요인에 관한 연구 - 내재적 이용동기에 의한 정보기술수용모형의 확장을 중심으로 -)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate factors influencing user's intention to use by expanding TAM(Technology Acceptance Model). Based on this model, this study developed a comprehensive model and user's motivation factors such as extrinsic and intrinsic motivation to describe their intention to accept WCDMA service. For this purpose those who have subscribed to and use the current mobile communication service - all of whom were 13 to 49 years old living in Seoul or other large cities - were surveyed. Structural equation model was conducted to identify and validate the relationship of overall variables relating to mobile service acceptance. The analysis results indicate that intrinsic motivations in mobile service acceptance process have significant impacts on perceived usefulness and perceived ease to use. The results of this study also proposed the way to boost mobile service user's extrinsic and intrinsic motivation for coming up with strategies on how to improve effectiveness of communication and marketing. Future directions and limitations are also discussed.

Architecture of an LDPC Decoder for DVB-S2 using reuse Technique of processing units and Memory Relocation (연산기와 메모리 재사용을 이용한 효율적인 DVB-S2 규격의 LDPC 복호기 구조)

  • Low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes are recently emerged due to its excellent performance. The standard for European high definition satellite digital video broadcast, DVB-S2 has adopted LDPC codes as a channel coding scheme. This paper proposes a DVB-S2 LDPC decoder architecture using a hybrid parity check matrix which is efficient in hardware implementation for both decoders and encoders. The hybrid H-matrices are constructed so that both the semi-random technique and the partly parallel structure can be applied to design encoders and decoders. Using the hybrid H-matrix scheme, the architecture of LDPC decoder for DVB-S2 can be very practical and efficient. In addition, we show a new Variable Node processor Unit (VNU) architecture to reuse the VNU for various code rates and optimized block memory placement to reuse. We design a DVB-S2 LDPC decoder of code rate 1/2 usng the proposed architecture. We estimate the performance of the DVB-S2 LDPC decoder and compare it with other decoders.

Optimal Interference Rejection Weight for Multistage Parallel Nulling-Partial PIC Receiver for MIMO MC-CDMA Systems (MIMO MC-CDMA 시스템을 위한 다단계 병렬 널링 및 부분 간섭 제거 수신기를 위한 최적 가중치 결정)

  • We propose optimal interference rejection weight for multistage parallel nulling (MPN) partial parallel interference cancellation (PPIC) receiver previously proposed to enhance the performance of V-BLAST for downlink multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) multicarrier (MC)-code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. MPN-PPIC method proposed in [1] was based on the parallel interference cancellation (PIC) with fixed interference rejection weight obtained experimentally. However, the fixed weight can not be adapted to various systems efficiently, thus we proposed method for the optimal interference rejection weight based on the received signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR), and the performance of the proposed method was evaluated through computer simulation comparing with the previous method. We obtained performance gains of 2.5 dB ~ 5 dB for BER of 10$^{-3}$ .

An interleaver to reduce the edge-effect in turbo codes with CRC (CRC를 사용한 터보부호에서 edge-effect를 감소시키기 위한 인터리버)

  • In the next generation mobile communications, powerful channel coding is essential in order to obtain high quality multimedia services. Turbo code can achieve good error performance by iterative decoding, but more iterations result in additional computational complexity and delay. Thus, a method to reduce the number of iterations without additional performance degradation is needed. Turbo code with CRC is known to be the most efficient method to reduce the number of iterations. In this scheme, the performance may be degraded by the edge-effect like the conventional turbo code without CRC. In this paper, a method to eliminate the edge-effect is proposed by adopting D-parameter to the conventional s-random interleaver. As results of simulation, the edge-effect of the turbo code with CRC is shown to be successfully eliminated by using the new interleaver designed with D-parameter.

However, the parity check (H) matrices of the previous works are not adequate for hardware implementation of encoders or decoders. This paper proposes a hybrid parity check matrix which is efficient in hardware implementation of both decoders and encoders. The hybrid H-matrices are constructed so that both the semi-random technique and the partly parallel structure can be applied to design encoders and decoders. Using the proposed methods, the implementation of encoders can become practical while keeping the hardware complexity of the partly parallel decoder structures. An encoder and a decoder are designed using Verilog-HDL and compared with the previous results.

Coded performance evaluation of a multi-antenna OFDMA system for reverse-link (다중안테나를 고려한 직교 주파수 분할 다중 접속 방식의 역방향 부호화 성능 검증)

  • In this paper, link-level performance of a OFDMA technique, which has been considered as a standard for 802.16, 802.20, 3G-LTE, WiMax, and WiBro, is evaluated for next-generation wireless communication systems. While many researches have focused on uncoded forward-link performances, this paper provides a coded performance of a reverse-link OFDMA system. Performance degradation due to time offset among reverse-link users and frequency offset during FFT process is investigated. Transmitter and receiver antenna diversity techniques are used to overcome performance degradation. Performance of a OFDMA system is compared with a CDMA system in terms of FER and throughput to emphasize the advantage of OFDMA system for a reverse-link. Finally, under given specification, Eb/No required to achieve the maximum throughput of a reverse-link is proposed considering various coded rates and antenna permutations.

  • OFDM(A) 기반 네트워크는 IEEE 802.16e 시스템 및 WiBro 시스템 등으로 구현되고 있으며, 4G 시스템과 같은 차세대 이동통신 시스템의 기반 기술로서 많이 연구되고 있는 시스템이다. 이와 같은 OFDM(A) 시스템을 기반으로 IP 네트워크를 구축하게 된다면, 단말의 핸드오버를 지원하기 위하여 MAC 및 IP 계층에서의 핸드오버 기법에 대한 정의가 필요하다. IP 네트워크의 가장 큰 특징은 CDMA와 같은 서킷 네트워크가 아니라 패킷 네트워크라는 것이다. 이러한 패킷기반 네트워크에서의 소프트 핸드오버 기법은 CDMA 네트워크에서 제공되고 있는 소프트 핸드오버 기법을 그대로 적용할 수 없다. CDMA 소프트 핸드오버 기법은 물리계층에서의 신호 결합을 수행하게 되는데 패킷 네트워크에서 두 기지국으로부터 전송되는 패킷은 MAC 및 IP 헤더를 가지게 되고, 헤더에 포함되는 정보는 각 기지국에서 서로 다르게 전송하므로 물리계층에서의 신호 결합을 수행할 수가 없다. 본 논문에서는 기존에 제안된 소프트 핸드오버 기법의 단점을 보완하고 IP 기반 네트워크에 적용 가능한 소프트 핸드오버 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 소프트 핸드오버 기법은 패킷 네트워크의 특성을 반영하여 소프트 핸드오버에 참여하는 기지국이 서로 다른 패킷을 전송하도록 디자인하였고, 에러 발생률을 낮추기 위하여 AMC (Adaptive Modulation and Coding) 기법을 적용하였다. 또한 OFDM(A) 시스템의 multi-carrier 특성을 이용하여 네트워크 자원을 효율적으로 사용함으로써 네트워크의 전체적인 성능 향상이 가능하도록 개발되었다.

Performance Evaluation of Caching in PON-based 5G Fronthaul (PON기반 5G 프론트홀의 캐싱 성능 평가)

  • With the deployment of 5G infrastructure, content delivery network (CDN) will be a key role to provide explosive growing services for the independent media and YouTube which contain high-speed mobile contents. Without a local cache, the mobile backhaul and fronthaul should endure huge burden of bandwidth request for users as the increase number of direct accesses from contents providers. To deal with this issue, this paper fist presents both fronthaul solutions for CDN that use dark fibers and a passive optical network (PON). On top of that, we propose the aggregated content request specialized for PON caching and evaluate and compare its performance to legacy schemes through the simulation. The proposed PON caching scheme can reduce average access time of up to 0.5 seconds, 1/n received request packets, and save 60% of backhaul bandwidth compared to the no caching scheme. This work can be a useful reference for service providers and will be extended to further improve the hit ratio of cache in the future.

Implementation of G-Robot Framework using Fusion Technology (융복합기술을 활용한 G-Robot 프레임워크 구현)

  • In this paper, we propose G-Robot framework implemented with the fusion technology called RITS(Robot Technology & Information Technology System) for robot control and remote monitoring using the mobile phone. In our implemented system, the mobile phone mounted on the robot controls the robot and sends the images to the mobile phone of the user. We can monitor surrounding area of the robot with mobile phone and control the movement of the robot by sending the data between mobile-phones. Also, if the predefined situation occurs to the robot, the mobile phone on the robot sends the data to the mobile-phone of the user. From the experimental result, we can conclude that it's possible to control the robot and monitor surrounding area of the robot in real time in the region where the 3G(Generation) communication is possible. In addition, we can control the robot using the bluetooth instead of the mobile phone communication if the robot is in visual range.
