For autonomous navigation of the mobile robots, the robots' capability to recognize 3D environment is necessary. In this paper, an on-line 3D map building method for autonomous mobile robots is proposed. To get range data on the environment, we use a sensor system which is composed of a structured light and a CCD camera based on optimal triangulation. The structured laser is projected as a horizontal strip on the scene. The sensor system can rotate$\pm$30$^{\circ}$ with a goniometer. Scanning the system, we get the laser strip image for the environments and update planes composing the environment by some image processing steps. From the laser strip on the captured image, we find a center point of each column, and make line segments through blobbing these center points. Then, the planes of the environments are updated. These steps are done on-line in scanning phase. With the proposed method, we can efficiently get a 3D map about the structured environment.

3D human pose estimation is widely applied in various fields, including action recognition, sports analysis, and human-computer interaction. 3D human pose estimation has achieved significant progress with the introduction of convolutional neural network (CNN). Recently, several researches have proposed the use of multiview approaches to avoid occlusions in single-view approaches. However, as the number of cameras increases, a 3D pose estimation system relying on a CNN may lack in computational resources. In addition, when a single host system uses multiple cameras, the data transition speed becomes inadequate owing to bandwidth limitations. To address this problem, we propose a distributed real-time 3D pose estimation framework based on asynchronous multiple cameras. The proposed framework comprises a central server and multiple edge devices. Each multiple-edge device estimates a 2D human pose from its view and sendsit to the central server. Subsequently, the central server synchronizes the received 2D human pose data based on the timestamps. Finally, the central server reconstructs a 3D human pose using geometrical triangulation. We demonstrate that the proposed framework increases the percentage of detected joints and successfully estimates 3D human poses in real-time.

One of the main problems in 3D shape measuring systems that use the triangulation of line-shaped laser light is precise center line detection of line-shaped laser stripe. The intensity of a line-shaped laser light stripe on the CCD image varies following to the reflection angles, colors and shapes of objects. In this paper, a new center line detection algorithm to compensate the local intensity variation on a line-shaped laser light stripe is proposed. The 3-D surface shape measuring system using the proposed center line detection algorithm can measure 3-D surface shape with enhanced measurement resolution by using the dynamic shape reconstruction with adaptive pattern clustering of the line-shaped laser light. This proposed 3-D shape measuring system can be easily applied to practical situations of measuring 3-D surface by virtue of high speed measurement and compact hardware compositions.
Structured laser light is a widely used method for obtaining 3D range information in Machine Vision. However, The structured laser light method is based on assumption that the surface of objects is Lambertian. When the observed surfaces are highly specularly reflective, the laser light can be detected in various parts on the image due to a specular reflection and secondary reflection. This makes wrong range data and the image sensor unusable for the specular objects. To discriminate wrong range data from obtained image data, we have proposed a new algorithm by using the cross section of image block. To show the performance of the proposed method, a series of experiments was, carried out on: the simple geometric shaped objects. The proposed method shows a dramatic improvement of 3D range data better than the typical structured laser light method.

The measurement in the manufacturing process of curved ship hull plates still depends on wooden templates as a standard instrument. The metrology-enabled automation in the shipbuilding process has been challenged instead of line measurement with wooden templates. The developed measurement system consists of a CCD camera, multiple structured laser sources and 3-DOF motion device. The system carries out measurement of curved profiles for large scale plates by an optical triangulation method. The results of experiment conducted in a manufacturing shop demonstrate the accurate and robust performance.

In this study, we utilized various type of GPS observation measurements to get a camera projection center of the aerial triangulation and consequently to determine which type is acceptable. For the accuracy and the error analysis, comparison between a projection center from the conventional model adjustment and the result determined by the kinematic DGPS positioning which is fitted to the conventional model adjustment using 3D conformal transformation method has been made. The camera projection center is located within a $\pm{2m}$ for C/A code range measurements, $\pm{14cm}$ for L1 phase measurements and $\pm{10cm}$ for L1/L2 phase measurements with $1\sigma$. In this way, the accuracy of the camera projection center by the bundle block adjustment can be predicted.
Various scanning systems have been studied in many industrial areas to acquire a range data or to reconstruct an explicit 3D model. Currently optical technology has been used widely by virtue of noncontactness and high-accuracy. In this paper, we describe a 3D laser scanning system developped to reconstruct the 3D surface of a large-scale object such as a curved-plate of ship-hull. Our scanning system comprises of 4ch-parallel laser vision modules using a triangulation technique. For multi laser vision, calibration method based on least square technique is applied. In global scanning, an effective method without solving difficulty of matching problem among the scanning results of each camera is presented. Also minimal image processing algorithm and robot-based calibration technique are applied. A prototype had been implemented for testing.
A feature-based 3D modeling algorithm is presented in this paper. Since conventional methods use depth-based techniques, they need much time for the image matching to extract depth information. Even feature-based methods have less computation load than that of depth-based ones, the calculation of modeling error about whole pixels within a triangle is needed in feature-based algorithms. It also increase the computation time. Therefore, the proposed algorithm consists of three phases, which are an initial 3D model generation, model evaluation, and model refinement phases, in order to acquire an efficient 3D model. Intensity gradients and incremental Delaunay triangulation are used in the Initial model generation. In this phase, a morphological edge operator is adopted for a fast edge filtering, and the incremental Delaunay triangulation is modified to decrease the computation time by avoiding the calculation errors of whole pixels and selecting a vertex at the near of the centroid within the previous triangle. After the model generation, sparse vertices are matched, then the faces are evaluated with the size, approximation error, and disparity fluctuation of the face in evaluation stage. Thereafter, the faces which have a large error are selectively refined into smaller faces. Experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm could acquire an adaptive model with less modeling errors for both smooth and abrupt areas and could remarkably reduce the model acquisition time.

This paper describes an application of domain decomposition method for parallel finite element analysis which is required to large scale 3D structural analysis. A parallel finite element method system which adopts a domain decomposition method is developed. Node is generated if its distance from existing node points is similar to the node spacing function at the point. The node spacing function is well controlled by the fuzzy knowledge processing. The Delaunay triangulation method is introduced as a basic tool for element generation. Domain decomposition method using automatic mesh generation system holds great benefits for 3D analyses. Aa parallel numerical algorithm for the finite element analyses, domain decomposition method was combined with an iterative solver, i.e. the conjugate gradient(CG) method where a whole analysis domain is fictitiously divided into a number of subdomains without overlapping. Practical performance of the present system are demonstrated through several examples.
