In this study, we demonstrated multimodal nonlinear optical (NLO) microscopy integrated simultaneously with two-photon excitation fluorescence (TPEF), second-harmonic generation (SHG), and coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) in order to obtain targeted cellular and label-free images in an immunofluorescence assay of the atherosclerotic aorta from apolipoprotein E-deficient mice. The multimodal NLO microscope used two laser systems: picosecond (ps) and femtosecond (fs) pulsed lasers. A pair of ps-pulsed lights served for CARS (817 nm and 1064 nm) and SHG (817 nm) images; light from the fs-pulsed laser with the center wavelength of 720 nm was incident into the sample to obtain autofluorescence and targeted molecular TPEF images for high efficiency of fluorescence intensity without cross-talk. For multicolor-targeted TPEF imaging, we stained smooth-muscle cells and macrophages with fluorescent dyes (Alexa Fluor 350 and Alexa Fluor 594) for an immunofluorescence assay. Each depth-sectioned image consisted of $512{\times}512$ pixels with a field of view of $250{\times}250{\mu}m^2$, a lateral resolution of $0.4{\mu}m$, and an axial resolution of $1.3{\mu}m$. We obtained composite multicolor images with conventional label-free NLO images and targeted TPEF images in atherosclerotic-plaque samples. Multicolor 3-D imaging of atherosclerotic-plaque structural and functional composition will be helpful for understanding the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease.

Recently, we have remarkable developments in intelligent robot systems. The remarkable features of intelligent robot are that it can track user, does face recognition and vital for many surveillance based systems. Advantage of face recognition when compared with other biometrics recognition is that coerciveness and contact that usually exist when we acquire characteristics do not exist in face recognition. However, the accuracy of face recognition is lower than other biometric recognition due to decrease in dimension from of image acquisition step and various changes associated with face pose and background. Factors that deteriorate performance of face recognition are many such as distance from camera to face, lighting change, pose change, and change of facial expression. In this paper, we implement a new 3D active camera system to prevent various pose variation that influence face recognition performance and propose face recognition algorithm for intelligent surveillance system and mobile robot system.

Rice paper is an element of Vietnamese cuisine that can be used to wrap vegetables and meat. Rice and starch are the main ingredients of rice paper and their mixing ratio is important for quality control. In a commercial factory, assessment of food safety and quantitative supply is a challenging issue. A rapid and non-destructive monitoring system is therefore necessary in commercial production systems to ensure the food safety of rice and starch flour for the rice paper wrap. In this study, fluorescence hyperspectral imaging technology was applied to classify grain flours. Using the 3D hyper cube of fluorescence hyperspectral imaging (fHSI, 420 - 730 nm), spectral and spatial data and chemometric methods were applied to detect and classify flours. Eight flours (rice: 4, starch: 4) were prepared and hyperspectral images were acquired in a 5 (L) × 5 (W) × 1.5 (H) cm container. Linear discriminant analysis (LDA), partial least square discriminant analysis (PLSDA), support vector machine (SVM), classification and regression tree (CART), and random forest (RF) with a few preprocessing methods (multivariate scatter correction [MSC], 1st and 2nd derivative and moving average) were applied to classify grain flours and the accuracy was compared using a confusion matrix (accuracy and kappa coefficient). LDA with moving average showed the highest accuracy at A = 0.9362 (K = 0.9270). 1D convolutional neural network (CNN) demonstrated a classification result of A = 0.94 and showed improved classification results between mimyeon flour (MF)1 and MF2 of 0.72 and 0.87, respectively. In this study, the potential of non-destructive detection and classification of grain flours using fHSI technology and machine learning methods was demonstrated.

Next Highly sophisticated communication generation of the Advanced Electronics and Imaging processing society will require a vast information volume and super high speed signal transport and information instruction. This means that super high technology should be created for satisfying the demand. It's also required the high reliability of the communication system itself, It will be supported the new advanced packaging technology of the 3 Dimensional structured system and system integration technology. Here is introduced the new 3 Dimensional technology for IC nnd LSI packaging and Opt-electronics Packaging of ASET activity in Japan.
In the past, mosaics were made by laying cloth on the floor and manually tiling the tiles. However, due to recent developments in technology, the data storage method has evolved from analog to digital, so that image representation and conversion can be realized through computer. Also, various expression techniques of mosaic are developed, and it is also used as a method of art representation in digital. There are various studies on the production process of mosaic. The proposed method is a crystallization mosaic that spreads spirally in real time and uses 3D quartz as a tile element. Although existing researches are mostly focused on the purpose of rendering images in more detail, this technique combines untried spiral drawing and crystallization, and attempts to explore new expression techniques in 3D space by attempting a new mosaic method in 3D space. 'Spiral Crystallization Photo', based on this technique, was selected as Top27 in MWU Award 18 and exhibited at Unite Seoul 2018.

3D CAD technology has been extended to a medical area including dental clinic beyond industrial design. The 2D images obtained by CT(Computerized Tomography) and MRI(Magnetic Resonance Imaging) are not intuitive, and thus the volume rendering technique, which transforms 2D data into 3D anatomic information, has been in practical use. This paper has focused on a method and its implementation for forming 3D geometric surface model from laminated CT images of the pubis. The implemented system could support a dental clinic to observe and examine the status of a patient's pubis before implant surgery. The supplement of 3D implant model would help dental surgeons settle operation plans more safely and confidently. It also would be utilized with teaching materials for a practice and training.
BACKGROUND: Two-dimensional (2D) transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is commonly used for assessing patients undergoing transcatheter atrial septal defect (ASD) device closure. 3D TEE, albeit providing high resolution en-face images of ASD, is used in only a fraction of cases. We aimed to perform a comparative analysis between 3D and 2D TEE assessment for ASD device planning. METHODS: This was a prospective, observational study conducted over a period of one year. Patients deemed suitable for device closure underwent 2D and 3D TEE at baseline. Defect characteristics, assessed separately in both modalities, were compared. Using regression analysis, we aimed to derive an equation for predicting device size using 3D TEE parameters. RESULTS: Thirty patients were included in the study, majority being females (83%). The mean age of the study population was 40.5 ± 12.05 years. Chest pain, dyspnea and palpitations were the common presenting complaints. All patients had suitable rims on 2D TEE. A good agreement was noted between 2D and 3D TEE for measured ASD diameters. 3D TEE showed that majority of defects were circular in shape (60%). The final device size used had high degree of correlation with 3D defect area and circumference. An equation was devised to predict device size using 3D defect area and circumference. The mean device size obtained from the equation was similar to the actual device size used in the study population (p = 0.31). CONCLUSIONS: Device sizing based on 3D TEE parameters alone is equally effective for transcatheter ASD closure as compared to 2D TEE.
This study aimed to suggest a novel method of modeling a hearing aid ear shell based on Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine (DICOM) in the hearing aid ear shell manufacturing method using a 3D printer. In the experiment, a 3D external auditory meatus was extracted by using the critical values in the DICOM volume images, and the modeling surface structures were compared in standard type STL (STereoLithography) files which could be recognized by a 3D printer. In this 3D modeling method, a conventional ear model was prepared, and the gaps between adjacent isograms produced by a 3D scanner were filled with 3D surface fragments to express the modeling structure. In this study, the same type of triangular surface structures were prepared by using the DICOM images. The result showed that the modeling surface structure based on the DICOM images provide the same environment that the conventional 3D printers may recognize, eventually enabling to print out the hearing aid ear shell shape.
In 3D computer graphics, a depth map is an image that provides information related to the distance from the viewpoint to the subject's surface. Stereo sensors, depth cameras, and imaging systems using an active illumination system and a time-resolved detector can perform accurate depth measurements with their own light sources. The 3D image information obtained through the depth map is useful in 3D modeling, autonomous vehicle navigation, object recognition and remote gesture detection, resolution-enhanced medical images, aviation and defense technology, and robotics. In addition, the depth map information is important data used for extracting and restoring multi-view images, and extracting phase information required for digital hologram synthesis. This study is oriented toward a recent research trend in deep learning-based 3D data analysis methods and depth map information extraction technology using a convolutional neural network. Further, the study focuses on 3D image processing technology related to digital hologram and multi-view image extraction/reconstruction, which are becoming more popular as the computing power of hardware rapidly increases.
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) has been used to image inside concrete specimens embedded with steel bars and delamination. An imaging algorithm has been developed to improve measurement output generated from a commercial radar system. For the experiments, laboratory size concrete specimens are made with the dimensions of $1,000mm(W){\times}1,000mm(L){\times}250mm(D)$. The results have shown improved output of the radar measurements compared to commercially available processing methods.
