The influences of chloride-free components of the cement additive: triethanolamine, triisopropanolamine, sodium hyposulfite and calcium gluconate on the 1d, 3d and 28d compressive strength of cement were investigated by response surface methodology. It found the early strength activators, triethanolamine and sodium hyposulfite could enhance the 1d strength of cement effectively but they did not contribute to the 3d strength enhancement, and further their interaction was able to decrease the 28d strength of cement. Calcium gluconate was not that effective for the strength enhancement on 3 and 28 days when it's simply dosed. However the interaction effect of calcium gluconate with triisopropanolamine could strongly favor the strength enhancement of cement after 3 days. Results indicated it was necessary to focus attention on the potential interactions among the chemical components. And for the concern of four chemicals studied in this paper, it was feasible to formulated a kind of chloride-free cement additive that can be effective for the early strength of cement and its the strength after 3 days.

The objective of the study is to improve the quality of wheel bearing hub by the rigid-plastic finite element analysis and the response surface methodology. The rigid-plastic finite element codes, AFDEX-2D and DEFORM-3D, were used to analyze the two-dimensional and three-dimensional forging processes, respectively. The response surface analysis is used to find the minimum underfill by the variation of design variables such as the height of billet after upsetting and punch angles of blocker dies. The metal flow of forged product shows good agreement with the results from 2D and 3D analysis. Also, the quality of the wheel bearing hub has been improved by the optimization of design variables and the machining time has been reduced by the machining allowance.

One and three dimensional whipping response analyses of a naval surface combatant subjected to an underwater explosion bubble pulse were carried out to compare the efficiency and accuracy according to the modeling methods. In 1-D analysis, program UNDEXWHIP developed by KIMM was used, which is based on the thin-walled Timoshenko's beam theory and on the modal analysis method using wetted vibratory modes of the hull girder. In 3-D analysis, three finite element models were suggested using LS-DYNA/USA code, such as 3-D beam model considering geometric shape of wetted side shell, coarse and fine 3-D F.E. models. Through the comparison of results from the 1-D and 3-D analyses, it could be confirmed that 1-D analysis result is in good agreement with 3-D analysis ones, and that fine 3-D F.E. model, shock analysis one, is also used both in the shock response and whipping response analyses for the analyst effort and time savings.

A dynamic fluid-structure-soil interaction analysis method is developed to investigate the effects of rocking motion on the seismic response of the 3-D flexible rectangular liquid storage tanks founded on the deformable ground. The governing equation of 3-D rectangular tanks subjected to the translational and rocking motions is obtained by Rayleigh-Ritz method. The dynamic stiffness matrix of the rigid surface foundation resting on the surface of a stratum are calculated by hyperelement method. The seismic responses of a 3-D flexible tank model founded on the deformable ground is calculated by combining the governing equation of the structural motion with the dynamic stiffness matrix of the rigid surface foundation.

The virtual Frisch-grid method for room-temperature radiation detectors has been widely used because of its simplicity and high performance. Recently, side electrodes were separately attached to each surface of the detectors instead of covering the entire detector surface with a single electrode. The side-electrode structure enables the measurement of the three-dimensional (3D) gamma-ray interaction in the detector. The positional information of the interaction can then be utilized to precisely calibrate the response of the detector for gamma-ray spectroscopy and imaging. In this study, we developed a 3D position-sensitive 5 × 5 × 12 mm3 cadmium-zinc-telluride (CZT) detector and applied a flattening method to correct detector responses. Collimated gamma-rays incident on the surface of the detector were scanned to evaluate the positional accuracy of the detection system. Positional distributions of the radiation interactions with the detector were imaged for quantitative and qualitative evaluation. The energy spectra of various radioisotopes were measured and improved by the detector response calibration according to the calculated positional information. The energy spectra ranged from 59.5 keV (emitted by 241Am) to 1332 keV (emitted by 60Co). The best energy resolution was 1.06% at 662 keV when the CZT detector was voxelized to 20 × 20 × 10.

A scanning electron microscope (SEM) is a complex system, consisting of many sophisticated components. For a systematic characterization, a $2^4$ full factorial experiment was conducted. The SEM components examined include condenser lens 1 and 2 (denoted as A and B, respectively), and Objective lens (coarse and fine-denoted as C and D respectively). A statistical analysis was conduced to investigate factor effects and variations In response surfaces. Among four factors, main effect analysis revealed that A and D were Identified as the dominant factor. Moreover, B showed conflicting effect against C. The $R^2$ of statistical regression model constructed was about 69.6%. The model generated 3D response surface plots facilitated understanding of complex tactor effects.

This paper presents the characteristics of the energy absorption in an expansion tube type impact absorber that is applied to a high weight drop tester and the use of a response surface methodology to predict the impact energy absorption. In order to identify the characteristics of the energy absorption, a set of finite element analysis was conducted with Abaqus Explicit. Moreover, the ISCD-II sampling method and a first order polynomial were used to build a response surface. As a result, we demonstrated that the impact energy could be controlled by four main design variables, namely an expansion pipe's thickness, inner radius, pressing die's expansion angle and expansion ratio. Additionally, we observed the relationship between the four main design variables and the impact energy absorbing time, displacement, and maximum impact force.

Response Surface Method (RSM) constructs approximate response surfaces using sample data from experiments or simulations and finds optimum levels of process variables within the fitted response surfaces of the interest region. It will be necessary to get the most suitable response surface for the accuracy of the optimization. The application of RSM plan experimental designs. The RSM is used in the sequential optimization process. The first goal of this study is to improve the plan of central composite designs of experiments with various locations of axial points. The second is to increase the optimal efficiency applying a modified method to update interest regions.

Background: The present study optimized ultrasound-assisted extraction conditions to maximize extraction yields of glycyrrhizic acid from licorice. Methods: The optimal extraction temperature ($X_1$), extraction time ($X_2$), and methanol concentration ($X_3$) were identified using response surface methodology (RSM). A central composite design (CCD) was used for experimental design and analysis of the results to obtain the optimal processing parameters. Results: Statistical analyses revealed that three variables and the quadratic of $X_1$, $X_2$, and $X_3$ had significant effects on the yields and were followed by significant interaction effects between the variables of $X_2$ and $X_3$ (p<0.01). A 3D response surface plot and contour plots derived from the mathematical models were applied to determine the optimal conditions. The optimum ultrasound-assisted extraction conditions were as follows: extraction temperature, $69^{\circ}C$; extraction time, 34?min; and methanol concentration, 57%. Under these conditions, the experimental yield of glycyrrhizic acid was 3.414%, which agreed closely with the predicted value (3.406%). Conclusion: The experimental values agreed with those predicted by RSM models, thus indicating the suitability of the model employed and the success of RSM in optimizing the extraction conditions.

The automobile is an important means of transportation. For this reason, the automotive wheel is also an important component in the automotive industry because it acts as a load support and is closely related to safety. Thus, the wheel design is a very important safety aspect. In this paper, an optimal design for minimizing automotive wheel stress and increasing wheel safety is described. To study the optimal design, a central composite design (CCD) and D-optimal design theory are applied, and the approximate function using the response surface method (RSM) is generated. The optimal solutions using the non-dominant sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) are then derived. Comparing CCD and D-optimal solution accuracy and verified the CCD can deduce more accuracy optimal solutions.
