Due to the rapid growth of ship building industry and the increment of ship construction in Korea, several hundred thousand of lifting lugs per year, have been installed at the lifting positions of ship block and removed after finishing their function, therefore. appropriate design system for the strength check or the optimal design of each lug structure has been required in order to increase the capability of efficient design. In this study, the design system of D-type lifting lug structure which is most popular and useful in shipyards, was developed for the purpose of initial design of lug structure. Developed system layout and graphic user interface for this design system based on the $C^{++}$ language were explained step by step. Through the illustration of one example of D-type lug designs, the efficiency of this design system was proved. Therefore, more efficient performance of practical lug structural design will be expected on the windows of personal computer using this design system.

The maximum work capacity at various shoulder angles was estimated in terms of joint moment through maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) measurement, and the result was compared to workload computed from 3-D static lifting model (3DSSPP) based upon national institute of safety and health (NIOSH) lifting guideline (1991). The electromyography (EMG) of anterior/posterior deltoid and trapezius muscle was also recorded to study the function of individual muscle during asymmetric shoulder lifting. Psychophysical workload was measured to observe the difference from MVC or biomechanical estimation. An apparatus was constructed for the study and twenty five trials including five flexion angles and five add/abduction angles were performed isometrically. Results indicated that MVC at 30 degree of flexion was the strongest whereas MVC at 120 degree was the weakest. In case of add/abduction, MVC decreased to 77 to 89 % during add/abduction compared to the MVC at neutral position. Regarding the normalized EMG value, a substantial increase was observed at 30 and 60 degree abduction. More importantly, the shoulder moment computed from maximum permissible limit (MPL) was greater than the moment at MVC condition during 30 degree adduction. Current result can be used as a reference information for a safe workplace design to prevent the shoulder from an excessive work load in industry.
A comprehensive extension of functions and efficiency of the software system, DS/Block, developed earlier for the purpose of simulation of the motion of a ship block during lifting and turnover operation. A viewpoint change used in 3D-CAD is utilized and saves the time for displays of a series of configurations for the motion. The Euler parameters are adopted to convert 3 rotational degrees of freedom about global coordinate system to those about local coordinate system defined in Pro/ENGINEER. DS/Block provides FEM input data for stress and strain analyses. Several functions are incorporated for user-friendliness. DS/Block is to be tested and installed in a shipyard.
Heavy structures such as large roof structures and superbeams were lifted using hydraulic jacks. Moreover, member verticality and horizontality checks were performed at every construction stage to monitor the measuring tapes for their structural safety, using CCTV. When the relative displacement exceeded the predetermined limit, the hydraulic systems were terminated. After adjusting the relative displacement manually, lifting was resumed. The accuracy of the relative displacement was found not to be reliable, however, due to eye check using CCTV, and it took a long time due to manual adjustment. Moreover, real-time monitoring was impossible. To address these problems, the monitoring-evaluation system for the stable lifting of heavy structures was proposed, using the total station of the automatic-target-recognition type, laser-distance-measuring devices, a data logger, a strain gauge, and others. After developing a program for the operation of the system and for the acquisition of data, a mock-up test was conducted in a large-scale structural laboratory to evaluate the accuracy and applicability of the system. The stable acquisition and applicability of data was confirmed in the test.

Instant face lifting cosmetics contain various film forming agents for stretching the wrinkles on the skin surface. But, most of the film-forming polymers have sticky feels. And they are easily scrubbed out when skin is rubbed on. In this study, we focused on the influence of sodium silicate that has rapid film forming effect on skin surface and immediate wrinkle reducing effect. Sodium silicate, also known as water glass or soluble glass, is a compound containing sodium oxide and silica. Sodium silicate is a white powder that is readily soluble in water, producing an alkaline solution. Sodium silicate is stable in neutral and alkaline solutions. The sodium silicate solution hardens by drying in air and rapidly forms a thin film. When the solution is applied to the skin, the fine membrane coating is formed by water evaporation and ionic bond re-formation. It also makes the strong siloxane (Si-O) bonding on the skin surface. When these fixation properties are applied to cosmetics, they can give remarkable skin tightening effect. The sodium silicate solution can provide the lifting effect by forming a film on skin at a proper concentration. But, skin irritation may be caused with too high concentration of sodium silicate. We studied a desirable range of the sodium silicate concentration and combination with other fixatives for skin care formulation that has no sticky feels and no scrubbing out phenomenon. Immediate lifting gel was developed by using sodium silicate and various thickening systems. Among of the various thickeners, aluminum magnesium silicate showed the best compatibility with sodium silicate for rapid lifting effect. This instant physical lifting gel was confirmed as a low stimulating formula by skin clinical test.

In this paper, we proposed an optimal design for determining the shape of a lifting lug freely by applying a multivariate function to the D-type lug, which is commonly used in shipyards. We derived the optimal aspect ratio of the lug through structural analysis and analyzed the safety and behavior of the lug aspect ratio. As a result, two types of final candidates, both lighter than the existing lug weight, were suitable for the ratio. They were found to have the greatest force at an angle of 45 degrees when a load of 100 tons was imposed. When the horizontal and vertical feature ratio of the lug was 1:3, it showed excellent results in terms of safety rates while maintaining weight reduction and functional aspects.
The aim of this study was to investigate the wearing acceptability of chemical protective clothing during fires and to provide basic data for the safety of firefighters. The results of the study were as follows: Wearer acceptabilities of chemical protective clothing under static movement (e.g., looking at the ceiling with maximum head bending, wrapping one's arms around oneself, sitting obliquely on the floor, and maintaining a crouching position) were 21.7%-47.8% lower than those of general uniforms. When wearing chemical protective suits, the acceptability under static movement was statistically low (p < .001). Wearer acceptabilities of chemical protective clothing under dynamic movement (e.g., running, lifting a heavy object (20 kg) up to the waist, lifting and moving a heavy object (20 kg) by 1 m, lifting a stretcher and walking forward, and lifting a stretcher and walking backward) were 19.2%-47.8% lower than those of general uniforms. When wearing chemical protective suits, the acceptability under dynamic movement was also statistically low (p < .001).
This paper focuses on lossy medical image compression methods for medical images that operate on three-dimensional(3-D) irreversible integer wavelet transform. We offer an application of unbalanced tree structure algorithm to medical images, using a 3-D unbalanced wavelet decomposition and a 3-D unbalanced spatial dependence tree. The wavelet decomposition is accomplished with integer wavelet filters implemented with the lifting method. We have tested our encoder on volumetric medical images using different integer filters and coding unit sizes. The coding unit sizes of 16 slices save considerable dynamic memory(RAM) and coding delay from full sequence coding units used in previous works. If we allow the formation of trees of different lengths, then we can accomodate more transaxial scales than three. The encoder and decoder can then keep track of the length of the tree in which each pixel resides through the sequence of decompositions. Results show that, even with these small coding units, our algorithm with certain filters performs as well and better in lossy coding than previous coding systems using 3-D integer unbalanced wavelet transforms on volumetric medical images.

This paper presents d new algorithm to compute the offlet curve of a given planar parametric curve. We reduce the problem of computing an offset curve to that of intersecting a surface to a paraboloid. Given an input curve C(t)=(x(t), y(t))∈R², the corresponding surface D/sub c(t)/ is constructed symbolically as the envelope surface of a one-parameter family of tangent planes of the paraboloid Q:z=x²+y²along a lifted curve C(t)=(x(t), y(t), x(t)²+y(t)²∈Q. Given an offset distance d∈R, the offset curve C/sub d/(t) is obtained by the projection of the intersection curve of D/sub c(t)/ and a paraboloid Q:z=x²+y²-d² into the xy-plane.

In this paper, efficient digit-serial VLSI architecture for 1D (9,7) lifting-based discrete wavelet transform (DWT) filter has been proposed. The proposed architecture computes the DWT in digit basis, so that the required hardware is reduced. Also, the multiplication is replaced with the shift and add operation to minimize the hardware requirement. Bit allocation for input, output, and the internal data has been determined by analyzing the PSNR. We have carefully designed the data feedback latency not to degrade the performance in the recursive folded scheduling. The proposed digit-serial architecture requires small amount of hardware but achieve 100% of hardware utilization, so we try to optimize the tradeoffs between the hardware cost and the performance. The proposed architecture has been designed and verified by VerilogHDL and synthesized by Synopsys Design Compiler with a DongbuHitek $0.18{\mu}m$ STD cell library. The maximum operating frequency is 330MHz with 3,770 gates in equivalent two input NAND gates.
