In this paper, dual-polarized 2${\times}$2 array antenna is designed and fabricated for the polarization diversity applications in wireless LAN system. For the improved bandwidth and isolation characteristics, the aperture coupled feeding and the L-shaped probe feeding are employed for each polarization. The measured bandwidths of the fabricated antenna are 210MHz for aperture coupled feeding and 280MHz for L-shaped probe feeding. The isolation for two ports is -40dB and the antenna gain is measured as 14.3${\pm}$0.2dBi in the operating frequency band of wireless LAN.

This paper aims to optimize an access probe algorithm for the CDMA 2000 system. The incremental value of PWR_STEP increases as NUM_STEP as 1dBm±0.2 for access probe of the area with good receiving sensitivity when the mobile station transmits via access channel and does not receive any ACK message. However, for the area with weak receiving sensitivity, according to the algorithm of open-loop power control, the transmitting power amplifier becomes saturated and PWR_STEP incremental value keeps performing access probe to 0dBm±0.2. Therefore interference and battery consumption increases according to the transmission of the mobile station. We have optimized the access probe algorithm according to the receiving sensitivity. We transmit the incremental value of access probe power, with delaying as much RT slot value as indicated by IS-95C standard in case of good receiving sensitivity and with delaying RT+l slot value in case of weak receiving sensitivity. Simulation results showed that the proposed algorithm contributes to decrease of the interference and battery consumption according to the transmitting power of the mobile station and improves the call duration.
We report on the spatial information of a coupling laser transfer into a reflected probe laser; the transfer is achieved by means of electromagnetically induced transparency through a common excited state connected with $5S_{1/2}-5P_{1/2}(F=1{\rightarrow}F'=2)$ in the $^{87}Rb\;D_1$ line. When the coupling laser was spatially modulated as a stationary wave, the absorption of the probe laser was enhanced and the reflection of the probe laser was generated. When the coupling laser was spatially modulated by a mask, we observed that the reflection light of the probe laser was modulated as the shape of the mask. The Bragg reflection transferred the spatial information of the coupling laser. The reflection was approximately 7% of the incident power of the probe laser.

Newly developed Atom Probe Tomography (APT) technique can provide the highest available spatial resolution, 3D tomography imaging and quantitative chemical analysis in a sub-nm scale. As a complementary technique to APT, Nano-secondary ion Mass Spectroscopy (SIMS) also provides the boron distribution in micro-scale. Therefore, the exact behavior of boron at either grain boundary or grain interior in steels can be investigated by the combination of APT and SIMS techniques from the sub-nanometer scale to the micrometer scale. The results obtained by both APT and SIMS revealed that the boron atoms were mainly segregated to the grain boundaries rather than to the grain interior in the steels containing 50ppm and 100ppm boron. It also found that carbon atoms were segregated at the boron enriched regions, which were thought to be retained austenite phase due to the chemical composition of carbon atoms.

To clone genes related UK-58,852 production, genomic DNA of strain Actinodura roseorufa was used for the construction of genomic library using pOJ446 cosmid vector. The genomic library was screened rising dehydratase PCR product and eryA gene as a DNA hybridization probe. pHD54 was isolated, which contained an approximately 35kb of inserted DNA. BamHI, SmaI and sonicater fragments hybridized to eryA probe. All of pHD54 BgmHI, SmaI and sonicater fragments were subcloned into pGEM7 and some fragments which hybridized to eryA probe were sequenced. The nucleotide sequence was analysed using BLAST program. The sequence identities were observed in KS,AT, KR, ER and PKS loading domains. Also oxidoreductase showed similarity to rifamycin module10, and dTDP-D-glucose 4,6 dehydratase and TDP-D-glucose synthase involved in biosynthesis of sugar showed similarity to Streptomyces argillaceus.

The demand for three-dimensional (3D) shape measurements is increasing in a variety of fields, including the manufacture of molds and dies. The most popular technology for 3D shape measurement is the coordinate measuring machine (CMM) with a contact trigger probe. Although a CMM provides a high degree of accuracy, it is inefficient due to its long measuring time. It also has difficulty measuring soft objects that can be deformed by the touch of the contact probe. In addition, a CMM cannot digitize areas that are difficult to reach, and cannot capture very minute details on the surface of complex parts. For these reasons, optical non-contact measurement techniques are receiving more attention since they eliminate most of the problems associated with contact methods. Laser scanning is emerging as one of the more promising non-contact measurement techniques. This paper describes various acquisition considerations for laser scanning, including the accuracy of the 3D scan data, which depends on the charge-coupled device (CCD) gain and noise. The CCD gain and noise of a 3D laser scanner are varied while keeping the other conditions constant, and the measurement results are compared to the dimensions of a standard model. The experimental results show that a considerable time savings and an optimum degree of accuracy are possible by selecting the proper CCD gain and noise.

In this paper, a low-loss wideband waveguide transducer is proposed for millimeter-wave communication and radar applications. A conventional E-plane probe transducer is generally designed using thin and flexible substrate at millimeter-wave frequencies, considering the very small waveguide size. However, it results in serious performance degradation caused by the bending of the substrate. In order to alleviate this problem and provide a reliable performance, we propose an extended E-plane probe transducer where the probe substrate is extended to and fix ed in the slit area formed in the waveguide wall. It is fabricated using $127{\mu}m$-thick substrate with dielectric constant of 2.2. The measurement in the back-to-hack configuration shows the excellent insertion loss of 1.35 dB (${\pm}0.35dB$) including the loss of 3 cm-long thru waveguide and return loss better than 13.8 dB over entire W-band (75-110 GHz). Therefore, it can be effectively applied for millimeter-wave high-speed communications and high-sensitivity radars.

In this letter, a scheme for increasing the input power dynamic range of wavelength converters based on cross-gain modulation (XGM) in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA/s) is proposed. We investigate the effect of input pump and probe powers on the power penalty, the measure of performance for the wavelength converters. As a result, we show that the optimal bit error rate (BER) performance can be obtained when the probe power is kept 3 dB weaker than the pump power. Using this characteristic, we propose the wavelength converter scheme that controls the probe power level by monitoring the input pump power and adjusting the bias current of probe source accordingly. Consequently, the wavelength converter for wide input power dynamic range can be implemented. We show that an input power dynamic range of more than 20 dB at 2.5 Gb/s is achievable.

This paper proposed an efficient manufacturing system using the OMM (on-machine measurement) system. The OMM system is software-based 3D modeler for inspection on machine, and it is interfaced with machine tools via RS232C. The software is composed of two inspection modules; one is touch probe operating module, and the other is laser displacement sensor operating module. The module for touch probe needs the inspection feature extracted from CAD data. The touch probe moves to workpiece by three operating modes as follows: manual, general and automatic mode. The operating module of the laser displacement sensor is used to inspect profiles and very small holes. An advantage of this inspection method is the ability to execute on-line inspection during machining or afterward. The efficiency of proposed system which can predict and define the machining errors of each process was verified, so the developed system was applied to inspect a mold-base (cavity, core).

Modern communication systems employ wideband antennas with circular polarization (CP) radiation. In this work, asymmetric modified bow-tie (ABT) and symmetric modified bow-tie (SBT) slotted circularly polarized single-point probe-fed circular patch antennas with dimensions of $40mm{\times}40mm$ for wideband applications are proposed. A 10 dB RL bandwidth of 350 MHz with CP, 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 100 MHz, peak gain of 4.9 dBic, and 10 dB RL bandwidth of 530 MHz with CP, 3 dB AR bandwidth of 140 MHz, peak gain of 5 dBic are obtained for ABT and SBT slotted circular patch antennas, respectively. The proposed SBT slotted patch is scaled up and down to $50mm{\times}50mm$ and $30mm{\times}30mm$, respectively. The proposed scaled-up version offers 10 dB RL and 3 dB AR bandwidths of 340 MHz and 80 MHz, with a peak gain of 5 dBic. The scaled-down version offers 10 dB RL and 3 dB AR bandwidths of 710 MHz and 180 MHz, with a peak gain of 5.25 dBic. These prototypes are suitable to work in IEEE 802.11a WLAN, ISM, and IEEE 802.11ac applications. The measured and simulated results are then discussed and compared.
