Numerical Study on the Effect of the Arrangement Type of Rotor Sail on Lift Formation (로터세일의 배열 형태가 양력 형성에 미치는 영향에 관한 수치해석적 연구)

  • Recently, the international community, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO), has strengthened regulations on air pollution emissions of ships, and eco-friendly ships are actively being developed to reduce exhaust gas emissions. Among them, rotor sail (RS), a wind-assisted ship propulsion system, is attracting attention again. RS is a cylindrical device installed on the ship deck, that generates hydrodynamic lift using a magnus effect. This is a next generation eco-friendly auxiliary propulsion technology, and Enercon company, which developed RS-applied ships, announced that fuel savings of more than 30% are possible. In this study, optimal installation conditions such as RS spacing and arrangement type were selected when multiple RSs were installed on ships. AR=5.1, SR=1.0, and De/D was fixed at 2.0 according to the RS arrangement, and the wind direction was considered only for the unidirectional +y-axis. Regarding arrangement conditions, five conditions were set at 3D intervals in the +x-axis direction from 3D to 15D and five conditions in the +y-axis direction from 5D to 25D. CL, CD and aerodynamic efficiency (CL/CD) were compared according to the square(□) and diamond(◇) shape arrangements. Consequently, the effect of RS on the longitudinal distance was not significantly different. However, in the case of RS flow characteristics according to the transverse distance, the interaction effect of RS was the greatest when the two RSs almost matched the wind direction. In the case of the RS flow characteristics according to the arrangement, notably, when the wind blew in the forward (0°) direction, the diamond (◇) arrangement was least affected by the backward flow between RSs.

  • Spacer is used between main tank and auxiliary tank for on load tap changer in gas insulated power transformer. This paper deals with electrical design of spacer and discusses different analysis method of between 2D FEM(finite element method) and 3D FEM. To design spacer, we modeled structure of two kind of coaxial cylinders of spacer conductors and analysised electric field of spacer at impulse and induced test voltage condition. Spacer has 13 conductors and electric field was changed according to arrangement of conductors. We could find out arrangement of conductors at which electric stress is minimum. And this arrangement was satisfied with actual test conditions.

  • A new stereoscopic PIV is introduced. The system works with CCD cameras, stereoscopic photogrammetry, and a 3D-PTV principle. Virtual images are produced for the construction of a benchmark testing tool of PIV techniques. The arrangement of the two cameras is based on angular position. The calibration of cameras and the pair-matching of the three-dimensional velocity vectors are based on 3D-PTV technique.

  • In order to minimize the impact on the structure during an internal explosion, the explosives storage must be kept at a distance from the inner wall to prevent the sympathetic detonation of the others explosives in an unexpected explosion. For safe explosives storage, a gap test was conducted by simulating the split arrangement of explosives inside the storage. In this study, the separation distance and arrangement between the emulsion explosives were applied differently to be sympathetic detonation at 2D of diameter and non-detonated at 2.5D. Considering the coefficient of detonation transmission and the size of the explosives storage, the explosive amount of 3kg was set, and most of the gap tests according to various arrangement changes were non-detonated, and safety was confirmed when applying the batch.

  • The This research paper deals with research on the 3D strip layout design of HEV UV terminal by utilizing the Cimatron Die Design, an automation module. To ensure smooth stamping of the product, strip layout was corrected for 33.5 degrees of slope, and blank layout of the double-width, 1-line, 1-pull out inner carrier was then optimized as a single arrangement. To mass-produce two different terminals from one common die, 3D strip layout design and die design were completed in 29 different processes.

  • Multi A/C is consisted of one outdoor unit and several indoor units. When the Multi Air conditioner is installed, we have to be cautious of the length of pipe arrangements. When the pipe arrangement is installed with unbalance or too long, there can be cooling capacity losses and low EER. An experimental study was carried out about the operation characteristic of Multi Air conditioner varying the length of pipe arrangements. If the pipe arrangement of the system is 15m, the cooling capacity and EER were decreased 0.8% and 1.3% respectively compared to the case when pipe arrangement is 5m. In case of 25m, the cooling capacity and EER were decreased 10.7% and 12.2% respectively compared to the case of 5m. When the length of pipe is not same each other, it is profitable to make the pipe length of highest capacity indoor unit shortest.

  • In this paper, we propose a 3D view design scheme which arranges 2D information in a 3D virtual space with a flexible interface and voice information. The scheme allows the user interface of the 2D image in 3D virtual space anytime from any view point. Voice information can be easily attached. It is this simple and efficient image and voice information arrangement in 3D virtual space that improves information transfer.

  • Vortex-induced vibration of three circular cylinders (each of diameter D) in an equilateral triangular arrangement is investigated using the immersed boundary method. The cylinders, with one placed upstream and the other two side-by-side downstream, are free to vibrate in the cross-flow direction. The cylinder center-to-center spacing L is adopted as L/D = 2.0. Other parameters include the Reynolds number Re = 100, mass ratio $m^*=2.0$, reduced velocity $U_r=2{\sim}15$ and damping ratio ${\zeta}=0$. Cylinder vibration responses are dependent on $U_r$ and classified into five regimes, i.e. Regime I ($U_r{\leq}3.2$), Regime II ($3.2<U_r{\leq}5.0$), Regime III ($5.0<U_r{\leq}6.4$), Regime IV ($6.4<U_r{\leq}9.2$) and Regime V ($U_r>9.2$). Different facets of vibration amplitude, hydrodynamic forces, wake patterns and displacement spectra are extracted and presented in detail for each regime.

  • Longitudinal shell member that arranged block unit on 3D-curved surface is performed manual working by designer considering spacing of division characteristic, location and twisting at geometrical 3-dimensional form. Shell expansion drawing that drawn by initial design and shell landing work performed by hull production design have overlap of design work in terms of arrangement of shell longitudinal member. In this study, eliminate design overlap on shell member arrangement that is one of ship longitudinal member. Develop shell member optimization and auto arrangement system.

  • This paper deals with a vibration and efficiency characteristics of Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor according to the PM arrangement. The generated force such as the thrust, detent force, normal force and lateral force are compared with analysis values and experimental ones. Furthermore characteristics of vibration and efficiency are estimated by experiments.
