Porcine spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) prefer three-dimensional (3D) culture systems to 2D ones for the maintenance of self-renewal. Of the many 3D culture systems, agar-based hydrogels are candidates for supporting porcine SSC self-renewal, and there are various types of agar powder that can be used. In this study, we sought to identify an agar-based 3D hydrogel system that exhibited strong efficacy in the maintenance of porcine SSC self-renewal. First, 3D hydrogels with different mechanics were prepared with various concentrations of Bacto agar, lysogeny broth (LB) agar, and agarose powder, and the 3D hydrogel with the strongest alkaline phosphatase (AP) activity and greatest increase in colony size was identified for the different types of agar powder. Second, among the porcine SSCs cultured in the different 3D hydrogels, we analyzed the colony formation, morphology, and size; AP activity; and transcription and translation of porcine SSC-related genes, and these were compared to determine the optimal 3D hydrogel system for the maintenance of porcine SSC self-renewal. We found that 0.6% (w/v) Bacto agar-, 1% (w/v) LB agar-, and 0.2% (w/v) agarose-based 3D hydrogels showed the strongest maintenance of AP activity and the most pronounced increase in colony size in the culture of porcine SSCs. Moreover, among these hydrogels, the strongest transcription and translation of porcine SSC-related genes and largest colony size were detected in porcine SSCs cultured in the 0.2% (w/v) agarose-based 3D hydrogel, whereas there were no significant differences in colony formation and morphology. These results demonstrate that the 0.2% (w/v) agarose-based 3D hydrogel can be effectively used for the maintenance of porcine SSC self-renewal.
In this work, pure W and W-0.5wt%HfC alloy (WHC05) were fabricated by sintering and hot-rolling following the same processing route. After exposing to a high flux deuterium plasma irradiation with the D+ flux to three fluences of 6.00 × 1024, 2.70 × 1025 and 7.02 × 1025 D/m2, the evolution of surface morphology, deuterium retention and hardening behaviors in pure W and WHC05 has been studied. The SEM results show the formation of D blisters on the irradiated area, and with the increase of D implantation, the size of these blisters increases from 200 ~ 500 nm (2.70 × 1025 D/m2) to 1 ~ 2 ㎛ (7.02 × 1025 D/m2) in WHC05 and from 1 ~ 2 ㎛ (2.70 × 1025 D/m2) to > 3 ㎛ (7.02 × 1025 D/m2) in pure W, respectively. A higher D retention and obvious hardening are observed in pure W than that of the WHC05 alloy, indicating an improve radiation resistance in WHC05 compared to pure W.
The enantiomeric and racemic effects of tartaric acid (TA) on the properties of polysulfone (PSn) ultrafiltration membranes were studied in terms of morphology and hydrophilicity (HPCT) of membrane. Asymmetric membranes were prepared by direct blending of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) with D-TA and DL-TA in membrane casting solution. FTIR analysis was done for the confirmation of the reaction of PVP and TA in blended membranes and plain PSn membranes. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used for analyzing the morphology and structure of the resulting membranes. The membranes were characterized in terms of pure water flux (PWF), hydraulic permeability and HPCT. PWF increased from $52L/m^2h$ to $79.9L/m^2h$ for plain and D-TA containing PSn membrane, respectively. Water contact angle also found to be decreased from $68^{\circ}$ to $55^{\circ}$. In Additionally, permeation and rejection behavior of prepared membranes was studied by bovine serum albumin (BSA) solution. A considerable increase in BSA flux (from $19.1L/m^2h$ for plain membrane to $32.1L/m^2h$ for D-TA containing membrane) was observed. FESEM images affirm that the pore size of the membranes decreases and the membrane permeability increases from 0.16 to 0.32 by the addition of D-TA in the membrane. D-TA increases the HPCT whereas; DL-TA decreases the HPCT of PSn membrane. PVP (average molecular weight of 40000 Da) with D-TA (1 wt%) gave best performance among all the membranes for each parameter.

Objective: CBCT has become popular for orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning in recent times. The 3D pharyngeal airway space needs to be analysed using a 3D diagnostic tool. The aim of this study was to analyse the pharyngeal airway of different craniofacial morphology using CBCT. Methods: The sample compromised 102 subjects divided into 3 groups (Class I, II, III) and 6 subgroups according to normal or vertical craniofacial patterns. All samples had CBCT (VCT, Vatech, Seoul, Korea) taken for orthodontic treatment. The pharyngeal airway was assessed according to the reference planes: aa plane (the most anterior point on the anterior arch of atlas), $CV_2$ plane, and $CV_3$ plane (most infero-anterior point on the body of the second & third cervical vertebra). The intergroup comparison was performed with one-way ANOVA and duncan test as a second step. Results: The results showed the pharyngeal airway and anteroposterior width of group 2 (Class II) in aa plane, $CV_2$ plane, $CV_3$ plane were significant narrower than in group 3 (Class III). There was no significant difference between vertical and normal craniofacial patterns except for the anteroposterior pharyngeal width of Group 1 (Class I) in aa plane. Conclusions: Subjects with Class II patterns have a significantly narrower pharyngeal airway than those with Class III. However there was no difference in pharyngeal airway between vertical and normal craniofacial morphology.

This study applies various surface patterns to minimize material loss in construction equipment that is subject to severe wear due to sand, such as the wear-resistant steel plates of dump trucks or the teeth of excavators. The relationship between surface morphology and wear behavior is investigated using PLA+ polymer to observe the effect of the surface pattern. Five types of samples - smooth, concave, convex, wavy concave, and wavy convex designs - are created using a 3D printer. A wear experiment is conducted for a duration of 3 h using 6.5 kg of abrasive particles. The mass loss of the samples after the experiment is measured to assess the extent of wear. Additionally, the surface morphology of the samples before and after the experiment is analyzed using SEM and confocal microscopy. The study results reveal that the smooth design exhibits the highest wear loss, whereas the concave and wavy concave designs show relatively lower wear loss. The convex and wavy convex designs exhibit varying contact areas with the abrasive particles depending on the surface pattern, resulting in different levels of wear. Furthermore, a comparison between the experimental results and DEM simulations confirms the observed wear trends. This study reveals the relationship between wear damage according to surface pattern shape and is expected to be of substantial help in the analysis of wear and tear on agricultural and heavy equipment.
This purpose of this study is to develop content that enables repetitive carving practice of the maxillary right central incisor (MRCI) based on augmented reality (AR). For a step-by-step practice of achieving the tooth shape, after creation of the storyboard from the square box shape in step 1 to the completed MRCI block in step 16, three-dimensional (3D) modeling data reflecting the characteristics of the mesial, distal, lingual, and labial surface of the MRCI were generated. An application was built in which 3D modeling data were output on the screen of the learner's mobile device, and image markers suitable for 3D modeling in steps 1 to 16 of the MRCI model were respectively generated. Using this information, the learner could carve a high-quality MRCI by repeatedly performing the tooth shape carving exercises. With AR, we intend to contribute to improved tooth morphology carving skills by linking the theory and practical techniques for a beginners in dentistry.
Diamond thin films were synthesized by the MPECVD (Microwave Enhanced Chemical Deposition) using the mixture of the hydrogen and organic compounds($CH_3COCH_3$, $CH_3OH$). In X-ray Diffraction, the d values of all the deposits on the Si substrates with the experimental conditions coincide with those of natural diamond in POD (Powder Diffraction Data). The changes of the morphology of all the deposits were examined by SEM. The amount of amorphous carbon or graphite in the diamond films were increased as the acetone concentration was increased. The morphology of the diamond particles can be changed from ball-like to euhedral by adding the small amount of the methanol in the reaction gases of the high acetone concentration.
A series of blends containing ethylene-vinyl alcohol(EVOH) and styrene-maleic anhydride(SMA) copolymers has been produced to study the effect of compatibilization on the crystallization behavior of the dispersed semicrystalline component. The crystallization behavior and the morphology of the blends have been characterized by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM), respectively. Depending on the compatibilization, a part of crystallization of the dispersed phase took place with greater undercooking. Homogeneous crystallization was responsible for the shift of crystallization temperature for those compatibilized blends.

We have made disperse diazo black D(DB-D) ultrathin films using Langmur-Blodgett(LB) and vacuum-evaporation technique. Physical and electrical properties of the films were investigated. Solution was made with a concentration of 10$^{-3}$ mol/$\ell$ using chloroform. Moving wall apparatus (NL-LB140 S-MWC) was employed to make the LB films. X,Y and Z-type LB films were manufactured and studied by UV/visible absorbance spectra and morphology of surface using atomic force microscopy. Vacuum-evaporated DB-D think films were made at a pressure of 10$^{-5}$ torrr. The absorption peaks appear at 200 and 40nm in the LB films and vacuum-deposited films. And we have studied photoluminescence spectrum of the DB-D films. Also TGA and DSC properties of the DB-D have been observed and current -voltage characteristics of the DB-D LB films have been measured along the perpendicular direction.
