  • The objective of this study was to analyze the effects of homogenization, storage temperature, and storage period on the creaming of milk fat and changes in fat contents in the upper and lower layers and to predict the conditions for optimal homogenization efficiency using response surface methodology (RSM). The homogenization pressure, storage temperature, and storage period were set as independent variables of RSM, and the dependent variables were creaming, US Public Health Service (USPHS) code, and volume weighted mean diameter ($D_{4,3}$) in the upper and lower layers. Based on the results of RSM and regression analysis, the correlation coefficient ($R^2$) between experimental data and predicted values by RSM for homogenized milk was estimated to be more than 0.8. The RSM analysis indicated that optimal homogenization pressures of 14 MPa or more and 17 MPa or more were required to maintain the creaming layer of 3 mm or less during the storage for 15 days at $10^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$, respectively. To keep the USPHS code at less than 10% for 15 days at $10^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$, milk should be homogenized with a pressure of 16.8 MPa or more and 17 MPa or more, respectively.

  • This paper provides an assessment of fluid transport and mixing processes inside the primary circuit of the test facility ROCOM through the numerical simulation of Test 2.1 with the system code ATHLET. The experiment represents an asymmetric injection of cold and non-borated water into the reactor coolant system (RCS) of a pressurized water reactor (PWR) to restore core cooling, an emergency procedure which may subsequently trigger a core re-criticality. The injection takes place at low velocity under single-phase subcooled conditions and presents a major challenge for the simulation in lumped parameter codes, due to multidimensional effects in horizontal piping and vessel arising from density gradients and gravity forces. Aiming at further validating ATHLET 3-D capabilities against horizontal geometries, the experiment conditions are applied to a ROCOM model, which includes a newly developed horizontal pipe object to enhance code prediction inside coolant loops. The obtained results show code strong simulation capabilities to represent multidimensional flows. Enhanced prediction is observed at the vessel inlet compared to traditional 1-D approach, whereas mixing overprediction from the descending denser plume is observed at the upper-half downcomer region, which leads to eventual deviations at the core inlet.

  • In the relationship between the shareholding ratio of National Pension Service (NPS) and the investee firm's value, this study examined the mediating effect of R&D expenditure which its increase can indirectly induce the increase of firm value, and examined the moderated mediation effect of the Stewardship Code implementation which pressures investee firms' to increase R&D expenditure and firm value. Using the Korean listed companies' data from 2016 to 2021, the analysis showed that the R&D expenditure had a partial mediation effect on the relationship between NPS's shareholding ratio and firm value. Also, the analysis showed that the NPS's Stewardship Code implementation had positive moderating effects on following relationships, one between NPS's shareholding ratio and R&D expenditure, and the other between NPS's shareholding ratio and firm value. In all, on the relationship between NPS's shareholding ratio and firm value, the R&D expenditure's mediation effect differs before and after the implementation of the stewardship code, which shows the moderated mediation effect.

  • In this paper, we propose a decoding scheme that can apply to a three dimensional turbo product code(TPC) with a single parity check code(SPC). In general, SPC is used an axis with shortest code length in order to maximize a code rate of the TPC. However, SPC does not have any error correcting capability, therefore, the error correcting capability of the three-dimensional TPC results in little improvement in comparison with the two-dimensional TPC. We propose two schemes to improve performance of three dimensional TPC decoder. One is $min^*$-sum algorithm that has advantages for low complexity implementation compared to Chase-Pyndiah algorithm. The other is a modified serial iterative decoding scheme for high performance. In addition, the simulation results for the proposed scheme are shown and compared with the conventional scheme. Finally, we introduce some practical considerations for hardware implementation.

  • The optical properties of PDP, such as the transmittance and reflectance, were analyzed with 3D optical code. Three different ITO-less structures in the front panel are examined. In the assembled panel study, the test 1 structure shows 16.6% and 10.2% higher reflectance than the structures of tests 2 and 3, respectively. In order to check the validation of the simulation result, three 7.5-inch test panels having the same geometry and property are fabricated as simulation models. The calculated reflective properties are compared to the measured data from real panels. The relative difference extracted from the simulation and measurement methods is less than 4.9% and are well matched.

  • Adaptive transmission techniques can improve the performance of wireless communication system by adaptively changing the transmission parameter such as modulation, code-rate, and power according to the channel state. For orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system, the adaptive transmission techniques can be applied to each subcarrier unit. In this paper, we consider the adaptive code-rate OFDM system in which optimal code-rate is applied to each subcarrier according to the subchannel state. Performance analysis show that $3\sim6$dB gain of SNR or up to $30\sim50\%$ increase of data rate are achieved in the condition of bit error rate $10^{-6}$.

  • The subchannel analysis capability of MARS, a multi-dimensional thermal-hydraulic system code, has been enhanced. In particular, the turbulent mixing and void drift models for the flow-mixing phenomena in rod bundles were improved. Then, the subchannel analysis feature was combined with the existing coupled system thermal-hydraulics (T/H) and 3D reactor kinetics calculation capability of MARS. These features allow for more realistic simulations of both the hot channel behavior and the global system T/H behavior. Using the coupled features of MARS, a coupled analysis of a main steam line break (MSLB) is carried out for demonstration purposes. The results of the calculations are very reasonable and promising.
