  • Geo-features play a key role in object-oriented or feature-based geo-processing system. So the strategy for how-to-model and how-to-manage the geo-features builds the main architecture of the entire system and also supports the efficiency and functionality of the system. Unlike the conventional 2D geo-processing system, geo-features in 3D GIS have lots to be considered to model regarding the efficient manipulation and analysis and visualization. When the system is running on the Web, it should also be considered that how to leverage the level of detail and the level of automation of modeling in addition to the support for client side data interoperability. We built a set of 3D geo-features, and each geo-feature contains a set of aspatial data and 3D geo-primitives. The 3D geo-primitives contain the fundamental modeling data such as the height of building and the burial depth of gas pipeline. We separated the additional modeling data on the geometry and appearance of the model from the fundamental modeling data to make the table in database more concise and to allow the users more freedom to represent the geo-object. To get the users to build and exchange their own data, we devised a fie format called VGFF 2.0 which stands for Virtual GIS File Format. It is to describe the three dimensional geo-information in XML(extensible Markup Language). The DTD(Document Type Definition) of VGFF 2.0 is parsed using the DOM(Document Object Model). We also developed the authoring tools for users can make their own 3D geo-features and model and save the data to VGFF 2.0 format. We are now expecting the VGFF 2.0 evolve to the 3D version of SVG(Scalable Vector Graphics) especially for 3D GIS on the Web.

  • Fire accidents in buildings are reported more frequently nowadays. Existing building fire accidents can lead to large-scale accidents as damage to human and physical resources increases over time, so it is necessary to quickly find ways to suppress fires and rescue them. Currently, more attention is being paid to new buildings than the existing buildings. In addition, fire information can not be captured in a real time basis for the buildings. In line with the demands of this technology, this study presents a quick and systematic fire management method to minimize damage caused by fire in buildings. As a way to achieve the purpose of the study, ArduinoTM sensors and ExcelTM and RevitTM-DynamoTM tools have been combined to develop a new fire information management system and develop a real-time 3D visualization model. It is expected to contribute to the real-time smart fire management system by proposing a fire management application as a way to utilize it in the future.

  • Recently, for the purpose of maintenance of facilities and energy, there have been growing cases of the 3D image scan-based reverse design technology mostly in the manufacturing field. In the MEP field, because of differences between design and physical model, the reverse technology has been utilized in factory facilities such as a semiconductor factory. Because 3D point clouds from scanning include accurate 3D object information, the efficiency of management works related to the complex MEP facilities can be enhanced. In this study, the reverse technology was surveyed, and the MEP facility management based on 3D image scanning was analyzed. Based on the results, a method of 3D image scan-based MEP facility management was proposed.

  • Recently, many researches have been conducted to develop 3D Indoor/Outdoor Spatial Data Models. The 3D data created based on these data models have complex data structures. In order to manage these data efficiently, it is better to use a DBMS. There have been many researches to maintain the 3D data in Geo-DBMS, such that Oosterom (2002) and Arens (2005) developed a method to store 3D Building model, geometric and topological data of coverage in DBMSa. In this study, we propose a method to store the CityGML data into the RDBMS, Oracle Spatial 11g.

  • In recent years, large and complex three-dimensional building has been constructed by the development of building technology and advanced IT skills, and people have lived there and spent a considerable time so far. Accordingly. in this sophisticatcd three-dimensional space, emergencies services or convenient information services have been in demand. In order to provide these services efficiently, understanding of topological relationships among the complex space should be supported naturally. Not on1y each method of understanding the topological relationships but also its efficiency can be different depending on different topological data models. B-rep based data model is the most widely used for storaging and representing of topological relationships. And from early 2000s, many researches on a network based topological data model have been conducted. The purpose of this study is to verify the efficiency of performance on spatial queries. As a result, Network-based topological data model is more efficient than B-rep based data model for determining the spatial relationship.

  • The process of construction industry basically consists of many complicated phase, such as planning, design, construction, MO&R(Maintenance, Operation, and Repair), and deconstruction. And various participants communicate each other during every phase of process. Since construction components have become more complex and diverse recently, many researches on how to exchange and standardization of building. However, in Korea research on IFC(Industry Foundation Classes) which is a standard for international data exchange have been conducted with only study limited Issues, such as studies on the development of 2D extension model for IFC, researches on 3D or 4D based IFC extension, and etc. This stuff covers tests of the compatibility among commercial 3D CAD programs using IFC file format. Several problems of the current IFC model are retrieved as a result.

  • The adoption of smart construction technology in the construction industry is progressing rapidly. By utilizing smart construction technologies such as BIM (Building Information Modeling), drones, artificial intelligence, big data, and Internet of Things technology, it has the effect of lowering the accident rate at the construction site and shortening the construction period. In order to introduce a digital twin platform for construction site management, real-time construction site management is possible in real time by constructing the same virtual space. The digital twin virtual space construction method collects and processes data from the entire construction cycle and visualizes it using a 3D model file. In this paper, we introduce a modeling automation technique that constructs an efficient digital twin space by automatically generating 3D modeling that composes a digital twin space based on 3D spatial data.

  • The BIM called information modeling is used by tool not only it will simply be appearing the image and can save the information. Recently, there is a lot of case that improves the construction productivity by using the BIM during the life cycle of bridge from order to management. Although we already recognize the advantage of BIM, it is a careful phase to use the BIM. Therefore, We made the BIM for bridge, evaluated the possibility that can build the object used in the civil engineer, studied about the utility, the improvement in order to use the BIM properly. As a result, the BIM can recycle the information by using parametric model and attribute the efficiency and accuracy on drawing and calculating the quantity. The BIM is able to help productivity increase by using the builded model after we spend the effort building a model in early stage.

  • Recently, BIM has been actively adopted in construction projects and industries, and also integrated with Information and Communications Technology(ICT) such as cloud computing technology, sensor technology, 3D scanning and printing technology etc. However, it is very difficult to efficiently utilize BIM services, technologies and collaborate with each other because of differences of usage and requirements of technologies. Every participant in the same construction project has their own needs, requirements and details of the model in each phase. In order to enhance utilization BIM model, BIM services and technologies required in their project have to be clearly defined in the initial stage of the project. In order to support the owner to define the BIM level, BIM service level and application technologies are identified and guidelines how to define the level and technologies for their project purpose are suggested in this study.
