The genus Coolia A. Meunier 1919 has a global distribution and is a common member of epiphytic dinoflagellate assemblages in neritic ecosystems. Coolia monotis is the type species of the genus and was the only known species for 76 years. Over the past few decades, molecular characterization has unveiled two species complexes that group morphologically very similar species, so their limits are often unclear. To provide new knowledge on the biogeography and species composition of the genus Coolia, 16 strains were isolated from Bahía de La Paz, Gulf of California. The species were identified by applying morphological and molecular approaches. The morphometric characteristics of all isolated Coolia species were consistent with the original taxa descriptions. Phylogenetic analyses (large subunit [LSU] rDNA D1 / D2 and internal transcribed spacer [ITS] 1 / 5.8S / ITS2) revealed a species assemblage comprising Coolia malayensis, C. palmyrensis, C. tropicalis, and the C. cf. canariensis lineage. This is the first report of Coolia palmyrensis and C. cf. canariensis in Mexico and C. tropicalis in the Gulf of California. Our results strengthen the biogeographical understanding of these potentially harmful epiphytic dinoflagellate species.
Magnetic resonance neurography (MRN) is increasingly used to visualize peripheral nerves in vivo. However, the implementation and interpretation of MRN in the brachial and lumbosacral plexi are challenging because of the anatomical complexity and technical limitations. The purpose of this article was to review the clinical context of MRN, describe advanced magnetic resonance (MR) techniques for plexus imaging, and list the general categories of utility of MRN with pertinent imaging examples. The selection and optimization of MR sequences are centered on the homogeneous suppression of fat and blood vessels while enhancing the visibility of the plexus and its branches. Standard 2D fast spin-echo sequences are essential to assess morphology and signal intensity of nerves. Moreover, nerve-selective 3D isotropic images allow improved visualization of nerves and multiplanar reconstruction along their course. Diffusion-weighted and diffusion-tensor images offer microscopic and functional insights into peripheral nerves. The interpretation of MRN in the brachial and lumbosacral plexi should be based on a thorough understanding of their anatomy and pathophysiology. Anatomical landmarks assist in identifying brachial and lumbosacral plexus components of interest. Thus, understanding the varying patterns of nerve abnormalities facilitates the interpretation of aberrant findings.
Terrestrial cyanobacteria are extremely diverse. In urban areas, they can be found as black stains on the surface of building walls, stone monuments, or man-made structures. Many of the terrestrial cyanobacteria are still understudied. To expand knowledge of terrestrial cyanobacterial diversity, a polyphasic characterization was performed to identify 12 strains isolated from campus of University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan. Multigene phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene and 16S-23S rRNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region showed that the isolated strains formed two independent subclades within Nodosilinea, and were distantly related to all described Nodosilinea species. The 16S-23S rRNA ITS secondary structures showed variations for D1-D1' and Box B domain, while V3 domain was almost identical among entire species of Nodosilinea, including the studied strains. In addition, a unique morphological character, i.e. forming nodule or spiral shape, was also observed in certain studied strains. According to polyphasic characterization, Nodosilinea coculeatus sp. nov. and Nodosilinea terrestrialis sp. nov., were proposed as two new species of terrestrial cyanobacteria from Okinawa.

Lead free $(1-x)(0.675BiFeO_3-0.325BaTiO_3)-xLiTaO_3$ (BFBTLT, x = 0, 0.01, 0.02, and 0.03, with 0.6 mol% $MnO_2$ and 0.4 mol% CuO) were prepared by a solid state reaction method, followed by air quenching and their crystalline phase, morphology, dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties were explored. An X-ray diffraction study indicates that lithium (Li) and tantalum (Ta) were fully incorporated in the BFBT materials with the absence of any secondary phases. Dense ceramic samples (> 92 %) with a wide range of grain sizes from $3.70{\mu}m$ to $1.82{\mu}m$ were obtained in the selected compositions ($0{\leq}x{\leq}0.03$) of BFBTLT system. The maximum temperatures ($T_{max}$) were mostly higher than $420^{\circ}C$ in the studied composition range. The maximum values of maximum polarization ($P_{max}{\approx}31.01{\mu}C/cm^2$), remnant polarization ($P_{rem}{\approx}22.82{\mu}C/cm^2$) and static piezoelectric constant ($d_{33}{\approx}145pC/N$) were obtained at BFBT-0.01LT composition with 0.6 mol% $MnO_2$ and 0.4 mol% CuO. This study demonstrates that the high $T_{max}$ and $d_{33}$ for BFBTLT ceramics are favorable for industrial applications.
The present study was conducted to examine morphological and biological characteristics of 57 strains of Microsporum canis isolated from 110 dogs with dermatophytosis in Taegu, 1999. Isolated strains of M canis were classified into 4 types(A: white-yellow type, B: fluffy type, C: flat type, D: radial groove type) according to their pigmentation and morphology of colonies with typical conidia and hyphae. Some strains of A and B type happened variation by subculture for 6~8 months. The variation strains were classified into 3 types(E, F, G), E type had aberrant macroconidia with typical macroconidia, F type had aberrant hyphae(like dumb-bell) and macroconidia, and G type had no conidia and racket hyphae. All strains showed positive urease test, rice medium growth test and hair perforation test.
The influences of Bi addition on morphological modification of $Mg_2Si$ phase and mechanical properties were investigated in Mg-7%Al-0.5%Si casting alloy. It was found that the addition of 0.3%Bi changed the $Mg_2Si$ morphology from coarse Chinese script type to polygonal type, and significantly decreased the size to ~5 ${\mu}m$ or less with the increase of number density. The modification of $Mg_2Si$ phase by the addition of Bi resulted in the improvement of tensile properties of the Mg-Al-Si alloy at RT and $175^{\circ}C$.

Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) has been applied to observe directly the {{{{ SQRT { 19} }}}}${\times}${{{{ SQRT { 19} }}}} and (1${\times}$1)HT reconstructions and the transition associated step bunching on the GaAs (111)B surfaces under As pressure. Close to the transition point, {{{{ SQRT { 19} }}}}${\times}${{{{ SQRT { 19} }}}}an d (1${\times}$1)HT reconstructions are observed in dark and bright domains by SEM and determined by micro-probe reflection high-energy electron diffraction (${\mu}$-RHEED). The reconstruction diagram shows hyster-esis. The stepped surface morphology during the reconstruction transition was unstable. Heavy step bunching with rough macrostep edges was observed.
In this study, AR (aromatic resin) pitch was employed as the matrix-precursor for carbon/carbon composite because it exhibits much higher coke yield than coal tar pitch. As a result, a fabrication process of carbon/carbon composites can be shortened. It has been known that the pitches may cause swolling problem during the carbonization process. In order to restrain the swelling occurrence, a small quantity of carbon black was added to the AR pitch. Due to addition of carbon black the swelling was decreased largely and the perform can be infiltrated with the AR pitch. The densification efficiency of the performs was compared with various matrix-precursors. The coke yield of matrixprecursors, the morphology and the degree of graphitization of carbon matrix were analyzed.

This study proposes technology using Active Shape Model to track the object separating it by depth-sensors. Unlike the common visual camera, the depth-sensor is not affected by the intensity of illumination, and therefore a more robust object can be extracted. The proposed algorithm removes the horizontal component from the information of the initial depth map and separates the object using the vertical component. In addition, it is also a more efficient morphology, and labeling to perform image correction and object extraction. By applying Active Shape Model to the information of an extracted object, it can track the object more robustly. Active Shape Model has a robust feature-to-object occlusion phenomenon. In comparison to visual camera-based object tracking algorithms, the proposed technology, using the existing depth of the sensor, is more efficient and robust at object tracking. Experimental results, show that the proposed ASM-based algorithm using depth sensor can robustly track objects in real-time.

Citrate is mainly produced from fungi and oxygen transfer has been known as one of the important factors in citric acid production. A bubble column bioreactor was used for citrate production after pellet was initially made using a stirred bioreactor for the inoculation. The relationship between the pellet size of Aspergillus niger and the oxygen transfer was elucidated by considering morphological characteristics of the pellet. The pellet size was determined by adjusting the impeller speed in the stirred bioreactor and the optimum diameter of the pellet was observed to be 2.2 mm under the experimental conditions. Pellet was maintained quite stable in the bubble column bioreactor and production of citric acid was significantly improved by maintaining optimal pellet conditions in the bubble column bioreactor.
